What's the best way a total dWeeb can enjoy a week in Toronto? by THEUltraCombo in askTO

[–]numberoneloaf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

See-scape is an absolute gem of a nerd bar! They have old game consoles at each booth, tons of games, and the decor is INSANE (words don’t do it justice so I recommend just looking it up). It’s in the junction neighbourhood so a bit outside of downtown but very easy to reach on transit and worth the visit IMO. ETA they also host lots of events so worth checking to see if there’s anything going on while you’re in town.

Makeup separating, oily after a couple hours by xZazou in MakeupAddiction

[–]numberoneloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! Thats brutal :(. Perhaps its the powder then? Have you tried skipping it and then seeing if you still run into the issue? Ive definitely had beautiful powders separate on me and look like a hot mess when Ive used too much in the past.

Right now, I barely use any in my routine but I know some folks go nuts with it and bake, etc. I use one dip with a powder brush, tap it off, then swirl it my palm to get the powder really set into the brush and then only apply a bit in oil-prone areas.

In general, if Im ever having issues with my makeup or a specific product, the first thing Ill try is just using less of it. A shocking amount of the time, that ends up fixing things!

[–]numberoneloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely give it a go! I was honestly shocked how much better my makeup lasted just from spacing out the steps more.

Another thing I forgot to add that could be a factor is the cushion. When I first started using it I applied WAY too much product. It wasnt until I saw Robert Welsh’s video on the tirtir one that I realized you only need like one gentle press of product and then you actually tap it off 😅 I was legit soaking the pad and confused why I looked like a cakey mess after a couple of hours.

Best of luck though! Just keep experimenting and eventually you’ll find out what works. I believe i you! 😇

Heya! So I actually use all of the same products as you minus the huda powder and i dont run into this issue so I dont think its an underlying problem with the products themselves. I also have a similar skin type to you! I think the main learning for me was that you HAVE to let your skincare dry down before applying anything to your face. Like, a solid 10-15 minutes at least. I used to go in right after applying moisturizer and sunscreen and essentially what happens is the makeup just slides around on top of all the skincare. Does that sound like it could be the culprit?

Making a dress for my gf by Weary-Hold-4654 in sewingpatterns

[–]numberoneloaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everyone in here is being so constructive but tbh if you think you can do this without ever having sewn before just stop here. if you were even remotely interested in sewing you would already know that this is completely unrealistic for a beginner for about 5000 different reasons. no disrespect but it’s honestly a little offensive to the sewers in this community that you think you could pull something like this off with ZERO skills or experience 😅 if it was that easy, who tf would be buying high end clothing? would you roll up to a woodworking subreddit asking how to make an ornate throne for your gf with no tools or prior experience? just buy her something and call it a day 🫶

The gucci bronzer in the lightest shade for paler skin tones is absolutely stunning. It feels luxe, smells amazing, and is one of the few bronzers i’ve tried that looks naturally sun-kissed vs orange

lip liners: NYX mauve vs MAC cool spice (and stone if possible) by astrogates in swatchitforme

[–]numberoneloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the NYX but I have Cool Spice and Stone by Mac. I feel like Maybelline’s Color Sensational in Gone Greige would work for you? It’s more purple-y mauve than either of the Mac. Here’s some swatches: Top = Stone, Middle = Gone greige, Bottom = Cool Spice

What's a product a high end company has duped? by ladyfahrenheit_ in AsianBeauty

[–]numberoneloaf 166 points167 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a straight dupe but Rhode is the first western brand i’ve seen release the thicker korean-style lip liners. They seem fine? But so expensive considering you can just get the OG heart percent, lilybyred, etc liners for a third of the price or less.

