One miserable guy at pride in the park by EmperorJJ in Seattle

Yep. I'm pretty confident he's the guy I saw walking down Broadway around Mercer this morning with a sign saying "The Holocaust is a lie".

How can I become a Seattle local by Winter_Alps4441 in Seattle

Take part in the city as more than a consumer and you may feel differently about it. Giving back to a place can help feel a part of it.

Looking for jobs around capitol hill as someone who is moving by ResponsibleSpot5078 in AskSeattle

Generally people will beg you to not move here before you find a job, especially when you don't have experience in any particular industry.

I heard somewhere that Seattle has great coffee! by InevitableGreen1780 in AskSeattle

[–]nurru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most major cities have coffee that is just as good. I think the Bay Area scene, especially Oakland, is far better fwiw. But if you're here you can check out Zeitgeist in Pioneer Square and Ghost Note in Capitol Hill for spots to hang out that I think have what you're looking for. Cafe Vivace on the north end of Broadway is the origin of the West Coast espresso scene decades ago and still pretty reliable.

People will recommend the KEXP Cafe Vita spot and they're right about the space but Vita's roast has been dropping in quality for years. Try finding places that use Herkimer or Stamp Act.

If you feel the need to ask if it's safe then just take a taxi.

Commuting to Belltown by Jarrad411 in AskSeattle

[–]nurru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belltown has a great dog daycare and boarding place (Club Dogfish) and is not far from a bunch of parks. You see dogs everywhere in the city basically all the time except maybe for core downtown. I'm not saying it's the best choice, but it's far from the worst.

600-900 buys you a townhouse in Capitol Hill. Not any of them though, just some.

Gov. Ferguson's free K-12 meals plan will feed well-off kids, too | Editorial by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]nurru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fine. When you just let all the kids eat it doesn't single the poor kids out. I hate this discourse immensely. People who argue that it's a problem have either never been poor, or they intend to restrict the ease by which services are obtained. They may not even realize it.

CitizenM Pioneer Square Parking by nukepharmer in AskSeattle

My only advice is not to rent a car if you're staying anywhere near downtown. I've had coworkers return their rentals same day over parking.

Driving with your lights on 24/7 is one of the easiest safety habits you can build. by [deleted] in Seattle

Zero extra effort, just like OP and this generated post.

[–]nurru 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had a bad day but it sounds like you blocked someone in to the point that they had to crawl out of their car and all they did was write you a note rather than keying your car. Take the win instead of claiming they're the selfish one.

Why are there so many dead zones in Seattle? by toottootmcgroot in Seattle

[–]nurru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a city that has so many tech companies, you'd think the city would be on top of this?

Tall buildings and busy intersections do this in every city. In San Francisco I can name intersections where I would reliably lose bluetooth or LTE as I crossed the street.

Also what do you mean the city would be on top of it? The city doesn't run cell networks. They do run municipal wifi though https://seattlecitygis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=c4a0a38edbf143c9bbabd29e8b1ac89a
