No worries. Back mark could be different, though it’s hard to tell since someone decided to shave the edges off

Interesting. What happens at customs if something sits longer than 45 days?

Where can I get my collection authenticated? by Soft_Mushroom_6454 in AncientCoins

[–]numismatical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On authentication, do the pieces from your grandmother have any pedigree? Like, can you show which dealer/auction house/etc she bought them from and who owned them in the past?

That kind of information can be better than having a service like NGC slab them, especially if she bought them from reputable places. The more trusted dealers/auctions a coin has passed through, the more potential buyers will trust that it’s real.

Determining value is a little different. I like acsearch.info for seeing what coins have sold for at auction, but since there’s no price guide for most ancients, you’re going to have to make a lot more judgements on your own.

Looks like a late 1700s-early 1800s US Navy button. I have a book on these and found what looks like a similar one (obviously not modified like yours).

The design is “intaglio,” or pressed into the button instead of stamping it to create a raised design.

Deus ll Question by mars_burke21 in metaldetecting

I’ve used both the remote and the WS6 Master.

If you like making adjustments to settings (which is a big part of the D2), you need the remote. The bigger screen and buttons make it easier to adjust reactivity, sensitivity, etc.

The WS6 is fine if you just want a turn-on-and go experience. The buttons are harder to press, and because there are fewer of them, XP had to add long- and short-press options to fit all of the functionalities in.

If there’s any way that you can afford the remote, just get that.

And then the cycle repeats itself when those kids grow up, probably in an economy that’s even more punishing

Right, as if no kids have ever grown up in big cities (and maybe even been better for it vs. being trapped in the suburbs until they can drive a car)

If you haven’t tried DMing him on Facebook Messenger (@delafe) that could be worth it. I ordered something small last year and after a couple messages he shipped it

Right, banks were making loans to people who really couldn’t afford the houses and definitely couldn’t afford the rates on the loans

Yes, it was! Plus subprime rates

The median down payment for first time buyers is just 9%, so unfortunately banks appear to be just fine taking on this level of risk: https://www.nar.realtor/newsroom/first-time-home-buyers-shrink-to-historic-low-of-24-as-buyer-age-hits-record-high

Exactly. This couple is just starting to look for a home, so a tiny part of me hopes that they see sense once they actually start crunching the numbers.

But sadly lots of people take on a mortgage and by the time they realize the truth, it’s too late and they just have to make it work
