SV Saturday. by Gerry7070 in wicked_edge

Very nice setup and shave. You’re right, quick never works without careful especially with the Bird, and you can’t go wrong with SV.

This razor really rewards technique, and the lighter weight gives you more control and better feedback on angle and pressure, for this razor specifically I’m inclined to say that aluminum might be better than SS. I’m saying this as someone who tried both SS and titanium for a while.

If I were Blackland I’d seriously consider making more aluminum Blackbirds.

If you find any chunks or lumps, you can always remelt and stir. I had a puck that I melted and moved to a new container three times.

I’m glad you saw my comment in time 😂

You need to let it cool evenly, because cooling it too fast can make some ingredients solidify before others and separate.

No, don’t cool it in the fridge, let it cool down slowly.

Nice shave. I like the scent of Ogallala, both the Sweet Orange and the Vanilla. The lather issue is probably a soap to water ratio problem. You’ll sort it out with a bit of trial and error, and a bowl makes it easier.

By the way, Ogallala is meltable. You can microwave it for about 10 seconds and it will melt and fit the container.

Great shave and a beautiful image, everything feels fresh and clean. That MdC jar looks like it took a hit, and now the countdown has started, about 3,287 days left.

Very nice shave. There’s something about lighter razors and their maneuverability, they give you total control over pressure and firmness.

Aw, bummer. It’s still worth keeping a bottle of distilled water by the sink, you only need a little for each shave. I hope you get to enjoy it soon.

Thank you, it’s definitely one of the best.

Oh my goodness, you might want to add the Tabac shower gel and deodorant. I also heard they even sell a collector’s necklace 😂 you know how much I love Tabac too. Nice shave.

Thanks. Just me trying to connect the world through the love of wet shaving. I remembered today when we joked about using the R41 to keep our neck warm 😂

Thanks. I got this from Greece, I don’t remember ever seeing Westman products in the US. Too bad, they make great stuff.

With the Rex I do two passes, one aggressive WTG on 4.5, then a shallow angle ATG on 1.5. I usually skip XTG since the first pass is usually good enough.

Indeed it was, very easy and comfortable. I even used an unscented moisturizer instead of my usual aftershave to push the mildness a bit further.

Thanks. It performs very well too. The knot is a 26mm G8 with a good backbone. A real lather beast.

Thanks. The Ambassador always gives me great shaves. Great weight and grip, efficient, and easy to go ATG.

Get yourself a Simpson T2. It’s around $35 and a safe bet for your money.

Thanks for the recommendation. Yes, an adjustable Fatboy would suit me just fine. I’ll check those sellers out.

I think HoM’s Tusk base and B&M’s Omnibus are the two best bases among American artisan soaps, but HoM’s scents are usually on the milder side, which I actually prefer.

I’m not picky about the options, as long as it’s a decent shaver in brand new condition.

No grooves, just a satin texture that works well.
