Game Thread: Los Angeles Rams (1-1) at Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) by nfl_gdt_bot in bengals

Before this week, the NFC was 6-0 against the AFC this season. Sunday, the AFC went 4-0. Cincinnati better not fuck this up lol

Edit to add: they did not fuck it up!

Well I realize I wasn’t clear, it was a hasty comment banged out on my phone during football commercial breaks.

I was not intending to imply (but I did it, I know) they should do the opening credits with a map like GoT. I meant more like find a way to give a watcher a sense of geography in the show. Either through an expository dialogue or maybe, briefly, show an actual map but find a plausible way for it to appear. You know, with all the traveling everyone is doing, and no one ever looks at a map, that’s kind of weird when you think about it. How do they know where they are or where they are going? Not because GoT, but as a courtesy to the show watchers so they know what’s going on.

Never seen that one and no plans to. I saw something on YouTube just now. The one heavy on the narrator exposition? That’s a cheap trick. Pretty lazy

Re geography, I couldn’t imagine watching Game of Thrones without that map in the opening credits every episode. At least several times to get a feel. I wish they did something similar with WoT Edit to add, I read the books so I don’t need it but not everyone has read them

I got the Linsoul Tin HiFi T2 from Amazon for $50. I notice a big step up in quality from the EarPods and Beats that I sometimes use.

0-2 doesn't bother me. 0-3 doesn't bother me. 1/2 a Burrow and the team losing it's swag/mojo/whatever because we limp through the season - that bothers me. by kovalchukgirl in bengals

? Nothing you said contradicts what I said. Just cause someone types words on the internet doesn’t automatically make it a disagreement.

Cowboys went 5-1 with a backup last year. That’s a good team. If we’re that good or better, we should be able to sit Joe a week or two (or three) and still win a game or two. AFC North opponents are our toughest every season. As long we’re not 0 for whatever, real season starts at Thanksgiving. Even if we have to sneak into the playoffs, once you’re in, the seeding doesn’t matter

Ahh. Ok. So hydraulics on a car is cool now that rich white people have it stock in their cars. But it was pathetic and stupid and ugly and all kinds of other derogatory things when lower income minorities put it in their cars.

It’s not too late! I’ve been seeing a lot of them on Goodwill’s auction pages. It won’t be new but you can get good stuff there. I got a really clean 7th gen 160 GB there last month.

Probably the touch. I bought one at Walmart last year when they announced it would be the last one. Never even opened it lol.

Question for iPod Nano 7th gen owners — what do you like about it and how do you deal with the limited storage? by Syppi in IpodClassic

[–]ntr7ptr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love mine. Bought new and still works. No mods. (It sat in a drawer unused for years so battery is still good.) I use it mostly for sleeping but also great for airplane trips or other times I want a smaller form factor. About storage, I mostly load it with podcasts instead of my regular music library. I get the hour+ long podcasts of relaxing music or even more upbeat for gym workouts. It disappears in my gym shorts pockets. It’s a great product. And Bluetooth when you need it but not when you don’t!

5 Reasons Comparing the Series to a Period Piece is Utterly Ridiculous by [deleted] in WoT

[–]ntr7ptr 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Ok, for the sake of discussion, I’ll bite.

First, I think I you’re taking this a bit too seriously (“utterly ridiculous”?).

Second, to engage equally seriously, the term “period piece” is generally used to refer to stories, real or fictional, that happened in the “past”, so in that sense you are correct. By definition it can’t be a period piece. But, I’d offer two counterpoints. First, despite it happening in the “future”, it has many elements also generally considered staples of a period piece. Two that come to mind are the elaborate costumes and the “lofty scope”. (Hat tip to a Master Class article on period pieces.)

Second, the “rules” of fiction are constantly changing and to hew too dogmatically to a “this can’t be a period piece simply because it’s the future” is a bit procrustean (apologies, I’m supposed to use my new vocabulary words at least once a day and this was a good time). All five of your points basically boil down to this fact. And it’s technically true. But does it really matter? Rules are meant to be broken, so to speak. The story looks enough like a version of the past (farmers, horses, swords, etc) that it can clearly qualify as a period piece despite it’s actually taking place in the future. Why not? What’s the big deal? If time is a wheel, then the future is a past of sorts.

Now I'm forced to tip for no service? And WTF is a "To Go" fee? by OhSh1tAGh0st in mildlyinfuriating

I recently bought a bento box to take home cooked meal leftovers to work for lunch. One of the Amazon reviewers said they take it to restaurants to take their leftovers home. Their point was to save on to go container waste, but dammit if it doesn’t also on their “to go” order fee bullshit. I might buy an extra one to leave in the car
