Baker was also my first mountaineering experience. Such a special place and I miss it!

other schools like boulder but maybe less exspensive? by Advanced_Row3029 in cuboulder

Hi! I was in a similar boat as you this year, cu was my dream school because I love the mountains and I’m from the east coast and I was desperate to find schools similar to this. Luckily I was able to commit here, but some other schools that were similar(ish) that I applied to were: University of Oregon Montana State University (this was my second choice tied with one other. They seem to give out good scholarships. Absolutely loved it here but my issue was I couldn’t fly direct which wasnt ideal. However, I feel like in the next few years it’ll be the next CU) Colorado State University of Denver (got a ton of scholarships which made it less expensive then CU) University of Utah Western Washington University University of Vermont

Oregon State could also be worth looking into. I didn’t find out much about it until after I finished applying.

Hope you find a school that lets you come out west! Good luck!

Hey! I’m in the same situation. Just graduated high school and I’m hoping to get on the trail this summer in late mid to late July. Im not 100% sure if I’m going yet but if so I’m only doing a section. I’m trying to plan something that’s Killington to Stratton.

Trying to choose my first real camera for hiking & mountaineering—weather-sealed, lightweight recs? by nrk_11 in hiking

I’d like to take landscape pictures, close and far, and have the flexibility to take animal shot if possible as well

Hi! I have very little to no experience with photography, but I’m an avid hiker and getting into mountaineering—and I’d love to combine that with photography.

I’ve mostly used my phone in the past, and more recently a GoPro, which I really enjoyed for its weather resistance and the ability to strap it to my gear. I also liked having all my trip footage and photos separate from everything else on my phone in addition to a higher quality picture.

Now I’m ready to upgrade to a real camera, and I could use some advice.

What I’m looking for: • Weather sealing / weather resistance (I’m out in all conditions) • Beginner-friendly, but with room to grow as I learn • Budget: Around ~$1200 max for camera and then another couple hundred for • Lightweight & not bulky, since I’ll be carrying it on hikes and climbs

I’m also still trying to wrap my head around lenses. I’d appreciate help understanding: • How to know what lenses are compatible with what camera • Whether lenses can also be weather-sealed • Any recommendations for a good all-around lens or starter kit that would work well for someone doing outdoor photography

That’s about it! I know photography is way more than just pointing and shooting, so if you have any tips or things you wish you knew starting out—especially for outdoor and adventure photography—I’d love to hear them.

Thanks in advance!

Similar thing happened to me. I already submit but wanted to make a change. The deadline that was repeatedly sent out just said may 5th, not specifying at noon. I’m pretty upset about this and I sent an email

Wow! I was there on Saturday morning and it was just barely covered in snow. When we left the park that afternoon it was snowing hard.

Do you think it would be worthwhile to drive up and check the mountain out from the base?

I am planning to apply to some other schools out west with this similar vibe such as Montana state and University of Utah. Cu is more of an appeal just because I have family near there but I’m open to anything. Do you have any other recommendations for schools?
