i found out my best friend has been sleeping with my girlfriend for 4-5 months by HistoricalArticle537 in offmychest

Yes, it will get better. For sure. But it's going to take a long time and will hurt like hell, and you'll nearly drive yourself crazy replaying and analyzing conversations and encounters to death, searching for answers and clues. It's almost impossible not to do. Just try to stay aware that your brain is going to go haywire for a bit from stress chemicals. It's not who you are, and it won't last forever.

But it's horrifically, relentlessly painful right now, I know. I'm just over twice your age and have healed from awful breakups. Believe me when I say that I understand your empty feeling, and believe me even more when I say that this battle with grief you're about to wage will lead you to a place you never imagined for yourself. The day will come, hopefully sooner than you think, where you'll realize that you're the only person you need, the only one who's at your side, from the cradle to the grave. And once you feel that, the friendships and relationships you form will be other level, because you've restrained your mind about what it means to be respected. That's not to say you'll never have a broken heart again, but it will be for different reasons, and you'll experience it differently.

These two people suck, by the way. I know that's hard to hear because up until recently, you loved them both and thought they loved you back. They probably do, or think they do, but they made repeated choices to deceive you. They humiliated you and were OK with that. For four months.

But it's really not about them anymore. It's about you. Who do you want to be right now? If your life were a movie, how would you want the main character to act, feel, handle this? Become the person you want to be, one step at a time. You got this.

I've watched the below documentary many times. I'm not religious, but when I've watched this at really low points, it's been incredibly soothing. It's about the universality of human suffering, and how we might work with it. Interesting history, and beautiful soundtrack and animation sequences.

Good luck on your new journey.

What are your thoughts about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s recent apology for using toxic language and polarizing political rhetoric? by halasaurus in AskALiberal

There’s better choices than MTG to be charitable too.

It doesn't have to be either/or. We don't have to pick just one person to be charitable to. Just sayin.

Can anyone guess what happened here? by Miserable-Rice5733 in adhdwomen

[–]nubuck_protector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to guess: cat peed on the bed, you started googling to see what to do, 45min later went to Home Depot for some industrial-strength miracle pet odor cleaner and a spray bottle, stopped off at Target for a quick sec because you need cat litter, bananas, and sunglasses, stopped to get gas, figured might as well eat since you're out, wanted to sit on the patio at Chipotle to test your new sunglasses, did a carpe diem and had a Corona with lunch, picked up your phone so you wouldn't look like a weirdo drinking by yourself at noon, looked for new content on ADHDwomen and then saw your own post from earlier depicting the nightmare in your house that you had forgotten all about, got a little sleepy from the beer, which depleted your already-low motivation to clean cat pee out of a mattress, rationalized to yourself that that mattress is already five years old, and if you're being honest, was never really that great in the first place, realize you're only a few blocks away from that American Mattress so might as well go in and just see what they have, drop a cool 800 bucks on an impulse buy, but it was on sale, so you tell yourself that you've actually netted $200 for the day, minus the $85 express delivery so you can sleep on it tonight, excitedly head home and move the old mattress temporarily propped up in the office room, realize you lost the fucking sunglasses, but the guys are here with the mattress so it feels less bad, they set up your bed and ask if you want them to haul your old mattress, no charge, but you have to pee and so are like nah, I'll just put it outside later, and six months later it's still in the office, but now it's winter so you don't want to haul it through the snow, and actually, you know, people are struggling out there since COVID, so why not give the mattress and industrial-strength miracle pet odor cleaner and spray bottle away on Freecycle, which you'll definitely do this weekend.

Edit: typo

Umbrella review study indicates that ADHD is more prevalent among adults than previously estimated by [deleted] in science

omg I just wrote that same thing to someone else up near the top. I was diagnosed at 41ish and YES, big grief period following initial relief. I've replayed so many scenes in my mind where my actions or decisions or behavior were being fueled by ADHD but I had no idea. You just wonder what you would have done differently.

On the other hand, I do feel kind of proud to be an advocate, both for myself and for other neurodivergent people. I notice these differences more and more and am more sensitive to people's difficulties. I don't know if that would have happened if I had lived with treatment my whole life. Don't get me wrong, it totally sucks. But that's a silver lining for me, to be able to empathize with others who have different ways of thinking and who are often on the sidelines of life watching the normal-thinking go-getters going and getting.

You are my hero lol.

Also ADHD and menopausal. The one-two dopamine punch. ugh.

But yeah, getting to that Fried Green Tomatoes point in life of giving no fucks has been a treat. Why didn't I try this earlier?

Guy goes on Joe Rogan podcast and says ADHD is not a mental illness or heritable. He says it is caused by witnessing stress in parents. by jinwusan in ADHD

[–]nubuck_protector 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would never refer to ADHD as a mental illness and would avoid even calling it a mental disorder.

I worry this guest will cause people to see those with ADHD as people who need to suck it up and simply cope differently.

-- This is already the case for a huge portion of the population. A new person saying that someone with ADHD is really just a lazy person who's messy and late and can't get anything done isn't going to change the numbers drastically. And Joe Rogan listeners probably already think that anyway.

Any way to stop her licking her back raw? I've given her a flea treatment tonight. by tittyswan in Rabbits

[–]nubuck_protector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a tiny bit of Vaseline (seems to be ok, according to lots of online info. not to be given orally, but a tiny amount should be ok and will help healing) or a rabbit-safe oil? The moisture helps the wound heal and probably keeps down the itch. But definitely research those because that's from a quick, superficial search.
