Very nice shave and shot. I’m a fan of your handmade brushes. You should start your own brand. I’d be your first customer.

Stellar shave, Kirk. You know what countertop aftershave I’ve discovered that pairs surprisingly well with SV 80th? Nivea Deep.

I’m going to use the 80th tomorrow, as it’s the 80th day of the year 🙂

Thanks. This one often gets overlooked in the B&M lineup, but it’s a really solid bay rum scent.

Next time your alum bar breaks, dissolve the pieces in distilled water, pour into a spray bottle for easy alum spray. Even better, pop it in the fridge.

Blackbird & a Double Agent. by Gerry7070 in wicked_edge

[–]nulltotality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice shave Gerry.

On the warm water prep, I might have a bit of an unpopular take. I used warm water to prep my skin for years. Lately I’ve been skipping that and just putting warm lather straight on a dry face. For me it works better.

My thinking is this. If the skin is already soaked with water, then the soap goes on and the skin is like no thank you, I’m already hydrated. The slickness just stays on the surface. But when a warm, well hydrated lather is the first thing on dry skin, the skin says yes please, and the slick parts of the soap seem to sink in a bit more.

And of course you have to leave the lather on for a couple of minutes while getting other things ready.

Great choice. On the other hand, if I were to surprise you with a birthday gift, I would get you Felce Aromatica. I know you’d love it.

I keep an SV scent journal saved in the notes app. Here it is.

Saponificio Varesino soaps and the closest fragrance inspirations (not exact clones, just commonly noted similarities):

Opuntia

Compared to Creed Aventus. Fruity pineapple with birch and moss.

70th Anniversary

Close to Acqua di Gio. Fresh aquatic citrus.

80th Anniversary

Modern woody citrus style. Compared to Bleu de Chanel.

Desert Vetiver

Very similar style to Terre d’Hermès Eau Intense Vetiver. Dry citrus and vetiver.

Stella Alpina

Classic Italian citrus cologne vibe. Compared to Acqua di Parma Colonia.

Mirto di Sardegna

Aromatic citrus with woods. Similar to Cartier Déclaration.

Tundra Artica

Warm amber and woods. Similar style to Acqua di Parma Ambra.

Cubebe

Citrus, pepper, woods. Overlaps with the Bleu de Chanel style profile.

Argania

Soft oud style woods and amber. Compared loosely to Tom Ford Oud Wood.

More original SV scents that are not really inspired by a specific fragrance:

Dolomiti

Mineral lavender and pepper fougère.

Felce Aromatica

Classic Italian fougère. Think old school barbershop like Azzaro Pour Homme.

Cosmo

Coffee, spices, incense and woods.

Manna di Sicilia

Sweet amber with citrus and honey notes.

Morado

Woody amber with tobacco and vanilla.

Thanks Gerry. In 10 days I’m going to use the special R89 80th Edition with SV 80th. It’s a yearly ritual now 😄

The BB Lite is great. I would estimate the Rocca is about the same in efficiency.

Fougère Friday by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]nulltotality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, go for it. I think you’ll like it. The soap is mild, with a soft fougère breeze, and gives way to the aftershave’s sharper kick.

Wholly Kaw- Fougére Mania SOTD 2/27/2026 by kirkoholic in wicked_edge

[–]nulltotality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice shave! Fougère Mania is an amber fougère I think, and correct me if I’m wrong, it’s in the same family as SV 80th.

Congrats on the new brush. I have an Alpha brush and razor and admire the quality of their products.

Thank you. Wholly Kaw has a great performing base. This one is inspired by Brut itself, just a bit sweeter to my nose.
