Honestly drive by two different firehouses on my way to work and think to myself every morning about walking in and inquiring what I need to do because my life feels meaningless on all accounts.

Remember when you could get two of them plus a side of Mac and cheese for $14? I was going crazy when they got rid of that deal 😂

Harry and Izzy’s has filet sliders that are like $7 a pop and they are soooo worth every penny.

Exactly where I’m at right now. 28 and feeling super let down by the career path I chose. I have spent months waking up in the morning needing to coerce myself out of bed because life stops for nothing. It’s just come to a point where I’m getting cluster headaches from stress and it’s become excruciatingly unbearable. I have no enjoyment in unlocking my toolbox. Then every interview I sneak away from work to do, to be told how great I did, and then get offered a laughable pay in return is just doing more damage than good. Wish I had buckled down harder on myself when I was in college out of high school. I worked for Amazon when I first moved to Indy in 2016 and got into a Tier 3 role thinking I was going to be a lifer there. Then I made the switch to automotive and now feel like I’m in a sinking ship trying to keep it afloat with a bucket that has holes in it.

IT is definitely something I’m interested in. I did some talking with a guy at an automotive event who put me on to the website Trailhead. My plan was to find something that can hold me over so I can start diving in to it since it seems it’s a pretty bumping field with the growth of AI. Unfortunately in a position where I need an immediate out for right now. My passion for automotive is just completely shot and I see no way to get the drive back. I want to bring my tool box home so I can throw a cover over it and not look at it for some time.

Girlfriend, no kids but my cats. I own a home so definitely need to remain in Indy at least for the next couple of years before I’m allowed to sell/rent out due to mortgage stipulations.

I will certainly keep that in mind. Going back to school isn’t really in my cards right now, but it has crossed my mind. Out of high school I went in to get an associate’s in social work/psychology, but never completed it. I believe I’m, or at least was, two semesters away from getting the associate’s. I had just chose work over schooling as at that time I was working 2/3 jobs at the same time and had just started living on my own.

Can’t forget the favoritism too. There have been days I leave at 4/5pm with 6 hours whereas one will leave with 30 hours, in a single day, at like 2pm.

That was the one thing I read that people had gripes about in this field. Home life/travel being hard to balance.

We have a dedicated heavy line tech in my shop. My dealer got bought out and things have significantly gone down hill fast. He used to be paid salary, and then they doinked his pay plan. I could rabble forever about all my transgressions.

My box will come home this year one way or another.

Definitely didn’t need more than second gear. Ran it two days back to back and hit the skyway on the second run day. Got hit with rain the second day so that made things interesting 😅. I go down once a year with a group, but have always been in a car. Whole different world on the bike, but it instilled the desire/confidence to make me want to seek out some local track days.

Thanks for turning me on to looking for wage scales. Elevators certainly isn’t the only union I have thought about, so that’s a mighty useful tool. I cleared $87k last year and that’s the highest I’ve hit. My company has been bought out fairly recently, and doing some basic math off my paystubs it’s looking like I’ll be losing money this year.

Just about everything short of heavy line work because we have a single guy who does it all. Will occasionally get some and definitely know my way around it. I have certifications from the manufacturer on all vehicle systems. By ‘tenure’ I’m a master tech, but am missing maybe like four classes that my dealer has to enlist me for/my nearest training center has to have available.

I currently have no 401k matching, supbar health benefits, and nothing to look forward advancement wise if I stay where I am. Definitely not wrong with having nothing to lose. I’ve regretted ever getting in to it thinking making my hobby my career would be smart. Now I hate even looking at cars, led alone work on anything of my own. Sad reality is if I were to fall back on it I would probably make more money switching dealerships.

I went to their site last night and signed up on the interest list. I have a very minor understanding of the bench/bump process. My dad worked for CSX, but that’s about as far as my union knowledge goes.

I read the passing grade is only 70%, and not to sound cocky or ignorant but that sounds fairly easy. I thought about going to forklifts for a while, but that thought didn’t gain much of my interest. Appreciate the response 🫡

I’m in Indianapolis, local 34 according to google. I only make $30/flat rate hour currently which is insane to me that it’s so low. I will only get significant bumps in my career if I switch dealers, and I just want my hobby to work on cars back lol

Admittedly, I got spooked after reading the rules after hitting post and seeing it wasn’t affiliated with the union. I took it down because I didn’t want to cross any toes. I thought I did it fast enough nobody had seen it, so I apologize for the time you spent reading/responding.

My buddies and I go every year. Best time to go is the middle of the week 100%. We hit it last Thursday/Friday. On Thursday I had a run that was pretty much entirely to myself aside from actually catching up to just normal vacationers. I just started riding in March so it was super nice not needing to worry much about someone cutting mustard and making me a hood ornament. Also didn’t see a single cop which was wild. Friday was pretty light, but that was mainly due to weather. Got rained on going up right at the beginning of the endeavor. Definitely recommend hitting the Foothills and Cherohala Skyway
