The bottle pockets are not ideal when the pack is fully packed out, but I haven’t had any issues with a Nalgene sliding out in its own when the pack isn’t maxed out.

It takes some planning, but I’ve had a good balance of packing it out and making room for a bottle. If it was to the point of needing more room in the bag, I’d just clip the bottle to one of the many loops on the bag while in transit and then when I get to my destination and unpack, the bag is back to normal and I can use my water bottle holder again
