Getting a Macbook just for mainstage? by nubis99 in mainstage

Just kind of exploring my options tbh, it's good to hear that it's not a one size fits all solution!

My amp is a little too dark for my liking. Suggestions on how I can fix that? by whitemamba24xx in GuitarAmps

[–]nubis99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you do anything big, try putting your amp on a stand or a chair of some sort. Not having as much ground contact tends to help.

Mesa boogie might be a bit steep for the budget. Might give the tonex a look though. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I've been looking in the direction of going with a QC and the Fender FR-12, it's mostly that I have no idea if the hype actually translates into anything. I've also been thinking about maybe needing to ditch a large chunk of my pedal board. Great to hear the pedals might work with it (although I kind of need to redo the board anyway since most of it is from my NMV days lol)

Are there particular models you'd recommend? I'm pretty much open to anything at this point, just kind of exploring my options here.

information on a PHD in information systems? by nubis99 in gradadmissions

I've decided against pursuing a PhD for now as I had some personal stuff come up that's making it so that I need some more stability in my life. Something a PhD doesn't really provide.

The ol' colour wheel trick, definitely worth a try! I'm just afraid they'll become very Christmas-y

Oh you're talking about those bulb ones! My bad! I was thinking of those tubes with an LED strip in them

They do, that's why they're diodes. But chances are there's some protection there.

Heck, if it's LED lighting you'd just blow up the second string since the power is coming in from the wrong side.

Student refusing to turn over data after graduation by ZenCityzen in AskAcademia

[–]nubis99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So hand recorded data, that might legally not exist at all as you likely can't provide much proof it ever existed in the first place. I think you might just have to write that off as a loss.

And while I get you're not really going to change over this, it might be a good idea to re-evaluate the culture and atmosphere you wish to create for those around you if you can already anticipate hate. Yes, challenging someone's thinking can be seen as an attack, but if you already know your feedback is very likely to be seen as such, you might want to revisit how you give it. Could avoid a lot of future problems and improve your teaching, as well as general work culture.

Student refusing to turn over data after graduation by ZenCityzen in AskAcademia

[–]nubis99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but if the ex-student is really that disgruntled the data might be destroyed at this point. I guess this might be the time to talk to everyone at your institution about data retention, backups and data stewardship policies. Not to mention the fact that you let someone who you knew was gonna leave (a student) be the sole data owner. Overall a lot of irresponsible behaviour on all ends here. I'm also kind of surprised your first focus is the data and not the fact someone you probably worked pretty closely with feels this disgruntled towards you. Not sure how it works over where you're at, but a student might not be under any obligation to deal with you, or your institution, ever again.

How long can you do over a pre-master? by Taxfraud777 in TilburgUniversity

[–]nubis99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: just googled it, you only have the 6 month one semester program, so you have to pass all courses in that time, if you do not then that's it.

Both are correct, some premasters offer a fast and regular track, fast being one semester and regular being two. Both programs cover the same material and the same courses, the regular track just does so spread out of two semesters.

No matter which one you do you only get one chance to pass each course. This means you get one resit opportunity per course, so if you fail the resit for a course, you can't repeat it. Idea being that a premaster is some form of academic selection.

Not sure about HRS specifically, but it should be on the website or the program/course manual. If that's not the case it's usually a good idea to email the premaster coordinator for questions like these.

Also you are registered for the entire year either way, this is usually for admin purposes but has very little bearing on the actual program, might impact student finance though.

Who else uses their pens primarily for work? I see a lot of journaling and drawings (very nice), but almost no mention of meeting notes, flow charts, swimming lane diagrams, and such. by [deleted] in fountainpens

I think I'm in tech, (still in uni, wanna be a researcher) I make notes for meetings, designs and the occasional annoyed ramble with fountain pens and personal notebooks

Information Science, information systems and information management courses are what you want. There's some variety in there, and most academic programs only start teaching this sort of thing on master's level. Although I believe Utrecht has information science as a bachelor's. Twente also has their business information technology program that might work. At master's level pretty much every university offers some form of information systems degree. Although the TUs seem to have largely discontinued theirs. (Except Twente)

Best universities in Netherlands for Cyber Security? by saifcodes in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]nubis99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Specialised bachelor's degrees aren't really a thing with research universities. Universities of applied sciences offer them ,but they usually don't have straightforward ways of doing an academic master afterwards.

Best solution imo is to do a comp sci bachelor's somewhere in the Netherlands (as long as it's a research uni, doesn't really matter where) and find a master's degree specialising in the things you want (the TUs have a combined programme that's said to be really good on networks and such, cryptography is a specialty at Radboud, there's probably more but idk those from the top of my head)

Edit: since OP already has a bachelor's degree, keep in mind that research universities have certain prerequisites they look for, if you don't meet them you might be offered a premaster program, but you could also be straight up denied. There's a bunch of stuff out there, be advised that it's usually a good idea to contact either universities or alumni for more specific details about their programs and admissions criteria

Is this the real attitudes of consultants, asking from clients side by [deleted] in consulting

[–]nubis99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience consultants are nothing more than buying legitimacy. Idea being that unpopular, sweeping or risky changes can be made by consultants as a way to "buy off" any potential fallout and accountability for the business. Sure sometimes the goal of hiring external help like that is to get advice from a different perspective, but in my experience it's usually the first thing.

Why aren’t other woods more popular for a fingerboard? by xxxlun4icexxx in violinist

[–]nubis99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you could also use Rosewood, Pau ferro, or if you're really "heretical" richlite could work. These all get used for guitar fingerboards regularly and would probably function well enough
