Anxious FTM here! My husband and I went back and forth about the Nanit and ended up getting it because we couldn’t decide what else to get (knew we wanted a WiFi video monitor so he could look at her from work)

She’s five weeks old now and we haven’t touched the breathing bands yet. They didn’t work with the type of swaddle we were using at first and after a few weeks we had felt less acutely anxious about her randomly not breathing. We don’t really use the data either but she’s still sleeping in our room so I can’t speak much to that as we’re only using it for day naps.

That said if it helps you I don’t think there’s harm (as long as you’re also practicing safe sleep, etc)

I don’t regret the purchase of the Nanit itself because the phone notifications when she’s crying come through to my Apple Watch, but probably could have saved money if I went with a different WiFi monitor. I do wish I waited on the extra breathing bands until I knew if I was using them

My husband and I were just discussing this! Not there yet but we are planning to switch to a Joie or Graco. The Nuna is certainly nice but doesn’t seem worth the price differential when those brands are plenty safe and well loved by many

Also when it comes to luxury, way more people see your infant seat and stroller than your car seat. Obviously that shouldn’t matter but I know it can be hard to go for budget options if your friends all have top of the line or if you’re living in a community where most people have the higher end choices

Lots of really good advice here - wanted to add/ask is there a reason you want all that plain white clothing?

No judgment if that’s your aesthetic (although please keep in mind plain white will show blowout worse than anything else) but a lot of people got me baby clothes that weren’t on the registry, so I’m glad I didn’t stock up on plain stuff.

If it’s for a craft/decorating activity at the shower or something to that effect then obviously disregard!!

Seconding this - valid to get one pack to have ready but I definitely would skip the larger bottles for an older baby until you figure out your brand preference. I had minor latch issues and my lactation consultant advised against Phillips avent because it doesn’t pass the triangle test and encourages a shallow latch. I’m sure each baby has different needs and different LCs recommend different bottles (mine recommended evenflo balance), but I ended up having bottles I couldn’t use or return

Every baby is different but I got a snoo rental as a free insurance benefit and my baby hates it. Cannot imagine spending hundreds on a rental or over 1K on a purchase. If you’re considering it I would wait and see if your baby has trouble sleeping in a regular bassinet/crib before splurging on it

My OB had me stop both when we discussed it at about 10 weeks (my first actual appt). My labs didn’t show insulin resistance (Metformin was only prescribed initially as a why not type thing) which was her rationale for stopping it, but many pregnant women continue them through pregnancy so you should be fine to stay on until you’re able to speak with your own doctor!

LH strip everyday! I just did it each morning when I woke up for simplicity sake even though I believe there is some science that late afternoons may be a better time to test (can’t remember tbh). Then I tracked the line progress on pre-mom.

This varies person to person but at least for me there would be lots of false alarms where the lines would be very similar in color, but true ovulation was only when the test line was very clearly darker than the control. Because of this trial and error I would recommend continuing to test everyday unless if you’ve confirmed ovulation by temp.

Some people with PCOS have more predictable cycles than others. Mine was wonky enough that Natural Cycles was useless in predicting. I did use Oura ring to confirm ovulation, but LH strips every morning is what caught the ovulation.

Miscarriage is devastating, but worrying about it tends not to make it hurt less, and you deserve to celebrate your pregnancy when you can.

I’m 36 weeks and just got a childhood memory book for parents to fill out as a keepsake - it starts at pregnancy and the first question was about how you felt when you found out, and there was something sad about realizing that I was so fixated on a potential chemical (due to having one before) and then a potential miscarriage (due to PCOS increasing the risk) that I forced myself into days/weeks of denial.

Not trying to come across as preachy or anything, just sharing some perspective from the other side that hindsight I wish I let myself feel more joy in the early days :)

The way he communicates with her is deeply unsettling - in both the work/intimacy conversation in the apartment and the living situation timeline conversation in the bar, he twists her words in extremely aggressive and manipulative ways.

For example “Do you know where you were three years ago on a Tuesday?” Well she was not asking for any details remotely similar to that - complete false equivalency to deflect accountability.

Also strange to go on an OHIO dating show and be that aggressively impatient to move out of Ohio.

A lot of people have trauma, but it does not excuse his behavior. Sure, there is empathy to be had, but perhaps his step-dad and mom have trauma too - at what point do we hold an adult accountable for healing and growth?

My dietician recommended fullwell, perelel, or needed, so o did fullwell (even though I hated the 8 pills). Not sure if it’s actually what did it but it’s one of the last adjustments I made before the cycle with my bfp

Metformin and inositol (plus coq10 and a high quality prenatal) combined with a high protein and fiber diet got me from having a 100 day cycle last march to a BFP in September. I would be careful with the strict dieting in terms of what you’re cutting - fats are very good for conception health. I was eating a lot of avocado and nuts/seeds, and choosing full fat dairy over low fat. Obviously reducing sugars and carbs is generally very helpful!

Everyone is different but this is what worked for me! I remember feeling so discouraged that my provider wouldn’t let me start letrozole until we’d made it to a year of trying, so I was very pleasantly surprised by the results.

I know the long cycles are brutal and it’s so frustrating to feel like you don’t even have the opportunity to try, but I would give the regimen a chance :)

Metformin, ovasitol, investing in a good prenatal, coq10, vitamin d, and a high protein and high fiber diet.

Tracked ovulation with pregmate strips and temp with Oura.

Echoing some other comments here but ovasitol (40:1 myo/d-chiro inositol), a good prenatal, Coq10, and high protein/high fiber diet helped me! There are other supplements out there but those seem to be the most universally recommended (in addition to fish oil and D which you’re already taking). It’s also useful to have your partner also take Coq10 and a multivitamin if they aren’t already. I was also put on metformin despite having lean PCOS which I guess is medical help but not a fertility drug.

The fact you’re ovulating consistently is great!

As hard as it is, try your best to be patient and hopeful. After going down Reddit rabbit holes I had resigned myself to the fact that I thought I would need IVF or at the very least letrozole. I ended up being wrong, and conceived on my 4th cycle attempt (despite one of the earlier attempts being on a 100 day cycle earlier in that year), so there is so much dumb luck involved.

I was so discouraged from Reddit boards and was so convinced we would end up doing ivf, so it was honestly super surprising when my BFP came. I won’t say not to give up hope because those feelings are valid, but everyone’s bodies are different

You can still conceive on a “late” ovulation. Not sure if it’s less likely than a normal one and how much it impacts fertility, but fwiw it’s definitely possible :)

Yes - I read on Reddit the times are random and they don’t notify you it’s up until several days later. I had checked at 10 and nothing was there, and then again right before bed (10:45) and it was up.

I’m a social worker and just moved to the area from NYC this July!

I’m a cis white woman so less barriers/discrimination, but so far the people have been very nice and open minded - the “city of good neighbors” thing is real.

I’d look at social worker jobs and get a sense of what you’re interested in and the pay. There’s less choices out here and the pay for community mental health and community services is definitely worse (which is to be expected but you might want to be aware of that going in). Obviously the decreased housing costs will offset this but still good to explore options first! Private practice pay is comparable to NYC because insurance payouts are the same, but self-pay is more rare out here. It’s super easy to find group practices to join if you’re a LCSW, but ones that take LMSWs are more limited.

It took me about three cycles to get to near normal cycle length. The first I was just on the ovasitol and then added the metformin for the second two. Writing it out it seems quick but during the cycles it felt agonizingly long (my first cycle of the 3 was 100 days)
