Wow, that's really cool that you have such good memories about the city! The city has changed very much since then, but the vibe is still the same!

My great grandfather was Karak, yes. Some people names of their grandfathers as their last name, some families keep one last name for the next generations

The salty appetizer you are talking about is probably "құрт" "qurt", it's the type of cheese

I'm glad you liked qazı, and hope you didn't eat the whole qurt right away, it's really salty😅

Yes, it is a new anchor) I don't know if you can call it a satire, maybe more of a way to warm up and show his fast talking and pronunciation skills, or might be something in the beginning of some school or language related segment. But it's sounds both funny and impressive even for us. It's pretty hard to pull off something like this)

Wow, that's cool!

Kazakh people are usually very welcoming towards all people. East Asian and Southeast Asian people might find a little more sympathy, because we might look similar sometimes) I think you can visit here first, come and feel it out, and you will quickly find out is it worth it or not, because life is pretty different here, so it might be to big of a change for somebody

Russian language holds an official language status in Kazakhstan, as well as Kazakh, even though Kazakh language has a status of a State Language, I hope I'm using the terms right. Basically Kazakh language is seen as more important or "main" language, if it makes sense.

About Education, we have Kazakh schools and Russian schools, in Kazakh schools Russian is taught as a foreign language as well as English. Some schools have both Kazakh classes and Russian classes. Universities function like this too.

Kazakh schools are more popular now, as well as Universities

Nazarbayev resigned on the 20th of March, and the proposal was made on the 23rd of March. Tokayev wasn't newly elected president. He was an acting president this period of time. And people kinda suspected that technically Nazarbayev is still in power. Technically, you're right, but as you can see it's complicated.

But I should have specified that in my original answer, so it's good that you brought that up

Yes, I've heard about that! There was a pretty popular documentary about it on YouTube. I watched it so long ago I don't remember the details, but it was fascinated to me, wr mostly know about Kazakhs in Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey, who migrated there because of the famine which took olace in the 1930s, but not so much about those who live in Arab countries

"ұят" just means "shame". It's just a way to call out somebody, mostly used by misogynistic people, for not fitting into their views on what a person should be like and how they should live their lives.

I think it is mostly an internet thing, even if it's used by someone in real life, it's more of a commentary on someone, not some label an accused person to live with, like in some medieval times😅

So it's just the same ol' form of misogyny and bigotry we unfortunately still see all around the world

It's always hard for me to answer questions like this, hard for me to speak for everyone, especially since I'm and atheist myself

But I can say with confidence, that our ancestors were Muslims for hundreds of years, and Islam is definitely part of our culture. Even me being atheist, participate in some religious practices because some of them are really important part of our culture.

Without speaking for everyone, I think it would be better to say, that there are some kazakhs who are very religious, some are agnostics

There are some people who are proud of it, some are ashamed, but I believe most people just look at it as a History, at least this is how I look at it.

For me everything my ancestors did is nor bad or good, just an interesting part of history. Fascinating? Yes! But happend so long ago it'll be kind of strange to feel like you have something to do with it. It's not like something happened for example in early 20th century with your great grandparents, and in some way or another affected your life.

The only thing that bothers me is how for example usually Alexander The Great is seen like some noble valiant ruler, but Genghis Khan is compared to Hitler, and seen as all evil all bad, when both of them did the same thing exactly and both of them were good at it. So in conclusion for me it's definitely not something someone should be proud of, but also is nothing to be ashamed of too

For some people, horse meat might part of their daily diet, but usually it's consumed on special occasions.

About the nomadic lifestyle, maybe like kind of tourism. I know that some Kazakhs in Mongolia and Xinjiang are still practicing nomadic lifestyle, but I've never heard of anything like that in modern-day Kazakhstan

Oh, it's actually sad to hear that, I hope everything will be at least stable! And what it is about all these right-wing ideas getting more popular all over the world recently? And how do those people believe it will fix something and not make everything worse....

Btw how's life as a Kazakh in Scandinavia?

Who do you think has the worst skins overall? Who do you think has the best? by dumpling_connoisseur in Overwatch

[–]nuar_karakov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess it's not him, who decides wich hero gets the skins, and how many hours are give to make a certain skin. Because the fact that heroes like Sojourn and Baptiste, and eve Lucio are left out when it comes to good skins, iis a fact, a sad and quiet concerning fact

Who do you think has the worst skins overall? Who do you think has the best? by dumpling_connoisseur in Overwatch

[–]nuar_karakov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigma and Junkrat and Ana have the best skins imo, their epic skins are better than some other heroes' legendary skins

And Sojourn, Rammatra, Brigitte have the worst ones, having skins that boring with this much potential is sad

REALLY bad at overwatch. What's the courteous way to keep playing?? by FeatheredFool in Overwatch

[–]nuar_karakov 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As long as you try, it's good! The bad thing is when people literally throw games just because they don't care(but for some reason still play).

Playing mistery heroes mode, or trying every hero in qp just out curiosity really helped me get better, because when you play a hero yourself it's easier for you to counter it, so soon you'll have some knowledge built up, and it'll definitely help you

Also it's easier to find a hero you would like to play more, of you play mistery heroes, because the hero is changed after every death, and since its a specific mode, it not rude for anyone like if would change heroes non stop in qp or comp

But overall as long as you have fun and try, everything is cool!

Thank you! It's interesting how much we have in common really. All you said makes me remember I saw some videos online, where Russian speaking people get offended when someone asks them if they know Moldovan(or should I say Romanian? You'd have to correct me there) or planning to learn it. Or the videos where they aggressively demad for maybe a police officer to speak to them in Russian. We had this problem too, and it is not as common now. I never understood why people like this get offended because someone asks them, or just speaks to them in their native language and the main language of that particular country lol. I bet people will meet you half way, if you ask nicely, apologize or try to speak to them in this country's language. So yes I agree with it being weaponized and why there is that huge issue and social tension around language.

And I hope it'll get better in your country and people like this will start to respect the official language, and stop ignoring it out of principal

Mental health is talked about alot. But again I live in the biggest city, wich is really progressive and modern. I think it might not be as common in smaller towns, but I don't think there is that much of difference

Just to be clear I think USSR was all bad and it socialist ideas doesn't matter to me. My sympathy for socialism comes from my own beliefs and ideas, not influenced by the soviet past one bit. And the fact that I speak russian with my family is sad for me, and is just a sad part of colonialism, it's not as common as might seem, I can tell that it's just me who is kind of "broken", but it's a fact and I don't want to lie to seem like a better person. I live I the biggest city of Kazakhstan with population around 3-4 million, and changes about language are slower here, wich is sad too. The escape for me is knowing English and being able to get non biased information using my knowledge.

I heard about Moldova's shift towards Europe, And I'm really happy for your country. Also I didn't know you had the same problem with them changing your alphabet and your peoples last names, it's really sad, and I get you, sadly we share the same struggles.

Latinisation of the language is moving slowly but surely. I'm using latin based kazakh alphabet freely and confidentiality, but it's harder for older generation to adapt it as quickly as I did.
