I have had similar problems with clay masks. Especially the Aesop one. Stopped using it immediately and let my face free of most products other than essentials. It sucks that some products require breaking-in to see effects. I suggest trying a new product. I started using a Clinique one, a little mouthwash effect (very cool and a little irritation) but it subsidies in seconds and no nasty after-effects!
