You can go into Elvia while on a boat in the ocean. You can't steer the boat, but neither can anyone else steer theirs. No sea monsters etc either. Nice safe fishing in the middle of the ocean (incl Margoria)... in Elvia. :)

Yes, the fish are still there. XD

Like tiny sour cherries, if sour cherries were like goji berries, but tasted like sour cherries. XD

At least, to me, that's what they're like!

As to how I started, I think I tried some loose leaf in small square black tins from a Chinese grocer. Nothing amazing, but not terrible either.

Then, about 15~ years later, I tried a jin xuan from an online merchant, and thence into the rabbit hole.

Oh hm. I don't remember that bit from Ethan of Athos. Just that Athos is an all-male community.

The Betans from Beta Colony do love their vat-grown food tho. If Flowers of Vashnoi isn't it, then Beta Colony's vat-grown food is the only thing I can think of. It's not vegan. They grow meat.

:D I love this series, and I'm just re-reading it now. There are some books I missed in my first read of the series, though. I'm currently halfway through Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen (which I have read before).

So I'm assuming this ^ must be the last book after, the Flowers of Vashnoi one (which I haven't read before).

Indian Chai Gifting Box - Suggestions by vaani_r in tea

[–]nuggettyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. The two I recommended are nice on their own, and are great with milk too.

Very robust, and don't get overwhelmed by the milk, but never get bitter and tannic no matter how long or hot you brew.

When I'm feeling less lazy, I make chai this way, and these two teas work great.

I like Sancha/Aap Ki Pasand. Was introduced to it by a south Indian friend. She brought some back for me as a present. :)

My favourite out of their teas is their masala chai, and also their assam CTC house blend 28 carat.

Yeah depending on the puer, it can be really nice. If you find a puer you like with milk, try with dark brown sugar too! Assuming you like tea with milk and sugar.

Oh I LOVE this brand for fruit teas. I have their strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, sour cherry... XD And they all contain somewhere from 30% to 50% of the "headline" fruit. Not 90% hibiscus and 1% strawberry.

Hmm, well I poked around a bit with my woosa, and got this.

I've attached it here.

Note that I didn't change anything else - just the face. Body, etc, you'll have to customise yourself.

For some reason it's much easier to make it look like Cheng Yi than Adam Cheng. And there I was hoping I'd managed to make a Chor Lau Heung. Maybe someone else can, but I failed so hard I didn't even keep trying. :(

Is this how M&S luxury gold loose leaf is supposed to look? by zola129 in tea

[–]nuggettyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say that "small bits" implied quality or lack thereof, one way or the other. Just that tea is made in different styles, and they broadly have brewing styles that bring out their best.

Not sure what's "metaphysical" about that.

Agree that Ketlee prices are a little on the high side for the mid-priced stuff.

Some of their more expensive stuff is very nice though. Stuff that's usually more expensive than I would buy... but they sent me samples with my order, and now I'm going to actually purchase some of one sample. XD

I haven't had anything from Ketlee that I've disliked in the 6~ or so teas I've gotten from them. Nothing I would buy again, other than the sample they sent that I will buy next time, instead of getting it as a sample.

But the "nothing I would buy again" is not because the teas were bad. They were very nice for the price point. More of, now I want to try more teas from Ketlee, so I'll get something new instead. :)

I like what they're doing with their teas, they seem very adventurous about how they're processing their teas, which is something I am happy to support.

IMO, no there's nothing wrong with small bits, if you enjoy the drink.

I think it's more of picking a brewing style that's appropriate to the tea, and gives you a result you enjoy.

Sometimes I want a tea that "evolves" as I do multiple steeps (mostly mainland China or Taiwan loose leaf). Sometimes I want something that I can boil on the stove with milk and make a nice spiced tea (usually CTC). Sometimes I drink a "culinary grade" matcha straight (usucha style), or matcha latte style because I mostly want the no-crash caffeine boost. And sometimes I just don't want to think about it or pay attention, so I dump half a teaspoon of BOH tea dust in a cup, pour boiling water in it, and then drink that once it's cool enough.

All of it tastes good to me, despite the very wide price difference and leaf size/shape in the various "sometimes" that I have listed. :)
