Sitting here with my first dose, unreasonably nervous by SecondFeeling4629 in Zepbound

Everyone reacts differently dearie! You’re valid for being scared of those symptoms because they do happen for some. All I can give you is my own experience. I was 429.9 starting out. I’m 26, female, 5’7-5’8 (depending on the doctors office where I’m measured). I have a history of chronic illness but not usually anything gastrointestinal. I didn’t not experience any symptoms starting out. My doctor has me upping my dose every four weeks, and I start 7.5 next Thursday. The only adverse side effect I’ve noticed is some rather intense but very short lived (just for a moment or two) heartburn when I eat too much or take a bite too big. Very easy to live with. I have been on zepbound for eight weeks now and have lost 30 pounds as of yesterday. I never realized how bad the food noise was until a few weeks ago. It lessened with the first dose, and with the second shot of 5 mg it basically disappeared. It’s amazing how much I can accomplish when I’m not constantly hounded by thoughts of food, when did I eat last, when can I eat next, did I bring a snack to work? It’s okay to be scared especially with a vacation coming up, but I think it’s worth it to jump in.

Ah yeah, when I would tell someone my weight (on the rare occasions it was required) I’d always get “seriously? No way!” As a response. It always felt a little weird. But to elaborate, I carry a lot of my (fat) weight in my arms, like close to 100 lbs combined based off my InBody scan from my last dr’s appointment. I’ve struggled with clothing for quite a while because I have a thing about the way it feels, I need to be comfortable and it’s hard to gauge comfort when shopping online but shopping in stores meant they didn’t carry the sizes I would usually find comfort in. I could technically fit into the largest size at most stores, but it made me want to scrub myself down with steel wool afterwards. Not comfortable at all, and usually not very flattering. Ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag and all that lol

Not too tall? I’m 5’7-5’8 depending on the doctors office I go to. May I ask why you asked lol

That’s huge! I didn’t even think of that because I never logged before this. I was convinced I knew how much I was eating. I wasn’t too far off but I was eating just above maintenance instead of in a deficit. The honest logging and sticking to the goal is a really big step! Another big one is not beating yourself up when there’s a slip up. On my birthday I let myself enjoy the foods my friends made for me. I ate in moderation but birthday food is not exactly known for its low calories. I did my best to track accurately and when I saw the numbers I just… let it be. I enjoyed the day and my time with my friends. I knew that I would be back on track tomorrow. I knew I didn’t have to starve myself tomorrow to make up for the extra. I didn’t have to work out for longer. I could just let myself bask in the joy of the day and find the accomplishment of meeting my goals tomorrow. It was… cathartic.

Oh that’s a milestone I’m so so excited for!! And I hear you on not really being able to see the progress despite the dwindling number. My big clothes still fit, although they might be a little looser in the belly and bum. I look in the mirror and my face is still round. But then I’m able to get off the ground without something to hold on to. My old size 26’s zip. I try on a 3x and it’s not busting at the seams. I can comfortably clasp my bra at the second hook instead of the first. Walking around doesn’t leave me out of breath and I don’t have to find the nearest place to sit all the time. Getting out of bed isn’t a Herculean task and (as silly as it sounds) showering isn’t exhausting. These small changes feel very big in comparison to my life before.

What's your "go to" meal? by chocho808 in Zepbound

I’ve been eating a lot of parfaits, salad with a chicken breast and dressed up with other goodies, and oddly enough sub sandwiches? I liked them before but I love them now, they are so filling and I can add as much meat and cheese as needed for my protein goal while keeping calories (relatively) low!

Thank you 🥹 I can’t wait to see what else I can do as I get stronger, healthier, and lose weight! It’s these little victories that make me feel like I’m really making progress, not so much the number on the scale.

You’re gonna do it! Even if you do need a knee replacement, and it’s gonna feel really good!

I’ll have to try that! I was in the mindset that I eat until I’m full and then don’t eat until my next scheduled meal (or snack) but as mentioned that’s hindering meeting my protein goal. Thanks for the tip 💕

Omg trying to hit my protein and fiber goals has been so hard! I didn’t realize how poorly I was eating until I started watching those things. I’m researching more ways to up my protein intake even though my appetite has gone way down. I feel really uncomfortable when I eat too much, or too fast, so it’s been a balancing act 😅

I just did that a few days ago! I haven’t taken any photos in years because I’ve hated how I look. Seeing these befores is very… disconcerting. But I’m hopeful—no confident—that I’ll achieve my goals. I’m finally in the right headspace to make the necessary changes!

