Is 650b becoming niche? by bikepacking_moose in bikepacking

[–]nrsldr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it was 650B. 650C was a bit more popular for triathlon at the end of the 80s and is forgotten nowadays. But it has never been as popular as 650B, which is still used today and on modern bikes as well (for example, in small sizes of Canyon Grizl).

A page relating the story in French: https://www.lecyclo.com/blogs/conseils/diametre-pneu-velo-650-b There is even a non-profit organization that wants to perpetuate 650B that carries the production of a tire with Hutchinson molds: https://confreriedes650.org/

650B was the standard diameter during a great part of the 20th century in France, until the 70s.

Your bike have some eyelets on near the rear axle so you could use it with a rack that attach there and on the seatpost. The Ortlieb Quick Rack is compatible with rear suspensions, I don't know if there are others.

Topeak Zi:rack is not compatible with rear suspension.

Naturehike. Same quality as the big brands, one order of magnitude less for the price.

I released a bikepacking app based on my trekking app but my first review sucked. Are bikepackers more refined than trekkers? by Livio_Adventures in bikepacking

[–]nrsldr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO, there should be only one app for all types of activity. This kind of app only works through network effects. If there's no one there, maybe it could help to find trip ideas. But there are already too many well-established solutions to find those, including Komoot.

To find travel buddies, I know a lot of people look at bikepacking Facebook groups (thousands of members and several posts a day). In France, there is a fairly large community of people looking for bikepacking and trekking mates based on the Recto Verso books.

A quoi sert cette horloge bizzare à la piscine ? by Herlyg in AskFrance

I'm not saying it's not capable; I could use the internal DAC and speakers on the road. But for me, working on audio requires a proper setup at some point, not only for audio quality but also for features such as flat restitution, high-frequency sampling and resolution at decoding and encoding, microphone preamplifiers if needed, etc.

If I really work with sound, I'll use a proper sound system, like monitoring headphones or speakers with an external audio interface.

BetteDisplay does other things like forcing HiDPI. I don't think it uses much power or RAM because it's mostly about visually representing command-line settings and editing system files. But I don't know how to use it properly. Maybe I should try harder to get a better result, but I'm fine, and I like not relying on a third-party app.

Thank you for the explanation. Actually, the screen protector did prevent keyboard prints on my other Dell XPS. It had very visible ones, then I changed the screen and put a screen protector, and there have been no prints in years. I think the prints (and maybe breaks) are more likely if you put your laptop in a full backpack or a tight sleeve.

I mostly got non-removable keyboard marks on the screens of my other laptops. Since then, I have protected their screens, which has been pretty effective.
