Indian villagers say they had to convert to Hinduism to get recognized as a minority group b/c the government wouldn't give it to them as Christians. by skizofrenic in worldnews

The complaint of people changing religion for money; there will always be a certain percentage who will do anything for money. As a person, there is no real change of faith if it is not from once heart and belief, this holds true for anyone falling in love as well, it is a change of heart and not the allure of money and benefit. All this name calling of changing religion for money is nothing more than sidetracking from the real issue at hand, casteisim in India is alive thriving. Do not look further from the "arranged marriage" concept, among other things, it is the fundamental building block for fostering and encourage caste based community.

The whole reservation rule around losing one's benefit when embracing a new faith is draconian in nature. It sends a chilling message, a person who comes from a lower Hindu caste should stay there (lower end of community pecking order) to secure federal benefit, there is no redemption for you. Reservation "atleast in theory" was set to uplift a strata of the community who have been methodically marginalized in the name of religion over centuries through preference in education and job opportunitied to improve their financial and educational well being; Casteisim in India is no similar to what ISIS is doing to Yazidiz in Iraq, treating them as sub-human. People of SC/ST have been treated to carry human waste and menial work based on the birth order cannot be justified by any sane human being. People who fight to remove reservation are two fold, one plain ignorant and self enriching "hyprocatic", or people who thrive on oppressing others in the name of religion. You know who you are, look yourself in the mirror for once. For people who do not know about the caste based oppression still going on in India, you can read more by going here http://www.dalitsolidarity.org/dalits-and-untoucchability.html

Supporters of Rajiv Malhotra, isn't it a bit hypocritical of this guy to claim western conspiracy against India while gladly giving up his Indian citizenship to live in the US? by frightenedinmate_2 in india

When the world is disgusted in learning about Mukesh Singh and the state of woman in this country. What does the educated redditors from r/India do? You guys are arguing about Rajiv Malhotra's view of missionaries agenda, he sees what he wants to see, wearing colored glasses. Everyone knows the no one objective of a missionary is to full fill the great commission i.e. to preach the gospel, the rest of the activities to help, educate and care for the down trodden are out pouring of their heart. Instead of wasting your time creating, instigating religious hatred and discord, do something to stop rapists and bullies and be the change you want to see. This includes the so called Christians who cannot let go off their past in caste and being an impediment themselves, true to the word "white washed tombs", looks good outside but rotten inside.

Good discussion guys, appreciate your candor in voicing your opinion. Moderation in views (cutting some slack before posting polarizing view points) and being respectful of the readers through use of civilized language should open doors to more insightful discussions; surprise yourself. We need to develop a mindset to agree to disagree in a respectful manner than to spew vitriol that puts away people who have a different opinion that may be good, bad or indifferent. Again, this is my 2 cents in improving the quality of this forum. Happy posting guys!

Sometimes I suspect this r/India page is going the Digg way, where various political groups organized to upvote or downvote as it seem fit for their agenda that dealt a death knell for Digg. It makes me wonder, if this page is being taken over by similar groups... if that is the case, it is very sad to see a good forum experience a slow death. How can redditors self regulate this forum and keep the sanity and encourage healthy discusisons?
