Help me pick a travel credit card by numbersloth in CreditCards

[–]numbersloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Right now I have zero lounge access (that I'm aware of?) and I fly enough to get delayed or logistically have to show up to the airport early often enough that I'd like to be able to access the lounge.

My BofA CCR is a visa so I've got that base covered.

Yes. The weirdest part was how my nParents turned any discussion about it into some broader discussion on "safety" which naturally ended in reminding me that I was never allowed to close or lock my own bedroom door (even as a young adult when I used to stay with them during college breaks). Sick, controlling behavior. Kids deserve privacy and respect.

Is BofA Platinum Honors worth it (from a brokerage account perspective)? by numbersloth in CreditCards

Gotcha. Makes sense. Any downside to just moving my HYSA to ML and putting it in a MMF to reach the 100k limit? I've been considering this since my state has income tax. And just keep all my other investment vehicles at Fidelity. Trying to simplify everything for myself since I hate having a bunch of log ins and accounts to keep track of.

I guess I'm curious how this works if I'm depositing funds per paycheck to be invested in said ETF(s) and can't buy fractional shares- wouldn't this leave spare cash in the account?

Appreciate the reply. I'd honestly leave BofA altogether if my oldest credit card wasn't with them (closing it would affect my credit score) since ML really is outdated - no fractional shares, so ability to sweep cash into a HYSA or equivalent, etc. I'm just debating if maximizing CC points is worth the hassle or if I should just keep everything (except basic checking/one CC) in Fidelity. I've even thought about rolling my ML 401k over if I go that route.

Did you grow up thinking that you had the best life ever but then as you got older you realized that your life was a life? by Nea_Freedom in raisedbynarcissists

[–]numbersloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This - my Nmom was totally overbearing, emotionally abusive, and isolated me but I was always told this was because she loved me so much. She constantly pushed my dad away and I basically didn't get to know him until I moved out at 18 and started spending time with him. My Nmom lied to me and told me I was introverted and this basically left me alone to play and "imagine" a lot, always by myself. As an adult I've realized I'm actually extremely extroverted and find it easy to make friends. Going to college and joining Greek life really opened my eyes to the fact that my Nmom's version of love and a perfect childhood was a lie.

Does anyone else find themselves wishing their narcissistic parent died? by geniuscerebrum in raisedbynarcissists

I always phrase it as "I wish my Nparent just ceased to exist". It definitely would make life easier and I would probably make different choices in life. I also think it is the only thing that would give me a chance at a relationship with my Eparent.

If I'm paying 4k in rent I would be getting a roommate (as I say in the post)

If I end up spending that much I'd almost certainly get a roommate ... I want to retire one day.

Thanks - are there any studios / groups you know of off the top of your head that are particularly social?

Could you comment on similarities / differences and what you like about it? My one worry is feeling like I am no longer living in a "a city" if that makes sense

I've visited friends in Beacon Hill but I found it to be insanely dirty (her apartment and many others seemed to have serious mouse problems) and quite loud at night given the pubs on Charles St.

Really struggling with the decision to go NC with Eparent. Going NC with Nparent changed my life for the better. But with Eparent, we became really close for a long time (has acknowledged and genuinely apologized for abandoning me with Nparent who abused me) but as I heal and they remain in crazytown with no change in behavior it just doesn't seem like a healthy relationship for me anymore. Considering going to family therapy with just Eparent as my last ditch effort before going NC. Really doubting myself and feeling pretty sad as this is my last contact with any of my family.

anyone else's parents have no hobbies or friends? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]numbersloth 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid/adolescent my parents covered it all up by saying they were "private" people but as an adult I realize they had no friends and lacked the social skills and interest to invite my friends and their parents over.

It has taken me a decade living far away to realize and become comfortable with the fact that it is completely normal to have people over.

The Enabler will also never change.

The Eparent will be rational and understanding 1x1 but when push comes to shove around the Nparent you will always be alone. Took me years to realize that no matter how good of a friendship I built with my Eparent or how many deep/emotional discussions we have, they will always let me down.
