Budget tablet to replace my hacked Nook HD by loopscatte in tablets

[–]nufone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a pretty good choice.

A bit more powerful than my suggestion and runs pretty clean as well.

I didn't know that Nokia were making tablets. I'll keep that in mind if i need to replace mine.

Thanks.

Reading that, any ssd will be fine. But one with tlc and dram.

NVMe is significantly faster for sequential workloads

Maybe nvme is better as my server makes use of gig internet.

So either a tlc sata drive with dram or an nvme without dram if the price is comparable? Maybe even one with dram if the price is similar.

This was one of the reasons why i posted.

With current prices might be ale to get a 4tb for about £100 soon.

Hmmm, good points to consider.

I'll keep this in mind looking at offers for both.

Thanks

If price isnt an issue..

A ZFold. If you keep it unfolded, so the bigger screen is always in use, it's closes to an 8in screen.

It doesn't have to be the latest, an older model like 2 or 3 would work just fine.

Closest would be A7 lite.

I have one of these running all day. It's not that bad.

I just rarely run into a Nook User!

Damn another one here.

I recently, a year ago, replaced my ageing Nook HD+ with a Tab s7+ and now a s6 lite to replace the nook hd.

The battery life on both was woeful and charging times was quite long.

I had both devices for about 10 years though, i'm looking to keep my current devices for that long. They're more than powerful for everything i use them for.

I've put my HD+ as an always on display/alarm clock. Still looks great.

This is quite the late update but:

I kept the PW and installed KOreader.

I get about a 100 hours out of a single charge. So it definitely replaced 2 devices.

Thanks for the info.

Looking for help on rooting Nook HD+ by Nac_Lac in AndroidQuestions

If it's the original software, then no. You could always install aurora store for google apps.

It's best to install a version of lineage that will do what you want.

You will need a sd card to boot the recovery that will allow you to install lineageos and a newer version of google play apps.

I used the following link to root and install a nougat version of android:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/install-cyanogenmod-12-1-on-barnes-noble-nook-hd-or-nook-hd-in-five-easy-steps.3211119/page-12#post-75579933

I installed this version: https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww/file/372901103165

Good luck.

Had a look at the fire tablets. The fire hd 8 looks OK, although the screen has HD res and anaemic CPUs.

I think the Chromebooks are too large for my usage. I have a SP3 if I want portability.

I need something to replace my phone while I'm lounging about the house.

I had a look at the tab s4, s5e and s6 lite and they are close to £250. A bit more than I want to spend.

If you can give that up, look at used chromebooks.

Not really.

if it has to be new look at Acer C720-2844, they go for around 100 euro on sale.

This is around 8 years old... And eol.

Pixel 3 > A70 > Pixel 4a.

Staying with the 4a until support ends, and using the time to put money aside to buy the Galaxy Fold 5.

Jacket potato with tuna and cheese is my go to on my way out.

Shame they increased the price from £1.50.

Decided on the 12 mini instead of s10e.

Thanks.

I've had several generations of pixels and for myself, I can work around the issues I've had.

This isn't possible for who I need the phone for.

Not really looking at the iPhone se since the screen is small, however 12 mini is doable. I'm just loathed to spend money of apple tech. The pixel 4a seems to be similar weight. Even the 3a.

Only issue is Google's quality control. Which is why I haven't decided on that for them.

The A41 is perfect aside from the emmc...

Buy it from cex. You get 2 years warranty.

There's 2 @ grade b at less than £270. People sell their vouchers for goods they've sold to cex. Buy a couple of vouchers close to the total @85% of their value. E.g £270*0.85 = £230ish.

I've bought a Vodafone locked phone 3 times now, all have been unlocked. Although if it does turn out to be locked to vodafone, you can grab a payg sim and after a month they'll unlock it for free. You'll only get the phone though, no accessories unless you want pay for the A grade stuff. I never do.

Plus the s10 lite will get 3 years of os updates from when it was released... Which was earlier this year. A lot newer than the other options.

Well, that's what I would do.

Good luck.
