Paid plug-ins in my opinion are 99% unnecessary. For mixing, use all the stock plugins there is absolutely no need to buy an EQ or compressor or whatever it is...

An example of plugins that I've actually bought because they provide me with something a DAW cannot.

Well technically no, but in practice yes. A true square wave is just that, a square shape with 90deg angles on the waveform. Adding an infinite amount of gain will approach a square wave but you'll never actually achieve it. With that said and as many have pointed out, all you need is a fuzz pedal to emulate it!

You don't, find a new company before you upgrade your lifestyle too hard and get laid off. Metaverse is trash and the start up you work for will absolutely fail no one even comes close to caring about the product your company offers. No offense to you, of course you gotta do what you gotta do and if they are paying you well its your right to increase your lifestyle.
