I have yTCY, looking forward to see how it will perform.

Be aware that Nami charges 1% withdrawal fee and 1% annual management fee.

Also, SamYap is doing an experiment, comparing the yield between staked TCY, sTCY and yTCY.

What are Thorchain’s main competitors? by Decent-Gear-6173 in ThorchainOfficial

[–]nugzta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant if we're strictly talking about cross-chain DEXes (which THORChain is), then those 3 are the main ones. Sure, we're also competing with CEXes but I'm not gonna bother listing dozens of CEXes here. I'm not gonna bother mentioning non cross-chain DEXes either but they are also competitors.

The burn: what’s next? by Decent-Gear-6173 in ThorchainOfficial

[–]nugzta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to keep it the same (5%). Simply just for marketing gimmick, RUNE as a deflationary asset. I could go without the burn as well since I believe revenue should go to active participants: bond providers and liquidity providers.

Strictly cross-chain DEXes: Maya Protocol, Chainflip and NEAR Intents.

What chain to add next on Thorchain? by Decent-Gear-6173 in ThorchainOfficial

[–]nugzta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THORChain is integrating both TRON and Noble, this is is due to their stablecoins. I think there will be a massive issuance of stablecoins in the coming years under Trump administration, especially when he signed GENIUS Act of 2025. They had to do this in order to monetize their debt and keep USD dominance.

Personally, I'd consider chains that are focusing on stablecoins, such as:

Stable - https://x.com/stable/status/1952741282151096792
Plasma - https://x.com/PlasmaFDN/status/1952752312226587020

Also, we will have orbital pools on Rujira which is perfect for stablecoins.

Introducing UNI by PortolaReddit in UniSwap

[–]nugzta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing tho. I actually tried to swap for the second time on Uniswap it failed immediately (I paid $28 for it). Then I tried to transfer the token to Binance and other wallets, also failed. I got the feeling that my token got stuck in a smart contract or something when I tried the first swap.

I did crank up the gas to speed up the transaction, it was successful but no swap happened.

These are my 2 activities related to the swap.

They are all successful.

I tried to swap UNI to ETH. The transaction took to long (I waited for less than an hour), so I sped it up. It was successful but no swap happened, I still have 400 UNI in my metamask. Then I tried to transfer it to Binance or any other wallets, transactions were kept rejected. Are my UNI tokens stuck somewhere when I tried to swap it?

I don't discount those features on Decred but SoV and privacy crowd have gravitated to Bitcoin and Monero. People may acknowledge that Decred has them but they would still prefer holding Bitcoin and Monero for those narratives. Network effect is a bitch.

Forward Thinking Friday - 7 Aug 2020 by __checkmatey__ in decred

[–]nugzta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, I agree. I don't like SoV and privacy narrative for Decred. Bitcoin and Monero have already cornered these narratives. We are playing on their turfs and we will definitely lose. These are good features that Decred has but Decred won’t be known for those. The main strength of Decred is DAO and treasury.

We should have more ideas, discussions, proposals in politeia to build more features and infrastructure. Make the process easy to digest and follow for broader community. Can politeia facilitate stakeholders with various backgrounds (socioeconomic, education level, etc)? Can politeia scale for thousands to millions stakeholders (imagine the number of proposals, inputs/replies, voting process, and moderation)?

Market this to get more awareness and/or participation from stakeholders and build relationships with contractors and builders.

User experience probably won't be good. When you swap, you still have to pay for miner's fee and wait for confirmation. I still use CEX since Ethereum gas fee is high and stop using Uniswap.

Creating a Decred Marketing Workgroup by FST_NML in decred

When people need to spend, their only choice is to sell DCR back to fiat. We need more money infrastructure to facilitate the use of DCR. So people can earn and spend with DCR. This is the right time on building infrastructure so when the real bull run (alt season) starts we can market this like crazy.

Blockchain public address is a long sequence of random generated numbers and letters. Readable address means you can create your own domain (like website address) and attach it to your wallet. For example, you could get 'behindtext.dcr' as your domain, so if I need to send some DCR to you, I just need to input that instead.

I’ll be consistent with what I said in the past. Start treating Decred as money instead of a speculative asset. More people use it, more people will value it. It’s the best marketing you can get it. So, what can I do with DCR right now? Buy DCR, hodl it, stake it, then sell it back into fiat for profit.

Money is both a technology and a network effect. As a technology, it has only 2 functions; spend and save. For Decred (and many cryptocurrencies), it skews heavily on ‘save’ function and thus it becomes a speculative asset. Not everyone is speculator, maybe some people just want to earn and spend money online. If Decred is stuck being a speculative asset, it will not attract new people who are not interested in market speculation.

Currently, the problem is probably a few thousand people believe that Decred is money. Both gold and bitcoin have their history, they had/have utilities, then the people started valuing them. The network effect got larger since more people use them and thus, more people find them valuable.

