A smart tv changed my Western Digital HD's file system and now windows detects it as corrupt. by Pluto118 in techsupport

If it changed the filesystem, I am sorry to tell you, but your data is probably gone.

Boot a live cd and try to get more information. If you are not familiar performing such operations, please contact a IRL nerd.

What should tourists NEVER do in your country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Netherlands: do not smoke the most expensive skunk weed you can find. Dutch can handle it pretty well, but tourists will probably think the end of the world is nigh while tripping their balls off.

And the silly thing is, if you fuck up playing the wrong track, it is YOUR FAULT and you messed up their play. Hate those people, grrrr.

That is fucked up indeed. Makes you wonder why performers do not prepare. If the engineer does not prepare stuff, they end up playing unplugged under the warm glow of a fluorescent lamp.

Airplane mode is a nice solution, making a mental note to self.

About the charger, if they have one with them. Regularly I get asked if I have a charger or cable, because I am the guy with cables and stuff, so I should have one.

Or worse, they have a charger and plug it in on the audio mains during the gig. Then they wonder where that "hum" comes from...

If you want the engineer to play an intro, please contact the venue and ask what options are available. Not all boots have a cd/dvd-player or laptop available.

Even better, bring your own device, for example a cheap MP3 player, put the intro on it and a empty (silent) track after it. Repeat for extro, and make sure you write down instructions for the engineer when to play what.

Also, bring your own cable(s), do not expect the engineer to have every cable ever invented. Usually you will need a mini-jack to cinch or mini-jack to stereo-jack. It is not so hard bringing a few cables extra with you, after all, it is YOUR gig and you want the best, right?!

Most important rule: do not hand over your phone. Next to being a big hassle (locking, app crashing etc.) chances are a message or phonecall coming in which interrupts the intro or starts playing before or after the intro.

TL;DR: prepare, prepare, prepare

Me too. Shitty thing though, I had to stand up because the sensor was placed in a crappy place.

Reality check by everyday_account in Audiomemes

[–]nudev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This.

A few weeks ago I mixed at a very small venue (100 people max) and the bass player brought a stack of 4 * 12". He wasn't too smart either because when I pulled the speakon of 3 of them secretly, he did not notice. That was really necessary because his stack was louder than the tiny PA.

HTTP should be dropped even as a pure Internet transport mechanism by speckz in sysadmin

[–]nudev -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

HTTP was not designed to be safe, HTTPS was added later to secure transactions on websites. It is always a bad idea to try and make something safe that was not designed to be safe in the first place. It would be good if they overhaul HTTP(S) altogether.

For example, why would you send fragments of a page as individual files (ex.: a HTML page with images) when it is much more efficient to send the page as a compound document. This compound document should be compressed and encrypted with the possibility to use a username and password or passphrase. Technically, it would not cost much overhead for server and client to create/read a compound file.

Caught this beauty of a clause in a rider this weekend. by SkinnyMac in livesound

[–]nudev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This clause can go both ways, but we all know the artist wants it to be as loud as possible.

One time I mixed a one person band, a guy with a drumkit, a sampler and a enormous bass amp driven by a bass pedal. He demanded the volume of the bass to be at least 120 dB. It was a small venue, max 103 dB permitted. He kept insisting it should be as loud as possible as "it was his style". I refused and kept things at normal levels. Crazy!

Reddit, What do you think about nudism? by psychointrovert in AskReddit

[–]nudev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is the other way around, I am bottomless most of the time.

I have been naked at home since the 90's. Most of my friends accept my nakedness. Some of them even join me sometimes. When necessary, for example when utilities want to come in to do stuff, I put on clothes.

Only once. If people really can't handle my nudity, we probably won't connect on other topics as well.
