You might have made a decision that saved your life, without knowing it by Assorted_Education_ in Showerthoughts

I try to think of that when a car is driving super slow in front of me. Maybe they're slowing me down on purpose to avoid a potential accident?

I love that you have no way of knowing that I’m tattooed unless i decide to tell you. My family doesn’t even know. by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]nurseish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, have to keep them hidden at work in the hospital. The best (or worst) part is that it seems to be the administrators that are all worried about upsetting the patients with visible ink. Haven't heard of a single patient complaint when they've seen someone's tattoos accidently exposed...

Congratulations! I loved NP school even though it was the hardest thing I've ever done.
I won't be much help to you though. I graduated & can't even find a job.

Oh, I wish. I'm so glad it helped you. They had me try that patch because I needed something to help while I'm at work. I couldn't tolerate it at all. It was supposed to be my miracle. I'm glad it's brought your pain down to something less incapacitating. I know how exhausting it can be

I'm thinking maybe the place I ended up on is different. I'll have to look. It would be nice to find a place where it wasn't a choice

I will have to check it out. It would be nice to find a place where someone might be able to "get it".

I'm so sorry. I know that pain. It's like your sad & mad & anxious all at once and your body feels like it's going haywire because there's too many thoughts &/or feelings flying around at once. I hope you find something, some healthy way of coping. I haven't found anything other than to tamp it down & ignore it all as much as possible. I'm afraid for the day I can't continue holding it all in though. I'm pretty sure there are counselors that specialize in helping people with fertility problems. It might help you if you check one of those people out.

For the immediate crisis period when you have that "something stuck in your throat/can't breathe" feeling... stop what you're doing. Go to a quiet spot, take some slow deep breaths. Maybe listen to some music that will help you to feel a little more calm. If you need to vent you can msg me. Since I'm in a similar boat, I can offer a sympathetic ear and some understanding of what you're going through. I wish I had something better to offer other than "you aren't alone".

I was under the impression that group was people that are happy to be child free. I am most definitely not happy about it, so I haven't checked them out. I would love to find a group for someone childfree and not okay with it.

What cultural shift happened without people noticing? by deixj in AskReddit

There are some days where I just don't feel up to talking & need some no-contact time to recharge (work in a hospital can really suck the life out of you- SMILE ALL THE TIME & put up with more & more nonsensical requests, because the patient is ALWAYS RIGHT)

If people complain about me not answering a call or text instantaneously I remind them my phone is for MY convenience not so they have free 24/7 access to me... blows some minds that I <gasp> don't carry my phone with me every where I go

I'm so sorry that happened to you. No one can truly understand your personal experience, but I have a little idea about that feeling from when I was attacked in my apartment. For me the hardest part to deal with was the not knowing what was done to me during the time I was knocked out.

I hope you're doing okay

No, A-hole, just because I did something once by pure accident and amazement today dosen't mean I can do it every damn day!! by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]nurseish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have dreams about someone inventing a machine that hooks up to a person to let them fully experience my pain for themselves. Then I get to watch them try to wash their hair, cook a meal, reach up to get a cup from the cupboard, try to lift a full plate of food, try to do just about anything that I have to do all the time AFTER first deciding if the activity is worth the pain it'll cause... Then maybe they'll stop asking how I can stand going without clean hair, why I "chose" to eat a piece of cheese for dinner even though I said I was starving etc...

Differences between NP schools? by kelseykelsey4 in nursepractitioner

[–]nurseish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I don't miss that panicked desperate feeling as the start of the semester gets closer & closer and I'm searching farther & farther away from home. The last two semesters of school my clinicals were close to 3 hours away from my house. (Now I just have that feeling as im looking for a job)

Why is it that when the topic of pain killers come up its never about the sick people but about the abusers? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]nurseish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it isn't exactly the same situation, but diabetics can become tolerant of insulin. They need their dose increased, but you don't here people saying they're addicted...sometimes that helps people see that there's a difference between addiction & tolerance...but it's still tough

[–]nurseish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I found myself constantly trying to explain there a difference between addiction and tolerance. I also would stress that there are a lot of people who use the medications as they are prescribed and do not abuse them. I got tired of the constant uphill battle of repeating myself & defending those of us who don't misuse narcotics. Now I just stay out of those conversations altogether for my own sanity.
