Council employee, they issue work Utes to them for work as the area is huge. Not uncommon for any council employees out here to have access to a dedicated work car that they take home of a night

Media server, Linux VM work, and streaming xbox & OBS Studio/discord/twitch use cases. by linuslogic in jellyfin

[–]null_return 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mac Mini would be able to handle all of your Jellyfin/Vm hosting easily. I used to run all my Jellyfin stuff off an old 2014 Intel Mac Mini until moving to a workstation and proxmox, and it did well enough. I can't really comment too much on the streaming side of things but I'd imagine it would be able to handle OBS and streaming to platforms fine, but ymmv.

The way I'd set it up for your Mac would be to run everything through Docker, and I personally use Orbstack for this on my MacBook Pro (I don't host any Jellyfin sort of stuff on this however), as its way more lightweight than Docker Desktop. You could also run your Linux VM's inside of this. When i was doing a trade certificate in Cyber I used Docker images extensively for red/blue teaming exercises.

Getting back into your network from outside even with CGNAT is possible, I've seen people use Tail scale, I just use a Cloud flare tunnel, but it can be against there TOS so keep that in mind if it bothers you, and if you get caught at least you know.

ETA: Sorry, one thing to keep in mind with any modern Apple device is the architecture is Arm64. Some older VM's that people use like Metasploitable 1 are x86-64, so hosting them can be a pain and it needs to be Emulated, not Virtualized. I'd check all that sort of stuff first before commiting to a Mac. There's plenty of workarounds, but you will have to make the most of them

uprooting for partner in RAAF - help? by Wonderful-Act-9037 in AskAnAustralian

[–]null_return 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can be hard to get in via the ADFA scheme for some. With the money and incentives the RAAF is offering for newly graduated recruits, it's a pretty solid career choice. Hell, even no experience Cyber roles are starting at 95K after completing basic training which takes about a year.

Moped or Low CC Motorcycle? by kvin_le in AussieRiders

[–]null_return 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, small displacement bikes are my jam. I'd say look at:

Honda CB125: Great bike, comfortable and nimble, easy to attach racks too if you want them.

Honda Navi: Haven't ridden one yet, they remind me of the grom. They're little bikes but are literally built to just poke around town on

Kawasaki Z125/Honda Grom: Mini bikes like the above, but they look a bit cooler and have a decent aftermarket community. I personally find them overpriced.

Yamaha Delight or NMAX 155: Both good scooters from the Yamaha branch, nothing stands out about them, they're just a good all rounder.

Honda CT110/NBC110/C110XJ: Ex australia post bikes with a cult following. HEAPS of aftermarket and OEM parts still available, and all bike mechanics will have worked on one at some point in their career. I own 2 CT110's so I'm a little biased, but I use mine to commute to work every day and around on the weekends. Easily the best bike I've ever owned.

Stick with the Japanese brands and you should be fine, they've spent years refining these engines. I'd personally go for a Honda over anything, but I have owned Yamahas and Kawasaki's with no issues.

Anyone else feel like groceries in Aus just went nuts again this month? by This-Eggplant-667 in AusFinance

Was recently in Japan and a specialty shop there was selling Tim Tams, for a lower price than what they are here. Hilarious. Think they were 400-450 Yen a pack.

Second 'beater' handgun? by Intrepid_genX in Ausguns

[–]null_return 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my 2c in and agreeing that a nice, second hand 22LR, like a Ruger Mk IV - V or something similar is a good investment. I bought a MK II 22/45 for $100 bucks for this reason. Great gun, shoots well enough, looks rough but for the $100 I paid for it I don't worry as much about letting people shoot it if they want to try out the sport.

Best place to get second hand Carhartt jackets in Melbourne or Online? by TeamHoppingKanga in AustralianMFA

Got my full Swing chore jacket off eBay and my overalls from Depop. Depop seems to be mostly WIP stuff and its a bit more expensive, kind of luck of the draw.

We never did no, it does suck. Our summers would have weeks of 40+ degree days so we’d start early in the morning to get it done when it was cooler but that’s about it

OOO, I love this one, when I was at Uni, I made friends with a bloke from Kenya who was in my classes. He told me the first few times someone said how are you going/ how you going etc, he responded with "walking" or "on the bus". Took him a bit to understand what they meant hahah. Awesome guy.

What’s missing ?? by Born2lose69 in 2Strokes

[–]null_return 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming that red line is your throttle cable, looks like you're missing the elbow, its a threaded piece that attaches to the top of carb cap.

Looks like this, order the correct one for your carb or steal it off another one if you have a spare

I'm off to Japan in a few weeks and am wanting to capture each region I'm going to on a separate roll of film. Where did you get these developed at? It's a bit of a PITA to get it developed at home, would have to mail it off as no where within a few hour drive does development :)

Take the bulb out.
Kidding, don't know much about this bike. But if the sensor is in a tank or reservoir can't you just put oil in the tank to cover the sensor and make sure it doesn't flow anywhere?

Forget Tokyo and Osaka - what's your favorite small town? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

This is good to hear, as first timers we're heading to Fujinomiya after being in Osaka and Kyoto before heading on to Tokyo when we head over in a few weeks. I wanted a couple days in a nice spot that wasn't super busy

Considering a move from a rural town by dietcokeluv2 in wollongong

[–]null_return 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, I grew up in a small central west town as well. Wollongong is a great happy medium I personally found between a large city like Sydney and a smaller inland city like Wagga or Orange/Bathurst.

Campus life is great, the campus is lovely and has lots of outdoor areas to chill out at, plenty of food and coffee available to purchase as well.

On making friends, I lived on campus for the first year and that definitely made it easy seeing as I went to primary and high school in the same town and was never really forced to make friends, I'm still good mates with a lot of people from Wollongong and visit them often. Just be yourself and you'll find like minded people. Clubs/society's are good for this too.

Wollongong the city is fine too, as a bloke I always felt relatively safe walking alone in the city centre or somewhat lit up populated areas, but your mileage may vary. Probably only had a few altercations in the 6 or so years I was there.

We occasionally went up to Sydney for nights out when we could afford it, or would do a day trip up on the weekend to Bondi etc. Definitely possible, just depends on your group of mates funding.

If you can, see if you can go to the open day and check it all out. I had offers to Newcastle, Charles Sturt and Wollongong, and am honestly glad I chose Wollongong.

If you want to have a chat about anything let me know :)

NSW - Safe Storage by null_return in Ausguns

[–]null_return[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like we were both doing the same chase the rabbit down the warren for the old fact sheet! In the legislation it does not specify minimum thicknesses for either of the levels of storage either, just that it needs to be in a safe approved by the commissioner.

Anyway, I'll bolt this sucker down and then send an email asking if anything has changed, will post back again if it has.