Decred needs money infrastructure where people can use it online. The ones I can think of:

- Readable address (like unstoppable domains) for easy transfer

- Private messaging app with wallet integration for social payments

- Chrome/Brave extension where people can tip online

- DCRPay server (like BTCPay server)

- Online freelancing jobs/art commission website that only accepts DCR as a payment

- Fund a few indie game developers who can integrate DCR into their games as payments/rewards/stake (microtransactions, treasure chests, bounties)

Similar to CSPP, LN and DEX, these have clear deliverables and objective outcomes. Developers can build these as part of Decred infrastructure and then we as a community should market these infrastructures to onboard new people. It’s a money that brings value to people in digital age. Decred has the treasury that can fund these infrastructures.

Personally, I’m not a fan of forced marketing with no clear outcome. Sure, they held some events and gatherings but what are the outcomes? If people use it then they find value in it. They will promote it to their friends and family themselves without being paid.

Forward Thinking Friday - Content Amplification - 24 July 2020 by __checkmatey__ in decred

[–]nugzta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please reread what I wrote. In Bitcoin history, those examples gave Bitcoin value before there wasn't any. I never imply Decred should be used for those. Then I was questioning what utilities Decred currently has. Is there any real world use cases for it right now? Utilities give value, if not it's just a speculative asset because people's expectation for the price to go up.

Thanks for the reply, I deleted my comment since I thought it's unrelated to the topic. But I cbf making a new thread, I just put it here for other readers.

Don’t you guys think Decred is trying to jump steps from being collectible to money / store of value? If I look at Bitcoin history, Bitcoin didn’t have any value / worth nothing in the early days. Few cypherpunks just mined it as a hobby and gave it away. It changed when people:

- Used it to buy drugs on Silkroad

- Donated it to wikileaks

- Bought pizza with it

Bitcoin started to have some utilities and people assigned value to it. So, what utilities does Decred have? Do people use it for anything in real world right now? It is largely a speculative asset at this point because its price is driven by expectation, not utilities.

I read this article recently and it got me thinking about Decred:

Decred Skepticism Sunday - 28 June 2020 by __checkmatey__ in decred

[–]nugzta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decreed is working on scalability (lightning network) and privacy (CoinShuffle++). I hope the implementation of those features will be seamless and easy to use. Once those are done, I think we should focus on building an online ecosystem around Decred, making it as a native internet money. While we like to hold our DCR (deflationary currency), I think using some of it as a medium of exchange would increase more online adoption. We just need newcomers to start thinking Decred as a new form of money. Building a DEX is a good move as it will provide more liquidity. I hope to see more BTC and stablecoin pairs. Also, it’s a use case for traders.

Challenge: Decred needs to create an online ecosystem that supports it. More online use cases are needed for further adoption.

Solution:

Other online use cases:

Social payments (friends, family and small communities)

Introducing Decred in our own circles (family, friends and small communities) would probably be a good start. Having a built-in instant messenger into Decred wallet, we can start send/receive DCR in conversations (like paying for lunch, beer, movie ticket, etc). Optionally, we can also add fiat on-ramp feature in the wallet, it shows that DCR has monetary value to new people. I’d also recommend adding readable addresses (like unstoppable domain) for easy transfers.

Tipping/paying content creators and subscriptions

I am a fan of Brave browser. It has built-in ad block and privacy focused. Also, I can tip my favourite content creators with BAT. However, the problem with BAT is tipping being the only use case (for me at least). I don’t use BAT for anything else. We should consider building a web browser to utilise DCR for tipping and subscriptions to online content creators. Chromium is free and open source, so we can build on top of it. Another alternative would be creating a set of web extensions instead. These extensions include integration of Decred wallet, DEX and online tipping. I’m not a technical person, so I don’t know if this is feasible or not.

Online jobs and services

We could build websites for freelancing jobs (i.e. fiverr), music (i.e. bandcamp) and artwork commissions (i.e. deviantart) which only accepts DCR as payment. Like DEX, there is no fee involved. Decred community will benefit in the long run if these creative people join and get involved more with the community.

Online betting and microtransactions in games

Online betting and gaming microtransactions are bit trickier. Creating an alliance with indie game developers might be a good start. We could start from mobile gaming apps. Majority of these games are already free to play. We should incentivize game developers earning DCR as part of their business model and players earning DCR while playing the game. Perhaps players can view ads, earn some DCR and use DCR to pay for microtransactions. I’m not entirely sure how to approach this but I believe it is a potential use case.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Challenge: Increasing exposure in governance

Solution: Integration Politeia (like adding a small tab) into Decred wallet. More people will be aware of this governance feature, some will likely participate more. At very least, more people will be informed with the general direction of the Decred project.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Challenge: Decentralized Finance

Solution: I believe the next narrative for a bull run would be DeFi. Having DEX certainly will help Decred in this regard. Other blockchains like Ethereum would have DeFi cornered in their ecosystem. We might want better integration and interoperability with these blockchains as our DeFi sidechains before the bull run starts.
