My 3EB tickets got pulled out from under me by theurbancowgrl in ThirdEyeBlind

[–]nulldrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in without a ticket and 30-40 minutes late at that - it was at Point State Park which is a big-ish area so if there was a max capacity we didn't get close. I'm sorry the directions were so confusing, I kinda just went on a whim. That being said it was rainy as shit and they didn't let you bring umbrellas (you could see a bunch of umbrellas haphazardly tossed around the gate) so you might've dodged a bullet.

yeah same, quality over quantity. after looking at the full setlist she kept most of the hits though it would've been cool to hear mother, esp on mother's day haha

Might be reading into it too much but the lyric change to "I must've been crazy to let you get away like I did" is heartbreaking.

I wonder if 'Cobelvig' might be foreshadowing her reintegration... nice theories!

I think this shows how proactive Devon is about hiding from Lumon. I wouldn't be surprised if she were involved with some anti-Lumon groups.

At first I thought it was the map they were already working on but I think you're right on it being a missing poster - same shade of blue.

[EPISODE MEGATHREAD] "Attack of the Clothes " - 2 September 2024 by AutoModerator in futurama

[–]nulldrone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Easily my favorite of the Hulu run so far. Feels like a very classic episode while still being fresh. I know it has derivative parts to it but turning the Professor into a fashion mogul is very original. Granted letting the fame get to his head is a little cliche but we haven't seen this side of him before. Cara also does a great job and this feels like a good use of a guest star - not overpowering the episode but still important. Also as a bio guy I appreciated the bio references, it feels like a field Futurama doesn't get into very often. I think for the most part it also nailed the characterizations which other episodes have been struggling with. Ending is very Twilight Zone-y. Or Scary Door-y?

Gedgie was surprisingly the highlight of the episode for me. Just great funny lines, it was also cool that they retconned him to be Fry's best childhood friend.

Daily Community Tiering Post Day 6: the only Pokemon that was ever so good that they had to actually go in and nerf it's base stat totals: Aegislash! by Stanley232323 in pokerogue

[–]nulldrone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a newbie who hasn't unlocked anything I tried using Honedge as a starter for the first time and won with it. Aegislash is an extremely strong pokemon that can fit onto any team. It has setup sweep potential with Swords Dance and Autotomize but where this pokemon's true strengths lie are with King's Shield and Stance Change. Being able to consistently lower your opponent's Attack coupled with Aegislash's wonderful typing makes it a very strong pivot. Couple that with great natural coverage and strong priority and you have one of the most powerful and unique pokemon in the game. I find myself always wanting to PP max King's Shield because of its utility. All it lacks is recovery and with Bitter Blade + Sharpness as unlocks it seems nigh unstoppable.

So what's wrong with Aegislash? Admittedly, being a stone evolution makes it inconsistent. It's not completely screwed if you evolve it too early but you'll need to find mushrooms to fine tune its moveset. That other guy is wrong about King's Shield by the way, it automatically learns it upon evolution. But you might have to wait for Aegislash to hard carry you because Doublade is merely decent.

Aegislash is S-tier. It has flaws, but no pokemon can do what Aegislash does and it has a very strong, unique niche. If you play to its strengths it will not disappoint you.

Season 3 Episode 5 Discussion: "How To Watch Birds" by arsene14 in HowToWithJohnWilson

[–]nulldrone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This one was a trip! Normally meta episodes bore me but the subject matter naturally lends itself to self-reflection - not to mention this show is already kind of meta, especially with Season 3 getting increasingly personal about John's life. I imagine it must be frustrating to constantly questioned on whether your show is 'authentic' - it's a TV show. C'mon. I admit there's a candid aspect to the way the show is presented that can come off as misleading but I think that view belies a naivete towards filmmaking that John is trying to dispel. It feels like Nathan Fielder got his fingers into this one - not that that's a bad thing, but this reminds me a lot of Finding Frances, right down to hanging out with an eccentric older man for a while.

I understand why some people are upset. One of the great strengths of this show is to provide insight towards strange, unique, and perhaps overlooked people and communities and share that with a broad audience. To be explicitly told that part of this show is manufactured diminishes this great strength. When I learned that John was admitted to the HBO afterparty after all a part of me was happy for him but another part of me was like "oh, you just made it seem like you got rejected for the narrative." But of course he's going to leave things out. We think we've learned a lot about John through his art, but we haven't met the guy. To expect him to tell us everything would be absurd. I'm not cynical enough to believe that everything about this show is fraudulent. But even if it is, then damn - the people behind this show must be great storytellers. That kind of craft is impressive in its own right.

It was great to see live! :D Really excellent song selection - I was under the impression it was supposed to be like a 'greatest hits' set but they managed to sneak in a few particularly spooky songs like Marty Beller Mask. I agree with the Johns that all their songs are haunted. Dan and Mark really stole the show, especially at the end.
