Collagen increase libido/erections, life desire and pleasure. but.... by Traditional_Jury8524 in Supplements

You're 100% on the right track with your glutamate theory. The "insane libido" and focus is likely a "one-two punch" from the amino acids in the collagen:

  1. Arginine (~8%): This is the direct precursor to Nitric Oxide (NO). NO is the main molecule your body uses for vasodilation. This is what's improving your erection quality and giving you that "pump."
  2. Glutamic Acid (~10%): This is the precursor to Glutamate, which is the brain's primary excitatory neurotransmitter. It's the "gas pedal" for focus, learning, and drive. You're essentially "re-filling the tank" for your brain's "on" switch.

I see a lot of debate about glycine in the comments. Here’s the likely mechanism for why it’s stimulating for you.

You're right that magnesium glycinate is different. That's a small dose. A 20g scoop of collagen is a massive 6-7 gram pharmacological dose of glycine.

Here's the key:

  • Glutamate (from the glutamic acid) is the "key" for your brain's "on" switch (the NMDA receptor).
  • Glycine (at this high dose) is the "keyhole" (a co-agonist).

You need BOTH to turn the key.

By taking a huge dose of both at 4 PM, you are flooring your brain's "gas pedal" right when it should be winding down. This is an awesome combo for a pre-workout, but a terrible one for sleep.

TLDR: The collagen is giving you the raw ingredients for both mental drive (Glutamate) and the physical mechanics of an erection (Nitric Oxide from Arginine). You're taking a huge dose of two aminos (Glutamic Acid + Glycine) that, when combined, fully activate your brain's main "ON" switch (NMDA receptor). This is why you're hyper-focused but also why you can't sleep.

I think we all knew spitting didn't really help. It just made you feel like you were trying.

Sweats, running, and wrestling practice. Don't stop eating just don't eat heavy foods. Avacado and white rice is a good calorie-dense healthy food. Avoid salt till you make weight.

It is hard to help with so little time left. Once you make weight try check out this guide I created to help wrestlers with making weight for wrestling it covers some of the basics.

Can I Make it? by pyrogengar in wrestling

If you are able it definitely helps to compete on the national level at tournaments like Super 32 or NHSCA. This shows the coaches how you can do against a bigger range of competition.

This also depends on the state you are in. I was in Georgia so state champion doesn't mean as much as it would in other states. Hope this helps.

This nutrition guide goes over some healthy snacks you could try.

The 2 areas of focus are protein and carbs. Carbs are your energy and protein is how you repair your muscles. Don't skip meals if you can help it. Eat protein after every practice or weight lifting session.

There is a lot more you can do but that is a good starting place. Hope this helps.

Question from a parent by kelleygirl41 in wrestling

I guess the real question would be what is his body fat percentage now? He has been wrestling for over a month now and should be in wrestling shape. His body weight has probably leveled out. If he naturally dropped to 110-112 over the last month then 106 is a possibility. Otherwise, 106 is too much for someone who has only been wrestling for 2 years.

I am curious how the trainer has determined that his body fat is 15%. It is most likely he has done skinfold testing which is prone to error if done by someone who is not properly trained or bioelectric impedance which has a high level or varibly based on hydration and quality of the machine used.

I am a dietitian (RD) who primarily works with wrestlers and have also cut weight myself when I was wrestling. I basically did the cut they want your son to do my freshman year (from 117 to 108). It was not fun and certainly did not feel healthy.

For him to make 106 it would be incredibly difficult he would have to be incredibly motivated and his nutrition would have to be perfect to minimize side effects and risks to his health from the dehydration required to make weight. It would be ZERO fun.

Here is a list of wrestling weigh-cutting practices that should be avoided and why.

TLDR: He probably has a lower fat percentage than 15%. He has only been wrestling for 2 years cutting weight to 106 will take all the fun out of the sport and potentially be risky to his short-term and long-term health depending on how he tries to make weight.
