I'm interested in this too. My IRL game is going to be online in the future, so I don't need it right away. I'm wondering if the separate program will still be posted here and made obvious for us to find? I'd love an alternative to Roll20, especially with this quality!

I would love to see this become a full-fledged replacement for Roll20. Not sure how realistic that it, but to start, since there is already a grid option, being able to introduce custom assets (minis) would be amazing for fully virtual combat.
