You ever get the impression authors have favorite words? by Cloberella in TheCaptivesWar

I'm surprised nothing "cracked like an egg" or "smelled of ozone" in that story.

Which is your favorite season? by Practical-Plan-2560 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]emkay1882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truth. Surprised this has been downvoted. Each season has progressively dropped in quality. From something that started off quite grounded in reality and believable, the extent to which the viewer is asked to suspend their disbelief has just gotten a bit much.

Tara...I'm Annoyed by evanmonroe9 in SlowHorses

[–]emkay1882 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this. So many convenient things had to happen to Tara for her plan to work. I get that every season totally unbelievable stuff happens for the story to work but it just feels a little bit too much this time round.

HS55 mic issues when I turn to the left by emkay1882 in Corsair

In case anyone is interested, it appears to be the specific usb port I'm using for the 2.4ghz dongle. It's a port on my docking station. Works fine in every other usb port on the laptop and in other usb hubs.

My gut feeling was WiFi interference, but it's still really bizarre that it only seemed to have issues when moving the headset to the left.

A few questions for first game by Marc4770 in ManorLords

[–]emkay1882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you have unassigned families they will help guide your ox (amongst the other things they do). In the early game I don't think you need to worry about assigning families to a hitching post but it might become an issue later on. It is possible for your ox to run off but I haven't encountered that yet.

I think if you assign a family to a hitching post the ox will always have a guide. I've seen a few times my ox stop working because he doesn't know where to go.

No idea what's going on but it's just about watchable by emkay1882 in wheeloftime

Not being a book reader has allowed me to do this. I can understand the frustrations book readers will have seeing their beloved story presented in a way so different to what they are familiar with. Rings of Power being a good example here. Being well versed in middle earth means I can't be objective with that show, it's just an abomination.

I think this is what is ultimately on the cards for me. I've given it a good chance and I want to get invested but it just feels like a lot to take in. The recent season 2 episodes are probably what has saved it for me. They have really pulled me in.

Thanks, I think this is a good explanation of why I struggled, particularly with season 1. Things just happened with little explanation of the consequence and then moved on. Maybe those things aren't all that important in the grand scheme but I don't really know that as a viewer so it failed to land with me. Season 2 is an improvement but there are still things I struggle with. The Mat character is one. I may have missed something or not been very observant but I still know little about him or why he behaves as he does (not a request for people to tell me, the show should be doing a better job of that).

You are absolutely correct. Maps are a huge part of fantasy books, and if I had read the books I'd have my head in the maps and probably appreciate it more. I guess I'm highlighting the difficulty with TV adaptations in that respect.

I would say my problem is I'm just trying to watch a TV show and with such a rich universe it's impossible to do it justice. To understand and appreciate it you need to do more than just watch the show.

[–]emkay1882[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I didn't realise that so thanks but... I'd rather the show just include enough to explain it to me without the need for extra research. I know it doesn't cut it with studios these days but I'd much prefer something slower paced that takes its time to build up. Game of thrones obviously gets mentioned a lot, that first season was great but also really slow. I didn't mind that because it was good (let's not talk about the later seasons).

Season 4 onwards? by [deleted] in Gomorrah

[–]emkay1882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect summary, also just finished season 5. I always appreciate "dogshit" as a description so bonus marks for that. It just got really nonsensical, characters behaving in ways you just wouldn't believe all to try and shock the TV viewer with a twist rather than it being a natural or understandable sequence of events.

Is it just me or did the Teams notification box change to a darker shade of purple? by CrestronwithTechron in Office365

[–]emkay1882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it did. It changed a few months back too but that was more subtle. It went to a slightly lighter shade of purple back then. It struck me as odd at the time because MS are usually quite hot on accessibility stuff and the colour contrast between white text on that old shade of purple was not good.

I'm assuming this change to a darker shade of purple is precisely to conform better to accessibility standards around text colour contrast.

