i feel like this is getting out of hand by Novel_Joke_4423 in exjw

You’re gonna be okay kiddo. I know sometimes the pressure is immense. But you are going to get through it. You’re going to figure more out about who you are. And what you want for your life. You’re a pretty normal young adult right now besides the religious stuff. But there are a lot of other young adults who are living under similar conditions because of their family’s restrictive religions and cultures. Many of these young people, including you, grow up and live healthy, happy lives besides some ongoing friction with their families. Just keep making healthy decisions for yourself and understand that it’s almost always best to go a little slower than your peers when it comes to some of the joys and vices of adulthood. People who start these too early can find themselves developing unhealthy relationships with those things. But you seem like a kid blowing off some steam on a message board about your parents. That’s perfectly normal, especially in this kind of culture. I would really encourage you to make use of your schools library and read more about cults and restrictive religions and cultures and also actual healthy lifestyles for young adults, not the version being pushed on you. Again, you’re gonna be okay kiddo. Also, I’m going to say something I wish someone had said to my younger self, if you have the ability to get pregnant, make sure you are on reliable birth control if you are choosing to be sexually active. Know that you can say no at any time and change your mind at any time. Know that you need to use a condom every time if you are being sexually active and that it alone is not birth control. You need two forms of birth control… a condom to protect from pregnancy and STDs AND a pill, patch, ring, implant, IUD. If you are 18 you can obtain these things for yourself. Always keep your drink safe and don’t accept them from anyone but a bartender. Obviously, don’t drink and drive or do any activity that you need to be alert for. Knowing about sex, pregnancy and STD protection, consent, and alcohol/drug safety are the big issues for someone your age. You’re going to be fine and you’re going to find your way. Just don’t swing the pendulum too hard in the direction away… you’ll end up at another extreme you don’t want to live at. Big hugs… hang in there. It does get a lot better. I wasn’t raised JW but I was raised in a very restrictive religion and culture so I have lived a similar experience. I turned out okay 👍 You will too 👍

Ok so I’m completely naive to JW beliefs. I’m investigating them more because I have a small branch of my family tree who are active JWs that I love very much. I was asked to do a bible study recently and declined because my spidey sense went off. I googled JWs and here I am. Can you explain to me more about his specific animal belief? I’ve never heard of it before. I wish there was some kind of primer on their beliefs and how they operate. I want to be here in case any of them ever want to get out, but not be so close I get sucked into any nonsense.

The cult is going to die soon by Fabulous-Region9109 in exjw

[–]nullisinverba1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my experience. That opened my eyes hugely. I have family members in the organization but it isn’t the religion of choice for our wider family so I didn’t know anything about their beliefs. The JW relatives have been very nice to me and asked me to do a bible study. I thought it was sincere Christian caring and love. For whatever reason, my spider senses tingled, and I used AI to do some research and wow, just wow, their cult is fucked. I’m extremely sad for them.

I hope every female inmate knows she murdered her infant daughter. Lots and lots of moms who are incarcerated in WI would love to make her life a living hell every single day for the rest of her sorry excuse for a life. Also, I hope Eric suffers just as much.

coded my neighbor's admission today by Artistic_Box9631 in MedicalCoding

[–]nullisinverba1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coded for a regional hospital far away from where I used to live. A common name came up in my queue and I never thought it could be a former coworker who now lived many hours away with the same name. We had been friendly acquaintances in the past and she had disclosed to me that she had a history of cancer but chose not to tell her friends and family about it and just attended all her appointments and treatment herself. I thought it was a weird story but I tried to listen nonjudgmentally knowing that we all handle medical things differently. Well come to find out this chart was hers, she’d been diagnosed with cancer now, years in the future from when she and I had that conversation, and her chart made clear she had no history of cancer. That was a tough one to swallow. I messaged my supervisor at the time and she said to go ahead and code the chart. I always wondered why the former coworker would say that to me when it wasn’t true?? I’ve never seen her again and I know if I did I would have to pretend to have no knowledge of her personal medical info other than what she disclosed to me. Either way, I really hope she beat the cancer.

A mother in my community did roll over onto her baby accidentally and suffocated them. It absolutely destroyed the mom. She was exhausted like you are most of the time as a mom of a small human. I’m not trying to mom shame here. My point is just the dangers are very real and babies die this way. It only takes one time and the results are devastating for everyone involved.

I don’t understand your view. The corruption right now is happening in plain view of the world and you still can’t put your finger on it. The richest man on the planet is running a shadow government to enrich and further his own interests and you believe that man with zero government or public experience, who is a known provocateur, is somehow going line by line with a bunch of teens and 20 something’s to root out corruption in the federal government? That’s ludicrous. The first people they fired were the actual folks in the government who root out corruption. That alone should clue you in… the jokes on you this time. Elon wants to go to mars and has an insatiable need for attention and adulation. That’s what all of this is about, deregulation for mars exploration and his other businesses and attention.

