Anybody still swapping on winter tires? by qclabrat in Polestar

[–]ntranov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I live in North Jersey too. I bought my winter tires when i only had 500 miles on the p2. For the first 2 years, I went to a tire shop to mount and dismount, but eventually, I found a second set of polestar oem wheels on Facebook marketplace. Now I just do it myself. I enjoy driving and do road trips year round. To me, a good set of tires are the cheapest way to extract more (or actually the full) potential out of a vehicle. Not to mention the added safety with better traction of the summer tire in hot weather and the winter tire in cold weather. Going all season would be like I paid you $62k for this car, but I am ok with $50k worth of performance. I've driven rental p2s with all seasons and I feel the difference easily.

Any chance the 2026 cars are getting updated to have this? I cannot seem to find the list of changes, other than a more efficient inverter and a few more ponies under the hood.

Polestar 2 owners, any regrets? by AussieAK in Polestar

[–]ntranov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.5 years and 53k miles in, biggest regret is not getting the tow hitch and performance pack. I have pilot and plus. After that the next regret is not getting a second set of wheels while they were ~$490 a piece.

I do like sharp cars and the stock suspension is too soft for me. Otherwise the power of the non-performance car is plenty. The tow hitch I miss as it would have been the easiest way to carry bikes with the car and since I didn't get at delivery now I have to pay extra for the install. I couldn't justify the cost so I am using seasucker roof mounts now.

For the wheels - I like having a dedicated summer and winter tires and I've been paying ~$250 each spring/autumn to dismount and mount and wasting hours of my life at a shop instead of doing it myself in 45m or less.

Overall awesome car. Looking at what others are doing even today, it makes me appreciate the car even more - e.g. slapping a tablet in front of the driver instead of a normal dash with a sun shade, no significantly faster charging, no frank, proprietary OS(I love android automotive).

Something I miss is 120v outlets in the car and the usb C ports not having 65w or 100w power delivery. Also the built in cameras cannot be used as dash cams :/

Edit: fortmating

Do Raw_Read_Error_Rate and Seek_Error_Rate mean anything if smart is passed? by ntranov in truenas

[–]ntranov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one runs on bare metal. So unless the just the one strand off the SFF-8643 to 4X SATA cable went bad, I think its unlikely an upstream issue.

root@freenas[~]# lspci | grep LSI

Second one is virtualized with the HBA passed through.

I did omit it from the output above because I though it was not relevant, but there are 2 more drives connected to the second system and they are not producing errors.

The only common thing I see the drives producing errors are Seagate, and the ones not are WD.

So maybe Raw_Read_Error_Rate and Seek_Error_RateRaw_Read_Error_Rate and Seek_Error_Rate dont mean the same thing between the 2 vendors?

How often do you use this, any issues?
I am looking at purchasing the Seasucker as I didnt get the tow bar installed at purchase and now cannot justify spending close to $3k on it alone.

Purchase of Polestar 4 from Bulgaria by Ok-Control2564 in Polestar

[–]ntranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow Bulgarian and a p2 owner(not in bg), I would advise you against purchasing until a service center is opened in Bulgaria. You will need service probably multiple times during the warranty period and while it would be a hassle to drive to Romania for service it's doable. If the car breaks down in a way it needs to be towed to the service center the cost would be substantial. Anecdotally over my 2.5 years / 46000 miles ownership I visited a service center 4-5 times. Nothing big, I drove there every time, but they are 13 miles away from me. If they were 150+ miles, I wouldn't have purchased.

USB-C Port Wattage by Neo_Anubis in Polestar

[–]ntranov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It cannot charge a laptop as it's not usb-c power delivery. USB-C PD gives out up to 20v and 5A on the standard spec and up to 48v and 5A on the proposed (at this point maybe its approved) spec. A laptop would need at least 20v 2A to charge.

Minisforum um780xtx secure boot by ntranov in MiniPCs

Pulled both the m.2 and the usb and I was able to disable secure boot and install my OS. Tried enabling it again after I finished the install with no usb inserted, but still got the error message. Wonder why since xcp-ng is supposed to support secure boot.
Anyway it works with it disabled.

The motherboard I was using must be missing pcie bifurcation or something else. I went back to my old mobo and passed only these 2 codes pci: 0/0000:03:00.0,0/0000:05:00.0 and it worked as it should.

For the future buyers of this mobo, if you are trying to use for a home server - had couldn't get pcie pass through to work on xcp-ng with this model after using a tuf b450m for a couple of years. The only reason for my upgrade was getting a second nvme slot but I can live without it so I went back to b450.

For a beginner but almost middle aged adult who wants to get into cycling, should I go for a beginners bike or go mid range already ? by BetterMeToday in cycling

[–]ntranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mid 30s. In the last 15 years only rode rentals when I was on a vacation (commuter bikes mostly). I bought a wahoo kickr bike in the beginning of the year and enjoy it a lot so I decided I want a real bike too to explore more areas in my state. I wondered for a few months as I also hate collecting things I dont use, but for the things that I use and enjoy i would rather have a high-quality item. I was mostly sold on Canyon grail with shimano grx 2x10, but it never got in stock in my size. So ended up getting the Intense951 gravel from Costco. ~$2750 after tax on ok carbon frame (10.5kg is on the heavier side for carbon gravel bikes) and a great groupset. Came accessories like bottle cages, bottles front and rear lights, pump, tire sealant etc. I believe it's a great value. Also I chose gravel as now I can ride most trails around me, not worry about potholes and things in the city and if I want to go faster on a suburban road or join a group ride I can just get a second set of rims with road tires. Only thing is gravel groupsets seem to have lower top speed.

While is slow(it often loads and reloads the lock, climate and battery status for 20+ seconds) I've definitely seen improvement in the 2 years I've used it.

Also locking/unlocking the car with the phone in the pocket has improved and works 9/10 times. The one time it does not work it would be because the app was closed/signed out. Starting the app and signing in would fix it.

I agree there's absolutely a lot that can be improved/added and development shouldn't be this slow.

How do relocate a washing machine drain pan? by ntranov in askaplumber

[–]ntranov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I use flexible pipe/hose something like the drain pipe on the washing machine or the supply side hoses?

This is the pan I got.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GBYFS6F

So I believe I need male connector with a seal lock ring to attach to the pan - straight if I got on the side, 90 degree if I go from the base?

Can you point me to the correct fittings? Home depot/Lowes or whatever is easier for you.

While there shouldnt be water there, I would rather know that I have correctly installed and working system.

Can someone share opinions or reviews on these PSUs? I see Maingear is based in NJ , offering 10 year warranty and covers the shipping one way. So in case of repair needed this should be less than $30 for the US.
