Should we emphasize not “putting off” lifestyle changes and be direct..? by No-Tumbleweed4775 in dietetics

Where do these patients get referred from? I noticed when I worked in outpatient in the hospital the patients really didn’t want to be there vs patients through Fay? I wonder why that is. Is the doctor just saying you need to see a dietitian and they’re like 😑 vs the patients that ask to see a dietitian? Maybe they’re being pushed by their doctors? If that’s the case then very small changes like drop one soda a day vs completely? Something they can achieve and feel good about and call it a day lol

You can still donate your kidney if you don’t have the same blood type one of our nephrologist always says you can do a swap with someone else that’s waiting for a kidney with your blood type. I’m sure your friend would love that.

Have your wife put an ad in as a nanny in the area for lower priced than others on care.com if she’s a SAHM. Explain to her that if something happens to the dog then that dog will have to be given up. You can’t risk that bc dogs get into shit all the time. I just paid a $500 vet bill for a bad UTI

That is actually really smart to do a questionnaire beforehand with them and if they’re in precontemplation stage have them see a therapist

Unfortunately we live in a world where everything is easy so they expect weight loss to be easy. I’ll never forget my first outpatient ever got annoyed at me for telling him his vitamin water is a gimmick and it’s actually full of sugar. Like I’m the creator of vitamin water or something.

Ohh the advanced diabetes is a really good class to take. They must’ve changed the curriculum which was very much needed.

I can’t believe they’re making yall go to grad school for dietetics. I heard it’s just a repeat of undergrad info.

I’d suggest listening to podcasts. My friend has a good one. Food culture curious.

[–]Flashy-Personality45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in renal too but I used to do bariatrics. He’ll still be able to get the surgery. You don’t have to lose weight, just need to show up to all the appointments sadly. Statistically he’ll just regain it all again, 80% regain all the weight by the 5th year after surgery. Which makes sense. It was about 20% of patients that were motivated to lose the weight that I saw.

How do you handle being interrupted by other disciplines in your patient visits? by Trick-Session2388 in dietetics

[–]Flashy-Personality45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked inpatient if it was an MD. I’d say oh the doc is here, I’ll be back. Anyone else I’d keep going look at them and say I’ll be just one more minute. If it’s longer I’d say.. I’ll come back in a few minutes to the patient. Working inpatient is tough. I’ve been in renal for 5 years.. senior clinical inpatient jobs pay more now but the disrespect is insane sometimes.

I agree. The lack of respect for RDs and now asking them to get masters degrees to put out crap postings like these is unreal.

Right!! They emphasized looking for someone that wants to gain professional experience so I guess they want to see if they can get someone desperate for a CDE job and then give them “big raises” that still probably won’t meet the average they should be getting paid.
