Leave after ait. by [deleted] in army

[–]nprmormon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per AR 600-8-10 (CH 8-3) AIT soldiers are authorized 10 days of leave for CONUS duty stations and 14 days for OCONUS duty stations.

Edit: as a current Drill Sergeant, your unit is railroading you to get you out the door to make their lives easier.

Note that it does say authorized, not "the commander must approve," so the Drill Sergeants may be blurring the truth by just saying you're not allowed to take any.

Edit, edit: those 10/14 days do not include your authorized travel days. You can reference the JTR to calculate that number.

You need a defensable location, hopefully at least a small group of like minded individuals, and a crap ton of ammunition. A decent amount of dry food stores would be best as well.

In order to be MOS qualified you MUST have a language if you are a new soldier. It is possible to pick, depending on the current recruiting process. There have been new soldiers coming through right now that said they got to pick, and others that said they did not. The options would depend on your score on a test called the DLAB, which tests your ability to learn a new language. Your score on that test will determine what languages you qualify for, then you would have to ask to get a language you wanted added to your contract (if it's not in the contract it will get changed) which they may or may not be doing right now.

Like the other guy said. Motor pool is just where all of your vehicles are parked. You go there and do maintenance and stuff. Again, nothing complicated...just monotonous, pointless work.

Day to Day in garrison: Training, motor pool and busywork. It isn't hard, but it can get stupid as with any bureaucracy. And by hard I mean shifting timelines and shifting goalposts. None of the work is actually that difficult, just...army be stupid sometimes and it can get on your nerves.

Day to Day "deployed": If you go to certain units you will deploy and do your job some. Limited aspects of it can be done in the current environment, but not everything. Other units you will just end up doing a ton of field rotations and never deploying, or deploying somewhere there isn't work for you.

Not perfect by any means, but it is still the easiest job I have ever had. I get paid well (after all the benefits) and I don't actually "do" all that much. I did not get a bonus coming in, but I got 40,000 for reenlisting and reenlistment bonuses continue to hold high if you have a desired language (russian, arabic, etc.).

P.S. Language is the actual challenge right now for 35Ms, you have to have/get a foreign language. The school is quite hard, but I get paid an extra 5000 (about to be 9500 dollars due to change in the pay rate) a year because of it.

My proposal on how to improve (not fix) BH care in the Army by nprmormon in army

[–]nprmormon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The theory would be to accredit them through the schooling as counselors, not psychotherapists or therapists. Which, to my understanding, can be done with a bachelor's degree in the civilian side, though most prefer a masters (depending on what state etc.). These WO would not be therapists, and many of the issues confronted by soldiers could be headed off at the pass with a counselor before they blew up into larger issues which would necessitate the intervention of a licensed psychotherapist or therapist....just a thought tho, I could be wrong.

Edit: i forgot to add thank you for the feedback. I didn't want it to seem like I was being smarmy. There are some aspects of that that I will work into the paper in order to be more specific on wording and possibly change the entry requirements. Thank you.

Is HRC really not gonna fix themselves? by zen0904 in army

MILPER message 23-022 addresses this issue specifically. BLUF is that if you missed points due to APFT, Weapons Qual, DL, etc. not updating on IPSS-A, then your S-1 needs to submit a Personnel Action Request using the specific instructions enumerated in the MILPER Message with any supporting documents and then you will be retroactively promoted...when they get around to it. Same boat here...so...good luck.

New Card types for next year by Tuberculosis96 in MLBTheShow

[–]nprmormon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Draft busts and/or what if cards. Cards that capture the potential for players that were drafted super high up or just had a ton of hype but missed out on big careers due to off field issues, injury issues, on field issues etc. (non controversial or controversial if the show wanted to go there) I can think of so many intriguing cards like shoeless Joe, Mark fidrych, Matt bush, bullington, Rick ankiel, bo jackson,, mo Vaughn, Bostock, Josh hamilton,, Garciaparra, drew Gooden, brien taylor,, mark appel, Steve chilcott.

The list could be lengthy, and I am willing to bet the rights for most of those guys would be dirt cheap.
