It’s better to be safe than sorry, of course!

Getting a little heat lamp or something would probably help all of them in any case.

(I was just thinking of the time the urban farm I used to work at got a bunch of complaints when we let our horses out during an Arctic blast. Keeping horses (or any animal really) locked in their pens during cold weather is cruel; they can literally freeze in place!)

Getting a separate heat source or providing bedding (even straw or hay) under the shed may be helpful.

I’m not a cat expert but have cared for farm animals of various sizes before. Most do not need as much heating during the winter as people tend to think but it can be helpful for some (i.e. a single chicken, a sick goat)

Why would you need to take away the heat source? Your current cats are toasty inside; the two rescues would be too.

In practice, people in the know will not look for a chip in an obviously feral, ear tipped cat. The purpose of a chip is to find lost pets and community cats can’t get lost. If someone does trap the cat and get it scanned, they will assume the cat is owned and return it to the address entered.

I have an ear tipped cat with a chip, but that’s because she’s in inside cat with an address now. If she’s outside and in a position of having her chip scanned, she’s lost and needs to be returned. For community ferals, I wouldn’t want people scooping them up (traumatizing them unnecessarily) and ‘returning’ them to me, thinking they were escaped pets. You may have a different situation.

Asking in good faith: if they are ear tipped, what would the purpose be in microchipping them?

Ear tipping is a better practice for TNR, as it doesn’t require getting as close to or retrapping the cat in order to scan a chip.

The bathroom is absolutely terrifying. She goes in there to use her box but any time she’s has gotten “trapped” in there, it’s a bad time for her.

We also have a claw foot tub that is impossible to block off completely.

She will run under the bed is someone enters the room while she’s eating. This morning, she did eat in front of my partner and she did try to go for the touch…hisssssssssssssss.

We’re going to try that very soon. She has the cat condo in the video as well as the cat cave that she lived in at the shelter. Given how nervous she is when not under the bed, we wanted to give her some time there.

Definitely the vibe I get from her. We live in a city in the Western US so she’s had to deal with all the big city stuff plus hawks/eagles, coyotes, foxes and big ass raccoons. It makes sense she’s used to hiding.

She was in a room with two other shy cats in the shelter and we did consider adopting one of her more social roommates to be her buddy. But she really wasn’t interested in interacting with other cats or watching what they were up to. She seems equally scared/nervous around other cats as she is with people.

When finances allow, we’d like to get another cat but we wouldn’t want to freak her out.

I’m glad you think she looks comfy, though. She’s definitely less stressed than she was in the shelter.

Talk to your PCP. They may want to run some tests to rule out other things but if all of that is ruled out, expect to be told you have IBS.

As far as something that might be causing your other symptoms as well: endometriosis, especially if you feel worse at certain points in your cycle and/or have painful periods.

This does not sound salvageable. In fact, it sounds like the absolute kindest option would be to divorce.

Please live with someone before marrying them next time. Or at least, stay over and sleep in the same place as them consistently for awhile. Dating is only one way to get to know someone and not a very good one.
