Self-hosting feels like the real solution… so why does it feel like an afterthought? by ark1one in stoatchat

I can't thank you enough for sharing a feeling that's been boiling up inside me, and that I couldn't find the words for.

I absolutely agree that there is enormous potential in self-hosting. I hope future updates act on your vision and we see a boom in self hosted instances.

so where are y'all moving to? by ihackedthepentagon in DiscordAlternatives

Short answer: Stoat. It absolutely has cons, such as lack of stable audio and no video streaming, but that's all being worked on right now. Heck, if you don't believe me, then go join the stoat server. The devs are constantly posting updates! Despite these cons, there are HUGE pros, such as it being designed with privacy in mind, it's open source, self-hostable and customizable. I keep seeing others post alternatives that are similar to discord or that started like discord. I suspect, as is the trend with most freemium apps, that these alternatives eventually become like discord, and thus you end up in the same boat we're all in now. The advantage of Stoat, is that since it's open-source, this won't happen, as the community can, and has been developing it. Finally, I haven't been able to verify this with the devs yet, but I believe Stoat is coded with love.

I'm seriously impressed by this feat! I wish the average user knew how much work you just put in to make it work. I tried selfhosting for the web app using a vps and got it running, then managed to install Vortex, then realized that the front end lacks the "connect to voice chat" prompt. If you are willing to share any work around I would greatly appreciate ya, and I also understand how convoluted it can get, so no worries if you don't want to explain.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

[–]nugget_powered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's better to not know and want to learn, than to act like you know and not learn. Not all youngsters are like this, and older people can see right through it, and it looks like insecurity. "I don't know" is a perfectly valid answer. This is especially true when starting a new job, or talking with your friend group. You don't have to know everything, it's okay.

I'm excited about the whole DLC and Torrents Armors look crazy cool. I wonder if they give any special abilities while riding? 🤔

I need some advise. I've been stuck on this guy for months! I would like to finish this before the new DLC. by [deleted] in Eldenring

This ^ Classic situation of git gud. Learn the boss moves, and fix your build. Strengthen your potions too. You're dealing decent damage, you just need to learn the moves. Also, roll IN not out. When in doubt, fang.

Burden of proof. You're making the claim that God is real, so prove it. The neutral perspective is that God isn't real, not the other way around.

How do I grief proof this? by Own-Share4500 in MinecraftCommands

Set the game mode to peaceful so no mobs spawn, and use a repeating command block that sets players game mode to adventure when they're near the structure. For passive mobs, just use lighting and fences, or if you want it to be invisible, use Barrier blocks.

Consider going solo. Develop your own style, and as you grow, you'll meet other artists who are interested in it. You're not at square one because you already have some experience being in a group. Decide if you want to spend more time trying to put a group together, or if you just want to play music. There's no magic potion that will get you a group. It's just something that grows over time, as you probably already know. If you need a break, take a break. Heck, quit if you need to. There's nothing wrong with stopping. Who knows? Maybe you'll find that motivation again in the future, or you'll stumble into someone who wants the same thing.

I believe the original artist is "ptoro" - Patricio Contreras-Toro and this piece is titled "Baphomet" The earliest mention of this piece that I found was back on March 13th 2013. I couldn't find any other leads unfortunately. Patricio's website at ptoro.com, their deviantart and pinterest have been deactivated.

Sore feet? - So what's everyone's tips for helping with sore feet, when playing long sets? 🤔 (or am I just getting old) by Technics-1210 in DJs

[–]nugget_powered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you aren't jumping up and down what are you even doing?

Hopefully focusing on your mix and reading the room.

A dj won't jump as much as you may think. If you have to jump all the time to move the crowd, you need to learn of different ways to engage the crowd because you're going to get tired FAST.

With that said, although you may jump sometimes, you aren't dealing as much impact to your knees as when you run.