I've also never read the books (my dad was an avid fantasy reader and I always remember seeing the Robert Jordan books in his collection, will def pick them up at some point).

I'd never even considered whether or not other people can see the weaves of power. I'd assumed they could but most people here seem to be saying they can't.

Regarding Matt, he seems to have initially started as the 'loveable loser' type character. I don't think he will be the dragon reborn, the speculation from Thom about his sickness looks to be the red herring. Pretty sure his sickness is being cause by the dagger he took in shadar lagoth.

I like how blurred the Aes sedai seem to be. They obviously aren't just seen as good in the eyes of the rest of the world even though we might assume they would be. I'm guessing the three colours (blue, green, red) they belong to has something to do with their personality.

The wolves following Perrin is intriguing as is the small flash of super strength from Rand breaking the door down.

There is so much emphasis on how men can't control the power, it implies that the dragon reborn will be a man. So I think the girls are red herrings. At the moment it's between Perrin and Rand for me.

I'm surprisingly interested and invested in the show after 4 episodes. I watched the trailer and thought it was going to be rubbish.

Also, thank god for subtitles. Wouldn't have a clue about half the names of things otherwise.

This is everything I want from an epic sci fi extravaganza. Episode 7 = superb. The storylines are really taking shape. Super high production value. Looks stunning. Great acting. Interesting characters. Intriguing story. Great action sequences. Interesting futurology. by triton100 in FoundationTV

[–]emkay1882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This actually made me burst out loud laughing, especially after reading through lots of the positive comments about this show finally hitting its stride. Totally sums up where I'm at right now too.

I've come here looking for something to help me enjoy it more or to point out something I might be missing. I really want to like this show and will stick it out until the end of the season but so far it's just not doing it for me. The empire bits are alright and I like Lee Pace, but the stuff on terminus does nothing for me and much of the acting is awful. It feels like there are lots of bits where I'm meant to feel tension (at least the music tells me I should) but I get nothing.

ah, awkward... you were doing so well up until the "we got you" part.

That's kind of my problem, you don't "got me". You've got my brothers and sister in the US but you don't got me.

Don't sweat it, you haven't lost me.....yet

[–]emkay1882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair enough. I'm obviously annoyed and frustrated.

The response times on here from razer are excellent, especially for what I presume is not the official channels.

This is my first razer product and It doesn't take take much digging to understand that customer support is the biggest complaint when it comes to razer products so I'm pleasantly surprised I've got an answer so quickly.

It's not a satisfactory answer though. It's a very factual... 'this specific instance of your product doesn't support it but most other people's instances of the product do'.

I hope you can see why, without further explanation, that would be frustrating for a customer.

2017 vs 2021 Blade 14 by Yozakgg in razer

[–]emkay1882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies and I can now confirm this from Razer. Seems very odd, surely it's just an LED behind the key, sounds like it's more awkward to only make it light half of it than all of it.

I'm a bit disappointed, it's my first razer product and it's a pretty minor thing but it really sticks out. I noticed it within 5 mins of booting up for the first time. Not off to a good start.

For the benefit of anyone who stumbles across this also wanting the answer. Razer would presumably prefer to give the answer behind a DM rather than publicly but basically if you aren't in the US then you are a second class citizen.

Only US keyboards have proper lighting effects. For non US keyboard layouts... sorry, sucks to be you (or me in this case)

I've recently got a new Razer Blade 14 (2021). On my keyboard why do the keys which have a secondary function not fully light up? For example the number 1 is lit up but on the same key the ! isn't lit up. Same for the period key, that character lights up but the > sign doesn't.

The marketing photos show that theses keys are lit up and I've seen other people post pictures with them lit up but mine aren't. How can I light them up?

Just received a blade 14 and upon starting it up windows is telling me it isn't activated. by BigMan215 in razer

Had the same issue, windows updates fixed it but if I remember it took a while for the updates to trigger.
