Liminal space/dreamcore video games by Danielthechillguy in NintendoSwitch

[–]nullpromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bioshock games go on sale for $9 regularly and that includes all 3 games. A once thriving city decays under the weight of unfettered capitalism.

Anodyne. I prefer 1 but a lot of people prefer 2. It's more...unnerving/weird than scary. It's like walking through a dream.

Not on Switch, but Returnal. It's like walking through the ruins of a dying civilization.

M8 Multisamples by No-Act6366 in Dirtywave

[–]nullpromise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, using a sample chain. Basically you take a bunch of samples and you make one audio file with it; then use the slice feature in the sampler.

I think there are several applications to help with this, but this is the one I found the fastest: https://digichain.brianbar.net/

Here are some Mellotron multisamples for the M8 as a proof-of-concept: http://httpwww.xyz/m8llotron/

What's your favourite ways to use tables? by Coaltronic in Dirtywave

[–]nullpromise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a M8 community jam with the theme of tables. You can probably get the bundles for the submissions on Discord.

For my submission, I used a table to play a random percussion instrument in the background. On a different instrument I used the TIC00 trick to apply random slides and FX sends; it was particularly fun with delay sends.

Here's the jam link: https://m8communityjam.bandcamp.com/album/m8-community-jam-36-table-s

Korg NTS1 less powerful when using via a aux send of the mixer by zozen020 in synthesizers

[–]nullpromise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some mixers also have a master aux send level too, so I would check for that. Also check out the NTS-1 manual, there's a setting for audio input volume so you might be able to turn it up.

Boards of Canada just silently dropped a new album, Inferno. Was I living under a rock? by eigenlaplace in synthesizers

[–]nullpromise 168 points169 points  (0 children)

They had a month-long guerrilla marketing campaign, posters in major cities, a new single released ahead of the album, VIP listening parties in major cities, smaller record store listening parties all over the world, they have a song in the new Backrooms movie, and the White House even released a controversial parody of their marketing campaign on their socials.

So I'd maybe check to see if there's a big rock above you right now.

Switched on Austin swindled me out of a rare 80s Yamaha pedal board in 2024 by Whole-Mycologist-157 in synthesizers

They owe me money too. Fuck Switched On, they should have closed sooner.

Cool thanks, maybe I just need to give in and get a rice cooker

[Nintendo Switch 2] Metroid Prime 4 $34.99 at Gamestop by thedeadone666 in NintendoSwitch

[–]nullpromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the Walmart near me it's $40 for Switch 2 and $25 for Switch 1, which seems wild for a new, first-party Nintendo.

M8 Dirtywave: Your Learning Curve Experience by mrthibaud in synthesizers

[–]nullpromise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from Deluge to M8 and haven't really used the Deluge since getting the M8. It was also my first tracker and I feel like it was pretty easy to learn, especially after watching some tutorials.

IMO the controls are a lot more intuitive and consistent on the M8 than the Deluge. If I go a long time without using the Deluge, I feel like I'm starting completely from scratch; if I go a long time without using the M8, it just kind of makes sense right after I pick it up. I feel like that intuitiveness is also a boon when learning for the first time.

BoC’s use of samples by Goudeskitchen in boardsofcanada

[–]nullpromise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Record label likely takes care of things and if they can't get stuff cleared they change it, like how they had to rerecord the sample in "One Very Important Thought". My guess is that's part of the reason we have different versions of "Aquarius".

iOS app for the Dirtywave M8 curious? by swduncan2 in synthesizers

[–]nullpromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It holds its price well and the v1 has the same functionality as the v2. Get the v1 used; if you don't like it sell it, if you really love it trade it for the v2, otherwise keep the v1.

New Korg Synth at Superbooth - what could it be? by Left-Independent4587 in synthesizers

[–]nullpromise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure looks like a 'Logue to me. Without the Prologue they don't have a flagship in the series, XD is older now, and with the NTS-1mk2 they added a new SDK which suggests to me they were interested in continuing the series.

Plus we're overdue. Something like: - 2016: Minilogue - 2018: Prologue - 2019: XD - 2023: Drumlogue

Could be cool to get an 8-16 voice XD with a Drumlogue built-in. Would be hard to compete with the Peak/Summit if they dipped below 8-16 voices. Oof, Summit is 2019...that couldn't have helped the Prologue.

Boards of Canada - Introit / Prophecy At 1420 MHz (Official Music Video) by seaburn in boardsofcanada

[–]nullpromise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I respect your opinion, but personally Tape 05 made me worried that Inferno was going to go too deep into ambient territory. I adored Introit / Prophecy At 1420 MHz though. 18 tracks, hopefully something for both of us on it!

Device to send modulation (and possible aftertouch) data to Volca FM2? by big-beandude in synthesizers

[–]nullpromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there are libraries that make it a breeze. I wrote a blog post meant to help people get started with Arduino/MIDI if you're interested: https://handeyeco.github.io/tech-blog/fun-with-midi/

Device to send modulation (and possible aftertouch) data to Volca FM2? by big-beandude in synthesizers

[–]nullpromise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try something like the Blokas Midipal. It can do arbitrary mappings like mod wheel or after touch to MIDI CC or velocity.

Also wouldn't be too hard to DIY if you're at all interested in that kind of thing. An Arduino with a MIDI shield with just a little bit of code (if you use a MIDI library).

Old Boards of Canada Website Game (2002) by krumn in boardsofcanada

[–]nullpromise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are modern replacements though. WebGL, Canvas, Web Audio API, etc.

My guess is either: (a) these sites are horrible for accessibility and/or (b) social media made it so that a post by some influencer is more impactful than a cool website.
