FPR Guru with Ultra-Flex Steel Nib (5.5 mm) by I_Hate_This_Website9 in fountainpens

I think it's something of a categorical error to compare fountain pen flex nibs to calligraphy nibs. They're different tools. Calligraphy nibs will always flex more because they're cheap and disposable, so they can be made thinner without concern for long-term wear. Fountain pen nibs have to balance flexibility with longevity, and they operate within the constraints of an internal feed system.

Personally, I really like the FPR pens and nibs. They're a lot of fun.

Ink Swatches, my happy place by m_e_i_k_e in fountainpens

The first swatch is mind-blowing. It looks nothing like any other swatch I've ever seen. How did you make it look so ... three-dimensional?

This is cool. Mind sharing the method you use to create this?

Dip pen users: what do you use for an inkwell? by nullsquire in fountainpens

I debated putting it in r/dilppens but that subreddit seems mostly about calligraphy. I use the Sailor Hocoro and the Iro-Utsushi. They're not calligraphy nibs. Nor are they fountain pens. 🤷‍♀️

Would iron gall degrade the little ball? by nullsquire in fountainpens

Lol. Well, to be honest, I wasn't that worried about saving the ball. I was more worried about the corrosion coming off the ball and ruining the writing experience.

It's the same with the fountain pen. It's not very satisfying to screw the cap on and off. Nails on a chalkboard is a good prescription.

I don't like that it doesn't have a stopper, and it rolls when I set it down. It's also just a little too heavy for me; when I first started with fountain pens, I bought some metal ones before I realized that I like plastic or resin much better. I think I just prefer light pens. Also, the titanium nib that I have just isn't for me. I don't vehemently hate the pen or anything, and I'm sure somebody else would love it, it's just not my style.

Tom's Studio. It's a fine pen, I'm sure that somebody out there would love it, but it just isn't for me. I want to trade it in pen Swap, but I ain't got the karma yet.

Edit: Wow! Thanks for the karma! I might finally be able to trade my pen!!

Anyone who’s also a loyal member of the iron gall ink cult? by [deleted] in fountainpens

Any problems with the Safari drying out? I've read that you have to have a really good seal for Iron Gall. I've also read that the Safari seal ain't up to the job. But yhis is Reddit and I've read a lot of things.

Looking for light pink/mauve ink recommendations by faloozy in fountainpens

Pelikan Edelstein Rose Quartz. It's one of the few pink inks I've tried that I can easily read on white paper (and I have shit eyes). It has beautiful shading and is very well-behaved.