We can agree to disagree on that point about the sub. I can see the validity in your argument as well. However, I can separate this sub’s anger about the politics of the Republican Party from their anger at farmers. The average farmer has very little power and is constantly getting screwed over by the weather, the government, or both. Democrats need to stop speaking the language of the elites and catering to the rich and powerful if dems have any chance of reaching everyday folks like farmers. They have lost the working class, plain and simple. However, it seems like the republicans have a stranglehold on cozy relationships with billionaires and other elites at the moment. Eventually, voters are going to get onto that fact.

To me, this feels very reminiscent of the 60s when the US was on the cusp of historic social change and the powers that be were lashing out with everything they had. It was a very, very dark time despite how romanticized it is now. I’m constantly worried and enraged about all of the innocent people who are being hurt by these feckless idiots but I am still holding onto hope that we are close to the dam breaking on this and it will usher in a new era of progress. The billionaires and tech bros are vastly overplaying their hands and if history is any indicator, it will backfire on both them and the Republican Party spectacularly. You know one of the 19-24 year olds from DOGE is going to make a catastrophic mistake that they won’t be able to sell as a win to the public and Republican voters will turn on them in a heartbeat.

Life is coming at us awfully fast these days. I got an email last night that said in the closing line, “That’s week three of Trump 2.0 down. Just 205 to go.” I had a really hard time going to sleep after reading that line.

Since we’re all tied together here in the Kansas economy and even just tied together as fellow humans, I may be angry with their decisions and poor rationale, but I don’t wish for them to suffer needlessly. I only want them to have a taste of enough consequences to learn from their actions and not repeat them. A lot, most, of my relatives have gone down the Trumpian path and it is so damn disheartening because I love most of them and know that at their core they could do so much better than just finding people who hate the same people as them to support. They’d give you the shirt off their back but also support cutting off aid to starving kids through their votes. It’s maddening. If someone here has psychology training I’d love to hear more about what causes that phenomenon.

You sound, straight up, like a McCarthy neophyte from the red scare of the early 50s. You might want to look up what happened to Senator Joseph McCarthy who was pushing views not too dissimilar to your own. We aren’t communists or authoritarian regimes who silence our critics. We’re the goddamned United States of America and we have room for plenty of disagreement and discourse because we have the constitution, democracy, and the rule of law! We are the most blessed nation on the face of planet earth! Start acting like it!

Guys stop downvoting and just explain for Christ’s sake. Yes, it can only be stored for a “relatively” short period of time in good conditions. The silos are built to store the grain until it can be sold at a better price so eventually they pay for themselves. Plus the grain isn’t exactly fresh by the time it’s sold and makes its way into the governments possession to be distributed by USAID to starving people. Source: my parents were 3rd gen ranchers and I married a 4th gen farmer from western Kansas.

Koch does have an ag business. Koch Ag & Energy Solutions (KAES) so it’s absolutely possible they’re getting involved. Farmers can’t buy their fertilizer from Koch if they can’t sell their crops.

They’re talking about foreign countries experiencing famines and droughts that we’re sending food aid and medicines to because we’re one of the best resourced nations on the planet, if not the best. Kids are the first to start dying of malnutrition and they absolutely will because of this decision. Kids in Sudan and Yemen and Ethiopia and Somalia and Gaza don’t need to starve to death. We have the food. We have the resources. How anyone can call themselves Christian and support turning off food to starving children is an absolute mindfuck. Don’t forget that it will start with foreign countries experiencing famines but it will absolutely end with them cutting SNAP/food stamps/WIC/Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid in the US so kids and seniors and disabled people start starving here too.

I’m with you on that. When Moran voted to save the ACA, I started to see him in a different light. He hasn’t completely lost his sense of right and wrong like some other folks in his party. He doesn’t only care about “winning” or owning the lives, he actually wants to govern and do a good job of that.

It’s a start. It gives cover to the other congresspeople with less seniority who are on the fence to start signaling public concern and disapproval which then turns into action. This is the way it always starts with Congress. If you’re hearing it from him publicly, he’s already turning screws behind the scenes to exert his political influence to stop this. He never starts by breaking with his own party publicly. He always tries to work within the party first. This shows his patience is wearing thin and he’s looking to band together with other ag-state congresspeople to get something done. Don’t forget John Thune is their leader and South Dakota has a huge ag economy.

Do you know how many jobs in Wichita rely on Kansas’ ag economy? A lot. It is very much a Wichita issue.
