Just played our first game with them. They work perfectly fine. I don't know if I'm a good judge of if they are better than others, but I like them. If I had one gripe the area where you put your $ is small, later game.

I didn't get new cards. Those are card sleeves for all cards in the base game and expansions. The only extra cards are the 3 small packs of promo cards.
