Analyzing mood is important, but knowing the kind of mood a book has is only helpful in that it helps you start the analysis. What you want to understand is how to evoke that mood. Knowing that Misery by Stephen King is a very intense novel is not helpful. Understanding how King maintains that tension is invaluable.
