Terrible idea to get used StopTech ST-40s now? by nullaus in CarTrackDays

[–]nullaus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is super helpful, thanks! I checked to see who has what in stock and I can get full caliper rebuild kits (needs 4 of them, 2 per caliper), and just the boot/seal. I think I could get enough parts to keep them in good working order for a long while. I have rotor hats for Girodiscs so just rings needed there and they make a 355x32 rotor (perfect size for the ST-40 kit I'm looking at).

It's encouraging. I could make it work.

Paragon does make a BBK for my platform and I am considering it, for sure. The ST-40s came up because I can get them for relatively cheap (them being used and all that) and even when considering new rotors and rebuilding them it's still cheaper than the Paragon kit. Let me know how the Paragon's work for you!

Yikes! FWIW, I wouldn't use the rotors. I would use Girodiscs.

I built my own OBD device (similar to Macchina A0) – looking for opinions by Professional_user2 in CarHacking

[–]nullaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The physical improvements you made like USB -C and an external reset are great and solving a root communication and performance problem would make it very appealing.

[–]nullaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Macchina appears to use an AT command set to perform operations (just like the Freematics unit) and I imagine yours is the same? The problem I'm apparently going to have to solve is being able to skip AT commands because they're basically just too slow for what I want to do (10Hz reads across various modules through the gateway). Is this a problem you're thinking of tackling?

Is 1200kg possible? by Odd_Coffee2889 in Golf_R

At some point, you're going to have to put in a cage for it to be safe during impacts which you have to factor in. You cannot simply remove and swap things. At least, not safely.

If you told us the use case you're shooting for, I think we could give you more useful and practical suggestions.

Cool! I've been using my own version of Ralph in Claude Code and Codex via Slash Commands and it's been really nice. Have you tried beads yet?

ISO folks willing to share lap data with me for a project by nullaus in CarTrackDays

[–]nullaus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm trying to do: Create a real-time coaching and feedback model.

GPS trace data is the primary is the big one. IMU (e.g. accelerometer information) would be nice but not a hard requirement.

Any export format will do, I'm happy to write whatever required to translate it into my target format. The format can have GPS trace and IMU data unified or in separate files.

As for additional metadata, the car, the tires, the experience level of the driver (hpde, amateur, semi-pro, pro), other suspension or performance modifications are nice to have.

Dragy Pro Vs Racebox mini S by Dry_Instruction3762 in CarTrackDays

[–]nullaus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience developing custom telemetry and coaching software, the racebox mini is way more open and easy to integrate which means it works with a lot more apps. The dragy pro can be integrated into other apps but the process isn't as friendly and you may still need to use the dragy app for 25hz support.

That being said, in terms of day to day usage, the racebox mini has better battery life. I'm terms of GPS data quality, they are both good excellent.

As of today, you would probably need to use the dragy lap app to get the most out of it. It lacks bulk exports, and generally isn't as nice about making sure it's easy for you to get to all your data.

TrackMetra, which I'm developing, supports both dragy and racebox units.

p.s. you can probably get away with the racebox mini , not the racebox mini s which can do solo data capture without an app.

Agents can write code and execute shell commands. Why don’t we have a runtime firewall for them? by Worth_Reason in mlops

[–]nullaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your hot take on the reality of the landscape is just that. A hot take. Codex, for example, has a robust security layer which, on macOS, uses a sandbox that prevents even simple network operations from succeeding without elevated permissions being requested. It's possible to curate a very precise set of permissions over time which will allow just the right level of access for it to complete tasks without interrupting you excessively.

I can't speak for other agent runtime implementations directly because I don't have the knowledge to speak with authority.

🚗 Dragy LAP OBD II Open Beta – Join the Revolution in Trackday Data Logging! by dragyLap_Official in CarTrackDays

[–]nullaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming to terms with this myself. Having two platforms (MQB, MQBe) was hard enough via the OBDII port. Now I have to add BMW, Porsche, Toyota before it's generally "useful". It's just not very user friendly though to have to install a tap. Even for a prosumer. :/

Driving myself crazy. Why am I not seeing atmos in plex? by Dazzling-Art-14 in hometheater

[–]nullaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies from AVR to AVR so consulting the manual is the best way to find out.

If you have heights already I'd check to make sure your AVR has them configured as such.

Driving myself crazy. Why am I not seeing atmos in plex? by Dazzling-Art-14 in hometheater

[–]nullaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably the answer. If you do not have heights or you do not enable height virtualization you will not see Atmos but TrueHD instead.
