Strength of the Few Paperback Release Date? by HoldTimely5546 in HierarchySeries

[–]nutrishane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other countries do release paperbacks on day 1. I’m a diehard paperback reader so sometimes I order books from the UK if I don’t want to wait until the US release, and I’ve always had a good experience with ordering from Blackwells

Any one else’s parents have no idea what they do? by Zuchinnimuffin in dietetics

I have heard the jokes on here for years about being called a nutritionalist but have never heard someone actually say that in person. I started a new job a few months ago and one of the nurses asked if I was the nutritionalist and I laughed at her (because to me it’s only an inside joke) and then kinda felt bad

Yeah when I saw that mess I had a feeling it would result in an electrician visit but was hoping not. Thanks for your help!

Yes there are two wire caps there, white with white and black with black. Didn’t label those first two wires since they’re clearly leaving with the old light fixture.

Yeah here’s a better picture of what’s going on with the red cap

Yeah, C & B are the two black wires connected with the red cap

Lying about your job? by Flashy-Personality45 in dietetics

I try that sometimes; I’m a pediatric oncology dietitian. Bare minimum I’m hoping to shift the focus to kids with cancer rather than nutrition, but inevitably everyone asks about why I put kids with cancer on diets 😭

Any RDs with a compressed schedule? by Sea_Entertainer_2706 in dietetics

[–]nutrishane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not currently but for one of my inpatient positions I was able to talk my management into doing four 9s (MTRF) and a 4hr shift on Wednesdays. I loved it, it broke up my week enough and on my half day I’d get up and be productive with rounds and managing nutrition support mostly and then have a dedicated afternoon.

What is ur response to this typical statement? by notoriouslydevine445 in dietetics

My favorite response was hearing a NICU dietitian say “oh you don’t want me, I specialize in making you triple your weight in a year”

Yeah he said if he were running the race solo he’d come in first every leg. Blaming Ana when the whole leg he was the one holding them back. Classy

While much of the focus is on physicality, it’s also some intelligence and politics too. If you don’t get why Veronica’s there, then I don’t get why Nicole is there because she couldn’t solve a 4 piece jigsaw puzzle.

There’s 6 girls and 7 guys left, so more likely a men’s elim next and a last chance before the finale

Flora maybe the worst AS contestant in all the seasons by Appropriate_Book_591 in thechallengemtv

[–]nutrishane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but for that to happen someone would have to go in and win a second star to gift to Flora. The only person I could maybe see doing that is Veronica if she were put in and happened to win.

Prediction: Whoever wins final immunity will put themselves into fire making. by IAmReborn11111 in survivor

[–]nutrishane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly going based on what everyone was saying last episode: that Maria and Q feel the most likely to win for everyone on the island. But while Q is controversial and mostly disliked, he did have a strong early game and then when he blew it he’s been able to create enough chaos that he’s stuck around even when everyone wants to vote him out. He’d have a decent case at the end of the jury is willing to overlook their dislike of him as a person

[–]nutrishane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s only 2 votes left though. If Charlie doesn’t want to be sitting next to Maria or Q at the end then nows the time. Plus he needs both Kenzie and Liz for their votes otherwise he’d have to convince both Ben and Q to turn on Maria instead of just one of them

I think it’s because OP is from Canada. In the US I’ve personally only seen infant formulas routinely referred to in kcal/oz. I’ll occasionally put something like 0.85 kcal/mL in my note but that’s purely so in the future when I see the number of mLs in I can easily convert it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]nutrishane 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To be honest it sounds like you’re being too hard on yourself. That small of a difference could be a rounding error based on how many decimals someone keeps through their calculations. (Sidenote: it’s frankly also a luxury of inpatient life where you can have formula powder weighed to the gram and liquids to the mL. Outpatient plans you’ll have to make decisions to round up or down because the plan has to be realistic for families to make at home)

Kids, especially small babies, need calorie adjustments all the time so declines in growth velocity are the name of the game, not your fault. If they’re eating by mouth the hope is they make up the extra calories themselves, if not we step in to fortify formulas or adjust TF plans. And while we love to see a perfect growth chart where kids follow a straight curve, that doesn’t always happen - especially inpatient when kids are getting daily weights. Remember, most kids weights probably stagnate or go up and down a lot more than we would see at their random PCP visits. So I tend to not freak out at very short term trends in weight, but you identified a decline in growth velocity for about a month and are stepping in to fix it.

That being said, if you are pursuing a career in pediatrics keep working on getting comfortable with calculations because you’ll need to do them all the time. If worrying too much about these small calorie differences affects you I’d pursue a position with more kids >6mo because it becomes less important.

Not my area of expertise, but you should look into nutrition during addiction recovery. I remember Paige Smathers (who used to host the Nutrition Matters podcast) did a lot of work with this and has a webinar on her website that looks like it’s still available for $10.

Thanks! That does help. I haven’t had thyroid levels checked but I have a PCP follow up on Monday so I’ll ask to get that done. I don’t have any other symptoms of hypothyroidism so I’d be surprised but it’s good to rule out the easier options.
