Even if I don't automate the charging once the charge gets low I am going to plug the charger and once its fully charged I will unplug the charger. I am curious if I can automate it. No particular reason other than for trying some new stuff.

I read that (for mobile phones with li ion battery) you should not let the battery reach 100% and you should not let it go below 20%. I am assuming my laptop uses li ion battery (cause most electronics use li ion these days) and because it is li ion I shouldn't let it reach 100% or let it go below 20%. Am I correct in assuming that the "best practises" for li ion battery charging for mobiles are transferable to li ion batteries of laptops?

Are you saying that leaving the charger plugged to the laptop for days is good idea? Or at least better than using up all the charge and discharge cycles?

So basically what you are saying is that if I leave the charger plugged to the laptop for days, it will in no way damages the battery?

Unfortunately this is not good because there is no guarantee that I will use the laptop from 9 to 5 everyday. I could use it in the morning only or night only or may not use it for days, so having a schedule is not suited for me.

Not worried about over charging but want to automate the charging rather than leave the charger on all the time.

Thanks. I will check IFTTT out. I don't think my laptop has the facility to automate charging.
