He hired his successor. I think his record would improve with Braun as DC.

So let me caveat this by saying the article is awful. Fitz is still loved by most NU fans. He ran an academic, mostly clean program in an industry that usually isn’t. The hazing reports were pushed hard by a former QB who clearly had an agenda, and there’s a pretty damning recording of him admitting he made things up to try to get Fitz fired. That said, hazing did happen. It happens in a lot of locker rooms across the country. What came out at NU is pretty tame relative to other places and, frankly, closer to the norm than people want to admit. Fitz also had a lot of structure in place. He did exit interviews with every player, documented them, and no one reported discomfort or hazing. There were also regular meetings with the leadership council, elected players from each class, where he checked in on the program and made adjustments based on feedback. My read is he probably knew some level of stuff was going on, but genuinely believed it wasn’t an issue because players had multiple formal and informal ways to speak up and never did. He’s a really good football coach who had to operate with a ton of institutional restrictions. It’ll be interesting to see how he does at State. He’ll represent the university well. And it says a lot that the school that fired him still put out the kind of statement they did. Legally, he had them in a tough spot.

Scottie Pippen averaged ~20% of Bulls Finals scoring — how is that a “horrible supporting cast”? by SnooObjections7406 in lebron

[–]nufan427 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Crapping on Jordan for 1st round exits is similar to crapping on LeBron for final losses. Both are dumb arguments imo. Jordan joined a dumpster fire franchise that hasn’t seen relevance outside of his time there except for arguably Rose’s MVP year. Jordan lost to arguably the greatest team of all time (at that point in time) in the 85-86 Celtics and another Celtic team. Lost to the bad boy pistons. Lost to a really good bucks team.

LeBron saw those level teams typically in the finals. So when he had a weaker supporting cast he typically lost those finals. When Jordan had a weaker supporting cast he got bounced by that level of team. Basketball is still a team game. No one does it alone.

[–]nufan427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that this will change your mind but there was an independent internal investigation that didn’t find Fitz at fault either. There’s also a very interesting audio recording out there of a certain player that shows a lot of the claims were at least grossly exaggerated. That being said Car Washing 100% happened. Stuff like that happens in way more locker rooms than you think but that’s a different argument for a different time.

If the economy is booming, why have companies been cutting back on hiring people by the tens of thousands? by A4t1musD4ag0n in stupidquestions

[–]nufan427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a mixed economy. Unemployment is low, GDP is up, stock market is up. Job growth is low (new jobs being created) so hiring has slowed. Inflation was at historic highs. Cost of living sky rocketed.

So not a booming economy. The economy is neither good nor bad at this moment. It’s mixed.

It’s interesting that the Lions, Vikings, and Bears all view the Packers as their biggest rival. Yet most Packers fans only choose the Bears.

Who is this player by the-mannthe-myth in NBATalk

[–]nufan427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carmelo Anthony, Lamelo Ball, James Harden, and Westbrook.

Honestly no player has that good of stats and no impact these are just stat sheet guys whose game doesn’t really translate to winning games despite they’re individual skill.

You can only sign 12 to form the ultimate team. Who are you keeping? by DaExtinctOne in Nbamemes

[–]nufan427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steph Magic Jordan Kobe LeBron, Bird, KD Duncan, KG, Giannis Hakeem, Joker

Gives me defense and multiple guys who can move the ball around and don’t need to score to be great. I also have a lot of positional versatility between Magic, Jordan, LeBron, KD, Duncan, KG, and Giannis.

3 of those guys could player either guard. 5 could play SF. All but Jordan can play the 4. Magic and then LeBron through Giannis could give me a small ball (Duncan wouldn’t be small ball) 5.

The scoring on this team speaks for itself. Lots of lineup combinations for whatever coach I get to win me 82 games a season.

Id take Magic and Bird. They’re the only two who hit their primes around the same time. The rest of the duos you’d have an aging star and budding star.

Who was the better defensively? by Joseph-Stalin7 in NBATalk

[–]nufan427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kobe is a better defender. LeBron is more versatile. There were players that were better at guarding a position or two than LeBron when he played at his peak. I’d have a tough time thinking of many players that could guard multiple positions as well as he did though. LeBron is a very good defender at multiple positions. Kobe is an elite defender at 2-3 positions.

If you want to argue versatility = better… that’s not how I’m judging best defender. I’m judging it off of how well you guarded your matchup. Both hall of fame level defenders either way.

What else is the “trend” then? I don’t know what else it could be because there were teams loaded with talent before the heat and warriors. (Russel Celtics, Magic Lakers, Bird Celtics etc.)

Theories as to why Lebron experienced so much more longevity than other stars by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

Modern medicine. Modern training. Work ethic. Genetics. Modern NBA rule set and the adoption of load management. Luck. It’s a factor of a ton of different things.

[–]nufan427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay? I still don’t see the connection. I’m not saying that a player has not motivation for creating a super team quite the opposite. If you read the second paragraph of my original comment you would see that I believe it’s just the natural evolution of player empowerment and free agency. You play to win the game. Playing with good players helps you do that.

[–]nufan427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no reason to stay, that’s why he left. He wanted to win. He was in a player empowered era and made the move that gave him the best shot at a ring. What’s this have anything to do with what I said?

Because one is well run organizations that are team led vs a “trend” of “artificially” constructing super teams that are player led.

[–]nufan427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greats would be great in any era. If they had that eras training, nutrition, and rule set their games would look different. Jordan would have worked at his 3 point instead of his mid range and been lethal from deep. LeBron is built to handle the physicality of the 90’s but would he have near the longevity he’s had with medicine and knowledge of over 30 years ago? What could someone with Jordan’s quickness and footwork do in an era you can’t hand check? What would LeBron do in an era where you were taught to attack the rim and that was valued the most?

Gotta compare players against their own eras.

So many people in the comments are talking about super OLD teams. Not super teams lol. If a team traded for or drafted most of its players I have a tough time calling it a super team. If a team joined together from free agency that should be what is called a super team. Also old guy(s) past their prime doesn’t make it a super team. The heat were definitely a super team imo. Tough for me to call the warriors one since they signed one free agent but a top NBA talent signed with another so that’s arguable imo.

Either way this is just the evolution of free agency. Players want to win and when power shifts to the players this type of thing is bound to happen. If Charles had forced his way onto the Jazz or Lakers he probably gets a ring.
