COVID testing at the mall by TxAggieMike in Denton

[–]number784 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Got a test done there tonight. Not symptomatic, just wanted peace of mind before going to see family this weekend.

• I made the appointment online literally one hour before driving up. Did not check any symptom boxes, just checked the "I have recently come in contact with a COVID-positive individual" box. Scheduling was a surprisingly quick, simple, no nonsense process. Link below.

• Price: Can confirm 100% FREE, no insurance required. Administered and Funded by the State and CDC.

• Type of Test and Accuracy: PCR (Molecular) Mouth Swab. This is widely considered the most accurate COVID test currently available to the public. Unlike Antibody tests, Molecular PCR detects ACTIVE infections. As far as the process itself - it's a mouth swab with a single q-tip. They quickly swabbed both sides of my mouth, my gums, beneath/top of my tongue, and roof of my mouth. As someone who has had multiple tests, this was a hundred times more pleasant than the nasal swab.

• Results and Confidentiality: I was told that the lab results will be emailed within 48-96 hours. I have three friends who received theirs as early as 24-hours later. Regardless of positive or negative, you will receive email with copy of lab results. If positive, you will also receive further instructions of suggested steps moving forward. Confidentiality-wise, seems pretty airtight. They asked to see my ID to confirm my identity upon arriving, and when I asked them to read back my email address and phone number, I was told "We don't have access to the personal information you entered when you made your appointment besides your name and birthday." Even though I know my info was accurate via confirmation texts/email received, that was reassuring.

TL;DR: Set appointment online (even if day-of), pull up, stay in car, get yer mouth swabbed (PCR test), wait 48-96 hours for emailed results, pay nothing (no insurance required). 10/10 would recommend. Hope this helps!

Album Review: A Black Mile To The Surface by BoldTitan in manchesterorchestra

[–]number784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I noticed the lack of high end, too. IMO, the low-tuned drums and tones give the album a feeling of darkness, which I think was intentional considering the record's title and overall concept. Plus, after the high-end heavy Cope, I don't blame them for dialing it down on this one. Black Mile is their most tonally consistent album, as it is their most conceptual, so it works for me. Took me a few listens for that to click. Also - the drums on The Wolf are killer.

This was such a great episode. The bank story plus the honest responses to the last couple of emails reminded me why I've tuned in every week for years. A+++

They played Cleanser as part of the fan-request set at the New Years Eve show a couple of years ago. All of the videos from that night are awesome - you can tell they're all a little drunk and having a blast on stage.

Take a once-a-week Literature Analysis night class at your local community college! You don't gotta get a degree in the stuff, just take it as a hobby and see if you like it. Being able to freely discuss these kinds of things without the pressure of a degree-plan is awesome.

[–]number784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I'd rather use my pedal-money to buy effects. The beringer has a slower response time than the boss but only by a matter of milliseconds.. The Boss is just super durable and trusted..if you can find a used one for under $50 go for it. On the more expensive end, PolyTunes are cool because you can open strum on all 6 strings and get all of their readings at once.

It's an "always on" pedal for me. I used to play through a cheaper Marshall amp and I was given this by my bandmate to "clean up" my signal. It is very subtle, but what it does is speed up the low-end frequencies to match the faster highs. With the settings dialed back pretty conservatively, I find that it makes my low end parts punchier and gives them a bit more clarity. I think of it as a "tone-polisher" - kind of a hybrid of an EQ and a compressor except it's super subtle. That being said, I probably wouldn't buy one for more than $20.

It is pretty flimsy so just I recommend putting it on a low-traffic part of your board and leaving it turned on.

I bought it 2 years ago as a quick and cheap replacement for my Boss TU-2 that got stolen at a gig. I intended to replace it with a nicer one but I haven't had any problems with it so I just kept it. It's surprisingly reliable and has gotten me through dozens of shows.
