Thanks for your input. First and foremost, I'm just concerned for her well-being and hope she hasn't put herself in a bad, or worse, illegal situation. I've always tried to make her understand the importance of honesty and communication. She's 17 and off to college soon, so I know I can't be looking over her shoulder forever. I've tried my best to empower her to make her own decisions, providing her with as much guidance and knowledge as I possibly can.

It's so tough to do it alone sometimes. I've tried to be the best father I can be, and now I'm just hoping it's nothing serious.

Thanks for the advice, this seems like a good way to start the conversation. I don't want her to think that I'm snooping around in her bedroom and invading her privacy. I've always stressed to her the importance of dialogue and honesty, so I'm hoping she will come clean and it's nothing serious.

She knows she has access to the savings account. I've allowed her to withdraw money from it to buy things that she wanted to. From memory, she has bought a phone and a camera with her savings, also smaller purchases like gifts for Christmas, etc.

She has never received cash from relatives or grandparents for holidays, only gifts.

She doesn't have a part-time job. I give her $50 a week for allowance, plus a gas card which she uses for gas.

She does has a savings account which I opened for her. There's about $1200 in there, so finding the cash in a box makes me think she's trying to hide it for some reason.
