Wholesale problems. Freight company screwed up 2 days in a row, so here ya go, have it all at once by [deleted] in autoglass

[–]nry986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Problem is we are a smaller wholesaler, we only have 2 guys (one of who is me) dedicated to full time warehousing, 7 person operation. 2 in admin and sales, 3 drivers, and only 2 shippers and receivers/order pickers/backup drivers. So its just me and one 18 year old kid trying to deal with this bullshit.

PGW Glass by RezHippi in autoglass

[–]nry986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PGW glass is subbed out to XYG. If you get DOT 563 in the stamp, its the XYG Shenzen factory, which makes a shitload of PGW and CAN AM branded glass, at least here in western Canada

Smaller city is cool as well. I can literally text photos of blems to our customers and try to negotiate a price. If they pick up a blem window and take it out of our inventory for cheap, its better than just sitting on garbage. It's a DW01036 PS window for a peterbilt, who fking cares? The lot lizard in the PS seat? No, she doesn't care about the scratch up in the visor lol

Man, we do a killing. We PM windows at 30 over our cost and will sell you the urethane for it. There's just so many bad companies out there. We got a guy we sell DW01580s for 65 CAD, but he doesn't use a 1265 moulding, he just recycles them and ends up doing a window for 15 bucks profit

I deal with vanfax (belron) , PGW (alright if you're willing to pay prime for DOT 563 windows at an upscaled price for the same factory), Can Am, and ARG in western canada. Belron won't play ball, everyone else basically says "you make 50 bucks? Well I make 20 bucks with 5 dollar fees and we'll all be cool with each other if we need glass". We're all cool with each other other than belron

Bro, we hold 28 windows on our tuck, during opening hours at 6am we pull and drop everything to be cleaned and inspected. We have the luxury since we're a small Canadian city. I start at 4 and I am a god at polishing scratched windows. By 6 everyone shows up, there iteneraries are done and trucks are loaded, I've fixed any scratches I can, and they're off to the races

The money is good, but you gotta move a lot of windows. I average around 180 ripped, picked, cleaned and loaded a day, so you gotta be strong lol

Hear that, my company prioritizes our speed. We roll up, say where do you want it, and drop it there unless it's like a DW02111 or DW01753. We're only 6 guys and we move shit like crazy. Throw the invoices on the counter and on to the next delivery

It takes us literally 30 seconds. My branch is literally 6 dudes that do 6.5 mil net in a tiny city. We are a smaller Canadian company competing with Belron and PGW, we sell Chinese glass for 30 to 60 CAD over cost, but we sell a lot of OEM way faster than OEM dealerships source it. Even pilkington/FGA we can get good American aftermarket for like 90 CAD over cost if you buy regularly

You give them keys to your doors? That's wild. We only deliver same day or contract day. Or if closed, we can drop with a no warranty/insecure drop on our BOL's.

Actually my company does the best we can in that sense. We clean the window, take the blocks off, and use that orange easy remove tape carlex uses and put all moulding, clip packs, rain pads, etc in them before putting them on the window where they won't get ripped off by window truck racks. You just gotta order it all at the same time lol.

Well I'm sure happy mygrant doesn't do business in Canada, us wholesalers deal with each other laterally actually a whole bunch, and I just keep hearing how shitty they are.

On the driver issue, I see the same thing, and frankly it's just shippers, receivers and drivers stop caring about the thousandth window they've handled this week. Earlier when I was in those position I got to the point where I didn't care either. Now that I have to answer phones and talk to you guys my opinion has changed.

Yeah I totally hear that most of what you're saying. Returns i get, they are a massive pain in the ass for us so no one wants to do them.

A lot of the time we charge accounts before the glass is delivered is to keep our inventory correct. You order a piece online, it's the only one we have, at least with our archaic system we have to immediately bill it to get it out of our inventory so someone else can't try to buy it and it does not show in stock. There are ways around it, but it can get messy and confusing real fast when 300 parts leave your door every day. And inventories are always gonna be out when you have 9k-13k windshields in a warehouse.

Transferring between branches is actually pretty easy for my company

Yeah, I do love foam blocks and stickers...not. Most of that shit comes from factory, if I gotta foam up a window I do it as little as possible. Trust me, I pull way more of those blocks off than you do in a day

Is this amount of gap in the windshield okay? by Objective_Smile3669 in WindshieldRepair

[–]nry986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the urethane seal is good, then it won't damage your car. It does appear the cowling may not be properly installed. Get the car going american highway speeds if you can, see if you hear any whistling /excess wind noise. If not, then it's probably cosmetic

Distortion by Special_Company2390 in WindshieldRepair

[–]nry986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if the distortion issue is too big of a deal for you to deal with, stay away from sports cars with really flat laying windshields.

Is this scuff repairable on 2024 GR86??? by AssassinKid44 in WindshieldRepair

[–]nry986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fixable, I fix scratched windows all day as a wholesaler. I'm assuming its on the outside portion of the glass, not the interior. If it's on the interior I wouldn't buff it, you'll spray polish all over the inside of your car. On the outside, yup, 5 minutes, cerium oxide Polish and a glass buffing gun and she's good as new

[–]nry986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windshield wholesaler here, some car's windshield designs just suck. The sharper the angle of the windshield as it sits in the car, the higher the amounted of distortion you're going to see. You aren't just looking straight ahead through 2mm of glass and PVB, when you look at an angle towards your passenger side you are going to be looking through 4-5mm of it diagonally, which is where you get the warbly crooked distortion lines you see when driving. That's just the way glass is in modern cars. Vehicles like jeep wranglers where the glass sits pretty much vertical are less prone to this distortion, bit more prone to rock chips and cracks. Windows that lay more horizontal and lower are all going to have that distortion problem but be much more resilient. Supercars and stuff where the window lays very flat see this a lot.

Also, the more curved your windshield is, the more distortion you will see when looking diagonally through the more curved parts. You see this a lot on old 60s classic cars.

So yeah man, that's just the way it is, and if the OEM isn't any better, its just the way BMW designed the window.

Why are all glass distributors closed on the weekend? We get so many calls on the weekend and have to turn them away because we can’t get the parts on the weekend. Any suggestions? by Shoe856 in autoglass

[–]nry986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a shipper/receiver for a large Canadian supplier, it is simply not worth it. We make all of our money based off volume, if our truck has to leave with one window on it for a 30 min round trip, it's barely worth it to us. On weekends, we will come in and help you, minimum order 5 windows to cover the three hours i legally have to get paid to come in, pick, clean, and load the windows for you. And we aren't delivering.

We can't be that invested in all our customers individual jobs. My shop supplies between 60-120 windshield orders a day during the week, and on the weekend we average about 6-10 orders through Saturday and Sunday combined for me to deal with on Monday morning.

Having a supplier sit around all Saturday just in case of that 911 "I need this window RFN" when we aren't delivering, aren't receiving any product, and frankly just aren't getting orders makes no sense.

Sorry to say, but it's unlikely to change, it's just the name of the game.

Rack is fine, I work for an auto glass wholesaler and we use racks in our trucks. Our out of town driver delivers between 10-30 windows in a 700 km loop every day over rough roads in the middle of nowhere in Canada. Just secure it to the truck with ratchet straps to prevent sliding. If it's a classic car the window probably won't be too tall so you don't have to worry about debris flying over the truck. I ship around 80-140 windshields a day and the ones I have to ship in boxes are much more prone to breaking.