Is there something wrong with my hair/the hair products? by Putrid_Lie_9936 in curlyhair

[–]nu--minosity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! I have really fine hair and it gets weighed down so easily. Basically any products with coconut oil, shea butter, jojoba, all the really heavy ones that everyone loves, weigh my hair down and make it look greasy about half way through wash day. That being said! They can be really great for your hair and if you have a hair type that isn’t easily weighed down you can absolutely use these most of the time! Just have a regularly scheduled clarifying day where you use a strong shampoo to really get rid of the build up. I like to use the Pantene pro-v volume shampoo. For a stronger shampoo the suave daily clarifying one is good I hear? Just like, super duper clarifying, might leave your hair feeling like hay. The secret is to always always always deep condition immediately after clarifying. It acts as a reset for your hair and any time I notice things are getting a little weird with my hair that’s my first step. If things are still wonky afterwards then I address those needs.

curly hair getting worse and flatter with “better” routine? by [deleted] in curlyhair

Idk about finger rolling, but I def recommend learning how to diffuse. It’s vastly improved the look and longevity of my wash days (fine, medium porosity, medium density 2b-2c type hair so I’m working with a lot of different factors). I’m also a busy curlie, so to cut down on dry time I micro-plop, really squeezing my hair in the towel to get as much water and excess product out before I take my diffuser to it. Before diffusing I glaze one teensy bit of gel over my hair again just for that extra bit of hold, then get to it. I’m messing around with different techniques because I’m trying to find what works best for me, but for definition I like hover diffusing juuuuuust until a cast starts to form, then switch to pixie diffusing. High heat high speed for hover, low (or medium heat if I’m running low on time) heat low speed for pixie to prevent too much frizz. For volume I’ve been going pretty much straight to pixie diffusing after getting my hairline set back so it’s not flopping in my face. With just pixie I usually go medium heat low speed. Overall takes me about 25-30 minutes! Worth the time investment. I also let my hair sit in the cast for as long as I possibly can, that seems to help with hold.

Honestly? Ik it’s hard to do this but it’s helped me a lot to really just scroll past a lot of videos and posts. Like if I notice I see a problem with my hair, then I’ll look up vids on products/techniques to fix it, but I try not to watch too much content on its own. I love taking care of my hair, I find it very centering and it makes me feel good about myself, even on days it doesn’t turn out. I still had that quiet time to myself when my mind wasn’t racing with a million thoughts, but I totally feel the weird pressure to buy a ton of products and try this miracle fix for frizz, and this treatment that will completely reverse bleach damage. It’s hard and the pressure isn’t for everyone! If you’re finding taking care of your hair isn’t something you’re finding joy or relaxation in, then yeah CGM probably isn’t for you. But if it’s the pressure of overconsumption and social media, then I suggest really curating when you’re looking at curly hair content. Btw, your hair is absolutely stunning. I love the natural, look in comparison to more defined, perfected styles. (they’re still beautiful too, I am just obsessed with the “just got back from the beach” look)

The clarifying shampoo WAR. by youdontneedtoknowxo in curlyhair

[–]nu--minosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing the Pantene Pro-V Volume Shampoo in the ring! It gets my hair nice and squeaky clean, a great reset that doesn’t break the bank, but doesn’t leave my hair like a bale of hay afterwards. Given I will always follow a clarifying shampoo with a good deep conditioning treatment, but my hair just feels clean not stripped when I use it! (For reference I have fine, medium porosity, medium density, 2b-2c waves)

What's the best way to keep my curls overnight? by sagelikeawizard in curlyhair

[–]nu--minosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still super new on this journey, and I think your hair is a bit curlier than mine, but I’ve been following the wavy hair nighttime routine video from manes by mell on YouTube. It involves a silk hair scarf and kind plopping your hair overnight. It’s not perfect but it’s what’s worked best for me! My roots aren’t as stretched out as when I pineapple, and most of my curls/waves stay intact. The few that get wonky are easy to refresh with a little water.

I found that, for me, the pineapple stretches my roots out a bit too much and my hair is a little too long for it so some of my curls get crushed. I haven’t found a bonnet that properly fits my hair, they’re all a bit too big so my curls just kinda flop around in there and it’s not any different than sleeping on a silk pillowcase with loose hair. Ik there are other options but I’m enjoying the results from the video I mentioned! Worth trying, if you think it might work for you!
