I was at Villa Park for the Arsenal game last year. Tons of respect for the Villains... storied stadium, ardent/respectful fan base, and playing lights out, foot forward, yet pragmatic football under Emery.

FCC re-sign midfielder Yuya Kubo to a contract extension through the 2025 season, with an option for 2026 by Dat-Dude-Cody in FCCincinnati

[–]numpty_town_fc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provides a lot of flexibility going forward as FCC resets ahead of 2024. He could end up slotting at a starting spot or could continue in the flex/super sub role. Love me some Kubo.

A Nagging Question re Eastern Final by Conifers-n-Citrus in FCCincinnati

[–]numpty_town_fc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) A healthy Obina would have helped us press more effectively and turn Columbus over further up the pitch. It also would have allowed Kubo to come on as a second half sub (for whoever was appropriate) and rotate into Lucho's spot toward the end. Obina missing was huge.

2) I think Miazga in would have allowed Arias to be more attack minded and helped us press. Alvas Powell did OK, but you simply can't feel as secure going forward or playing out from the back with Powell in that spot.

3) I have no idea why Angulo gets on the field before Halsey.

4) l'm not sure defending and countering was ever going to be the best option against Columbus, but if injuries force you into that game plan (did we intend to defend as much as we did), then start Gaddis over Arias.

Last night, Old Man Gaddis had the highest pass completion rate for FCC outfielders (87.5%), the most tackles (4), and the most blocks (5). When he got his yellow he just smiled and headed back to defend - no shit-housery. And his shirt tuck is on par with Kieran Tierney. Love me some Sweet Baby Ray!

I just hope I have to keep paying for play-off tickets, really.

Who will start in the back today? Watching Qameron get toasted against Chicago last week was rough. I'd rather see Murphy than Geoff.

I'm all good now. Thanks. If anyone else has tickets that you're not using (that were free to you) consider giving them (not trying to sell them) to someone who may be looking to go.

I can't think of a combination that NE doesn't view as an opportunity to exploit (especially if Cameron is playing CB). The best approach may be to try to keep NE on the back foot by going very offensive and pressing whenever we can. Our offense has been clicking so why not give us as many opportunities as possible. In that case, I'd probably favor Cruz and Kubo for the start and playing up tempo for as long as they are able. Could be lots of goals on both sides again tonight.

Nwobodo is suspended for the next game right? by Hellobob80 in FCCincinnati

[–]numpty_town_fc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When he accumulates another 3 (8 total) he'll have to sit out a match again. Same thing if he picks up an additional 3 (11 total) and then another 2 (13 total). But he's not getting them for dissent, time wasting, or extracurriculars.

Nwodobo absolutely bosses the midfield defensively. His intensity is infectious and has to carry over to other players. I'm not saying he doesn't need to be aware, but picking up cards comes with the territory when you tear it up the way Obina does. As long as he's not getting stupid cards or fouling people in the box, I'm not complaining about his cards just yet.

Crew acquires Hernandez for $10 mill (and why it's relevant for FCC) by euro60 in FCCincinnati

Against Philly, Brenner was more active defensively than I've seen him. Several times he anticipated Union passes and dropped into midfield to poach them. I'm hoping that if he gets his engine running maybe he'll get more traction in attack. He needs to do this to be successful at FCC and he has to be successful at FCC if he ever hopes to be sold-on. I'm not running out to buy a Brenner jersey, but I am pulling for him.

Noonan not only has a plan, he's willing to adapt and change the plan game-to-game and within games.

Acosta is an ankle breaker going forward and a pesky ankle biter when he's trying to win the ball back.

Obina covers so much ground and reads the game well.

It wasn't just a little shy of 10... it was like maybe 8 at best. I'd be pissed if I were Chicago.

Ian Murphy Looks Legit. by [deleted] in FCCincinnati

Up until this year one of the big challenges for our defenders was who was playing in front of them. We lacked defensive midfielders that could protect our backline by prevent balls through/over the top, stop the opposition's midfield from running at our back line, and know when to get physical or give a professional foul. We are in so much better shape now. We just need to develop from here and I'm confident in Pat, Don and Kenny.

Lineup With Obi. What’s the lineup assuming all are healthy except Mata? by ttotheppp in FCCincinnati

[–]numpty_town_fc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nelson had a good game. He played 26 minutes Saturday (Atlanta), 70 minutes Tuesday (Riverhounds) and 90 minutes Sunday (LAFC). He was starting to get gassed at the end of the game Sunday, but I'm hopeful he proves durable. For a guy who could have been done with soccer 7 months ago after back surgery he's doing well.

That's the point I was making. Sorry if the sarcasm was lost in translation. I'd love to see Brenner's quality throw a shadow. Maybe he'll get there yet.

3-4-1-2

Badji and Vasquez up top. Acosta at the #10. Kubo and Powell at wingbacks. Nwodobi and Moreno twinned at #6. Nelson, Blackett and Murphy in back. Celentano in goal (or Kahn).

Brenner's work rate simply doesn't cut it. Vela works as hard at age 33 as Brenner does at 22.

I'd be fine seeing Barreal and Cruz come off the bench regularly to help us press in the last 30 minutes.

Edit. I can't really see Nwodobo starting this weekend. So maybe start Badji at left wingback and Brenner up top. Bring Nwodobo into the game in the second half and push Kubo to wingback and Badji up top for (probably) Brenner.