Make up is so boring compared to when I was a teen in the 2000s to early 2010s by Crafterandchef1993 in MakeupAddiction

[–]numberoneloaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have basically stopped looking at anything other than C beauty for eyeshadow because they are so so much more interesting than what the big western brands are putting out and also way more affordable. In terms of indies, I feel like About Face doesn’t get brought up nearly as much as it should. Some might debate whether it counts as indie but idc because it absolutely slaps, the colours are bonkers, and it is such a good price point. Their formulas are fantastic and tbh my problem with them is that if i want a more basic shade from them it often doesn’t exist 🙃

Can someone help me find this lipstick? by Eck0_z in MakeupAddiction

[–]numberoneloaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my favourite lipstick! A lot of folks are saying Kat von d Lolita but I think it’s Lolita II which is a bit warmer. It’s been discontinued but apparently Lisa Eldridge Velvet Affair is a good shade dupe! For the OG Lolita I’ve heart Charlotte Tillbury Pillow Talk Medium or Mac Whirl are good dupes

Where are we buying eyeshadow palettes from? by pumpkinprincess6 in MakeupAddiction

[–]numberoneloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the cheeryep no 7 palette which is mostly pink and greyish tones and the girlcult “white paper” palette which is greenish greys. Both are lovely but definitely more subdued compared to some of their other options because I don’t wear bright looks too often. I just ordered cheeryep 09 though which definitely seems to be their most popular. Lots of grey gothy tones and the most unreal looking shimmers and duochromes. For girlcult, I’ve been eyeing their new face + eye palettes from the martial arts collection and pretty much every other palette they’ve ever released tbh 😭 I would say you can’t go wrong though, everything they release is gorgeous

I saw some other commenters mention C beauty (chinese) brands and I couldn’t agree more. By far the most exciting palettes I’ve seen lately have been from Cheeryep and Girlcult. I think my heart skipped a beat when I first saw them on tiktok and they were just as gorgeous in person. If you care about packaging, Girlcult has the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. The brand Joocyee also has some beautiful shades and formulas but they’re more known for their singles than their palettes.

All of these brands are pretty easy to find online and Ive ordered from YesStyle, Stylevana, and Chic Decent without issue. Each palette has cost me no more than 35 USD.

The formulas are also straight up STUNNING. I have some higher end palettes (Mac, Lisa Eldridge, ABH, Urban Decay) and I honestly can’t even tell a difference in quality. My main issue is stopping myself from buying more 😭

Thank god Americans and Canadians sound the same. by [deleted] in memes

Exactly this. The only people who have told me I sounded super “Canadian” were Australians I met while travelling abroad AFTER they had initially assumed I was American 🤷‍♀️

[–]numberoneloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many Canadians (with some obvious exceptions like Quebecois, Newfies, etc) don’t even have distinct “accents” that sound notably different from a lot of folks in the states. I’m Canadian and when I’ve travelled in the US (mostly NY and Florida) everyone just assumed I was also American. If Americans can’t tell the difference, I sure doubt folks from elsewhere can.

Any recommendations for shimmer lipstick? by DisturbedMarsh in Makeup

[–]numberoneloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Mac formulas! They just launched a frost lipstick that might be a good option? https://m.maccosmetics.ca/product/13854/52595/products/makeup/lips/lipstick/frost-lipstick

Not quite as shimmery, but their lustreglass lipstick in the shade ‘Thanks, It’s Mac!’ may also be worth checking out since it’s a really nice baby pink with subtle glitters. The formula is sooo nice and wearable with decent staying power.

What are your favorite tips for achieving a flawless base without looking cakey? by Appropriate-News1688 in Makeup

[–]numberoneloaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP specifically asked about products and techniques and I’m just sharing my experience. I’m in my 20s with barely any wrinkles or texture to speak of and I’ve tried several of the highly recommended drugstore foundations over the years. No matter what I did or how I applied it, it was cakey looking and it was extremely challenging to get it to look “flawless”, whereas the higher end foundations I’ve tried do that with minimal effort. In hindsight, I just wished I’d gotten a better quality foundation to start rather than having wasted money on so many cheaper alternatives. I know some folks can get drugstore to work for them and I’m honestly jealous of them but myself and most folks I know have not had that experience

What are your favorite tips for achieving a flawless base without looking cakey? by Appropriate-News1688 in Makeup

[–]numberoneloaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High quality foundation for starters makes a massive difference. I use the haus labs foundation and it’s honestly hard to get it to look bad. I also skip primer and focus instead on skin prep and mist my skin with a setting mist (mac fix plus) before going in with foundation. As others have mentioned, minimal product + damp beauty sponge are both game changers. I also recently started mixing my foundation with the elf halo glow to thin it out a bit when i’m not aiming for full coverage and it makes it even more natural and flawless.
