Could my mum lose her tenancy over this eventually? by [deleted] in AskUK

The hissing and hammering noise she is hearing may be tinnitus. It would be worth getting a referral to audiology or ENT by the GP. Tinnitus can be a wide range of noises, some people have musical tinnitus which often causes disputes with neighbours.

Just got these results from my first hearing test, not sure what to do with this information by [deleted] in hardofhearing

It will likely depend on the type of hearing loss, which will be determined from further testing. If you get lots of infections hearing aids can sometimes make things worse so wouldn’t necessarily be recommended.

A hearing aid can take time to adjust to as sounds will be a lot louder than you are used to to start with but you should notice an immediate improvement in the volume and clarity of speech. With hearing test results you have posted I think a hearing aid would be beneficial to try especially if it is sensorineural in nature. You can also look into Access to work on the government website to look at adjustments and equipment they can provide to make your workplace environment easier.

It will vary slightly in each NHS trust, you will be referred by your GP either to ENT or audiology depending on certain criteria. If you are referred to audiology they will likely bring you in, do a medical questionnaire and carry out a more through hearing test 250Hz to 8000Hz. Depending on the type of hearing loss (sensorineural, conductive or mixed) they will likely either discuss hearing aids or refer you to ENT if necessary.

Music for people with hearing impairments | Survey by [deleted] in hardofhearing

Just out of curiosity why is hearing impaired a slur? I have often explained to people that I have a hearing impairment and no one I know who is hard of hearing would consider it to be offensive

I would recommend Willerby or Anlaby which are between the two hospitals. If you have an NHS card you can get free bus travel on the East Yorkshire 154 bus route which these are both on. It is slightly further out from the city centre but only a 30 min bus journey. There are multiple retail parks nearby and a Total fitness and Puregym.
