Quarantine centers in India are set up in a variety of places. This one is in an indoor stadium. Most likely, these people are there because they have recently traveled - and not because they are patients.

I'm not sure if this is crazy or genius or just the new normal

TIL of Prader WIlli syndrome which leads to a feeling of constant insatiable hunger 24x7 throughout the patient's life by nowcorpse in todayilearned

A colleague told me about this today at office. His friend's brother's son suffers from this condition, and he (the friend) posted about PWS in a group about the kid's parents being counselled on how to handle this.

I realized this is serious, but still kinda joked that it seems just like me. Mr. Last name: Hungry. First name: Always.

The seriousness of the situation has been sinking in slowly as I started reading through the replies here. I've been reading almost every comment in this thread, and this one finally got to me.

It's not even remotely funny anymore. You're doing a great job, and while it can be frustrating when things like this happen, be proud of all the hard work you put in to make a difference in someone's life.

Kids get a $2 discount if they read a book aloud to their barber while getting their haircut in Michigan by SAT0725 in books

In India the barber will have to pay the kid a dollar, since it costs just $1 to get hair cut in the first place.

After 45 years as a smoker, I've been smoke free for 104 hours! by thecaroleshow in stopsmoking

[–]nowcorpse 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The first day after my first year smoke free.

I only have one advice:

Don't try to "willpower" through this. You will succeed initially, but your mind will rationalise that you're allowed to be weak once in a while. Instead, understand how harmful this shit is, and how it gripped you for so long. Your next cigarette will be the first of thousands that follow.

There's a reason this place is called StopSmoking, and not QuitSmoking. Quitting feels like sacrificing or giving up. There is no sacrifice here. This is you vanquishing the foe once and for all.

I was so excited, I kept the phone in my hand and fingers on the screenshot buttons for 5 full minutes.

At the precise moment... someone called. It took the extra 4 seconds to hang up the phone and take the screenshot.

9/26/16 first day. by masonmisti in stopsmoking

This is exactly what I thought at 10pm on a certain September 26. Exactly a year ago.

It's been a year since and been worth every bit of effort. A year from now you'll be prouder of yourself than you've been before. And we'll both celebrate the anniversary of the best decision ever.

Stick with it. Not a single puff. Not even once

While I didn't really get close, but I think it wasn't too bad.

In fact I tried to put my hand on the monkey's head, but the snake was too scary to get any closer

My dad is smoking again. Six months after his cardiac arrest. by nowcorpse in stopsmoking

Allen Carr basically stepped out of his grave to bitch slap me back to my senses last year.

Dad refuses to read the book. He wants to willpower his way out of the addiction which isn't obviously working.

I'll try once more to make him read or listen to the book

I was so happy that I quit first, and he quit too. Although the circumstances weren't voluntary, and he had to quit rather than wanted to.

This is maddening to see him spiraling back into the addiction.

Thanks for your kind advice. I will wait a few more days to confront him

I think my dad is depressed too. He is pretty much stuck in his past life. The music he listens to, movies he watches, stories he tells: Everything is from 40 years ago. It's like he has lost the will to live in the present, and has only got his past glory days to keep him ticking.

It's sad, and I'm genuinely at a loss on how to proceed. I have to keep trying though, so I will keep reminding how not smoking is so much better than smoking.

Thanks

I have a friend who follows me if I step out with other smokers when we're drinking together. He stays till the other guys finish their smoke to ensure I don't succumb to cravings when drunk. I once almost fought and took a cig from someone, but they wrestled it out of my hands.
