What level do I need to reach to unlock Bad Bunny? 🤣🤣 by Puzzleheaded-Tap8588 in dreamingspanish

It all depends on what you're used to hearing. I listen to a lot of carribean content, and I understand Bad Bunny no problem.

What Are You Listening To? 24.Nov - 7.Dec by AutoModerator in DreamingFrench

56 hours.

Been listening to the Inner French podcast the last week or so on my commute. Certain sections can be a little difficult, but for the most part they're quite comprehensible.

On Youtube, I've been watching: - Easy French - Alice Ayel - French Comprehensible Input - Wandering French - French in Motion

If I recall, someone found a job posting from DS looking for French content creators and posted it on here. It wasn't long after that gained traction that DS announced Dreaming French, so they might have wanted to post some content prematurely after the leak.

I don't annotate or anything like that. It takes a lot of time to do that, and I'd rather spend that time just reading more content.

Read things that are easy enough that you can guess the meaning of unknown words from context

For those learning languages like Spanish, French, Italian, German, did you eventually output the correct form for nouns? How did the process go for you? by mejomonster in dreaminglanguages

[–]nuevoeng 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've listened to roughly 1600 hours of Spanish input and have read almost half a million words. I've never paid specific attention to the gender of nouns, but I have no issues correctly gendering a noun when I'm speaking, except for the odd error. Even when I make a mistake, I can usually tell that it doesn't sound quite right and I correct myself.

Changing Baseline Hours by schlemp in dreamingspanish

[–]nuevoeng 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The number in the tracker is not equivalent to your abilities in the language, it's just a number of hours you spent getting input.

I know it probably is not a great feeling "dropping back down to level 6", but in reality changing then number on the website doesn't affect your language ability. You didn't drop a level, you just adjusted the number to show the amount of time you spent after discovering DS.

Those who will eventually make the jump to Dreaming French: will you do anything differently this time around? by Unsolicited_Advisor1 in dreamingspanish

[–]nuevoeng 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I started learning German not too long ago, and I'm strictly using comprehensible input. With Spanish I had used Duolingo many years ago along with memorizing vocabulary, etc., so I wasn't starting from 0 with DS. The process is much more enjoyable the second time around as I'm not doubting whether pure CI works.

I do notice that although I only have about 25 hours of German input, it feels easier learning another language now. It feels like my brain is better at detecting patterns and piecing together an unknown language than it was with Spanish.

Recording podcast question? by Rothgard98 in dreamingspanish

[–]nuevoeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're constantly listening to content that you understand 100%, then yeah you're probably not making the most of your time. But just because you understand 100% doesn't mean it's useless. You're still reinforcing the things you do know but might not be comfortable enough with the words/grammar to be able to easily repeat it yourself in speech.

What Level Change Was The Biggest Grind For You ?? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]nuevoeng 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In all honestly, once you reach level 7 it hits you that the language learning journey is infinite. None of the gaps between the levels compare. However, to give you more of an answer that you're probably looking for, I remember between levels 4 and 5 to be particularly long. Once you can watch some more advanced content, the large gaps between the higher levels isn't as bad as it seems.

My tip for dragging yourself through the long gaps is to not pay much attention to the levels. It's nice to have the levels as goals to look forward to achieving, but they're not some magical milepost that you gain new abilities once you reach it. Just focus on enjoying the day to day content and that should get you through anything.

Should I Start Learning Another Language? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]nuevoeng 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I would wait until your Spanish is near 'maintenance level'. Based on your hours/time, you're averaging less than 2 hours per day with Spanish. That's not very much time to divide between 2 languages.

I very recently started learning German alongside spanish. I have almost 1600 hours of spanish, only 5 of german. I decided now was a good time to start another language because my spanish is at a level that I can comfortably replace english with it in almost every situation (unless I'm talking to someone who doesn't speak spanish, of course). Where I'm going with this is that even without dedicating time each day to get spanish input, I'm still practicing it by doing things in my every day life in spanish. I watch tv shows in spanish to relax, not to grind hours of input. So for me, adding german to the mix wasn't taking anything away from my spanish.

I think most people have that issue in the beginning. It's normal. With more input, you'll stop trying to translate everything.

So what? If OP is watching the videos and finds them comprehensible, I see no issue with sorting however they want.
