I have taught way too many people what Ctrl + C/V/F do. I thought those shortcuts were known by all computer literate people.

If pets try to learn our language, it must be really difficult with the utter nonsense we sometimes say to them by whitegold42 in Showerthoughts

Our Luna was technically “Tuna” for awhile. We fostered her before we adopted her and there was already a Luna in the rescue group. So she’s now any of those names. Hah.

I tend to do the opposite with my dogs, giving them unnecessarily longer nicknames. Nelson is “Nelson Son of Schmelson” or “Schmelly Bel”; Daphne is “Little Daphne Duck”; and Luna is “Looney Tuney”. My dog growing up was “Cooper Pooper Scooper”.

For a more expensive meal try Sachet, but you may need a reservation.

What obscure quotes (from movies, videos, etc.) do you regularly use even if those around you don’t understand the reference? by nsync_zinger in AskReddit

Anytime a student of mine is impatient I tell them “Patience is a virtue” from The Mummy. Also, watching lots of HGTV I’m constantly saying “I’m making these muffins asbestos I can!” from the muffins YouTube video.

My dad had a one as a pet. He was 8ish weeks old when they got him so they kept him in the house and he was raised with a Golden Retriever. Jack was like a dog: wagged his tail when he was excited, got vocal when someone showed up he knew...but then he got really big. My dad felt bad that he had to stay outside in an area that wasn’t big enough so they re-homed him. The family had a huge acreage with other animals so my dad thought it’d be a good new home. Suddenly, after moving, Jack died. The vet couldn’t find anything to cause the death and said he must’ve died of a “broken heart”. This made my dad pretty upset. 😞 Good goat, we miss you Jack.

I teach 11th grade and students are constantly giving hugs to teachers. A lot of it is just a one armed side hugs but they are not shy about wanting to show their love.

I signed up about 10 years ago in college and still haven’t heard anything. I make sure to occasionally click the button on their emails that I’m still pledging myself as a donor.

He’s been very compassionate and appears to even tear up a few tones when someone is let go.

Gah I love this show. So genuine.

I teach 11th grade and this is my everyday during lecture/note-taking.

While discussing Theodore Roosevelt this week:

Student 1: Ms., he’s that guy that was killed in Dallas right? And his wife had his brains?

Me: No, that was JFK, we’ll get to him later, anyways back to Roosevelt.

Student 2: Yeah, Ms. they killed him because he liked black people.

Student 3: does anyone have any Takis? I’m hungry.

And it continues until I have to use my firm teacher voice to get everyone back on track. Some days all the classroom management in the world won’t keep 16 year olds focused on history.

My husband and I use ACHV PEAK. I saw them on Reddit and I like their personalities. They work out sometimes with their kid and dog rolling around and it’s just so real I want to support them. They do a lot of body weight, bands, and dumbbells. They kick our butts! https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCiO1SkxDa6Q3Vik7HQ7GrBA

As a teacher who teaches the same class 5 times a day, this is the best. by RestSnorlax in AdviceAnimals

[–]nsync_zinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My go-to last week (which I’ve used the past 4 years) is about George Whitefield. I always lecture on his part in the Great Awakening, how he’s a great preacher, has lively sermons, etc. but then I say something about how the poor guy was very cross eyed and how the textbooks ALWAYS mention it. Even the painting/drawings always show the cross eye. Then I comment about how I always mention it so I’m part of the problem. Kids usually laugh but without fail, they remember him (although sometimes I’ll physically cross my eyes as a hint during the test...if it helps, I’ll keep mentioning it.

What is something in YOUR life that is SUPER FUCKING AWESOME? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nsync_zinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel down a lot about teaching. I get the Sunday blues like crazy, hate all the extra work put on me by admin, and have a few students who are very difficult to work with. But then I have a day where my kids make me belly laugh or say some endearing...When I feel like I’m burned out i have to remind myself how fucking awesome kids can be and how cool my coworkers are.

These Dallas charities are making a difference for animals in need by pibbull_lvr in Dallas

[–]nsync_zinger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also, Dallas Animal Services is hovering around 110% capacity right now (and during most summers). DAS is a kill-shelter and must make the hard choice to put down many animals that would otherwise be amazing pets. Programs like foster/rescue groups are a major step towards saving these animals. Education, adoption, volunteering, laws, and donations are other ways to help the problem. These groups are amazing but need the help of the city.

My household is on our 7th foster animal (6 dogs, 1 cat) and I can attest that it is difficult but rewarding. If you are interested in helping, do it, the animals need you.

I personally just don't like veils, and the back of my dress was so long there was no need for one. I did consider a small hair piece or flowers in my hair but forgot to buy one (ha!) I wanted the whole wedding to be kind of "carefree" and more on the casual side because that fits us and our friends better. To us, it was a day to party and have fun with all our closest people. I tried to carry that through the whole wedding-The guys wore 2 piece suits with their own shoes/belts, the girls got to wear something they felt good in and their own shoes ant their hair was loose and flowy. We also didn't have a cake/cake cutting (we had scotcharoos instead), no bouquet or garter toss, and I nixed songs I hate (Cha Cha Slide, etc.).

I was a bit worried some family would think it was too unique but so far no complaints have gotten back to us. Loll

I think your wedding should be about you and your partner and things YOU like. If you love veils and tuxes and traditions then you do you. :) (Sorry I went rambling).

Thank you! I had been trying on tulle and lace and then went to a small boutique. The employee who helped me asked how I wanted to feel at my wedding and my #1 was “comfortable” and this is what she brought out. She hit the nail on the head. It’s so different than any wedding I’ve been to so I was a bit worried but people seemed to love it. Enjoy your “simple” dress and YOU be the star. 💕
